We finally got our pin code for the middle of May. DH gets codes all the time but we are never able to go. We were already planning a SWW trip so I'm VERY excited for this pin.

ok, this will be my first time using a pin. Can I only use it through Disney or can I use a travel agent like Dreams Unlimited? Should I book as soon as possible? Is it possible that a better deal will come out or are pin codes usually the best deal?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm really excited.

The pin can be applied by yourself or a travel agent of your choice. I'd go ahead and book so that you at least know that you were able to get some sort of discount. Over the past few years, we've taken advantage of general public offers which included our May travel dates. I also received the % room only pin and applied it to our existing reservation. However, if something better comes out, I'll change the reservation again. Gotta save every penny that I can for our 2 week trip.

We got a pin in the mail today for discount room rates or the Disney dining plan. Unfortunately it's not valid at the Art of Animation resort which is where we were hoping to stay. Boo.

Thanks for posting! Those are the same dates that were included in my pin. Boy, do I wish that I could use them for our May dates. It would save us $2,000 since we are staying for two weeks.

My free dining pin says Jan 3 - March 5th!! The room only skips a week in March and April then is good for Aug and Sept too.

I know, I was hoping one of the two pins would be useful but I can't use the dining pin and I'll have to change hotels to use the room discount! Holding out for public discounts now I suppose.

We haven't seen any pin codes for May free dining. The free dining pin that I received went through March 5th.

Not a stupid question at all. I had no idea what pins were until several years ago. Pin codes are special offers that are randomly sent out by Disney's marketing department. They are supposed to be sent via email or snail mail. However, I know for a fact, that someone can have a pin code and never know it. It's happened to both my daughter and my mother.

In order to increase your chances of receiving a pin code, make sure that you are registered on the Disney site and ask that you receive notifications from them. Some believe that ordering the vacation planning DVD increases your chances. Having said all that, I have been registered on their site for many many years and have been to Disney 19 times and have received one, count 'em, one pin code over all those years.

I'd suggest that you keep an eye on the Disboards and on this thread. If anyone gets wind of an upcoming general public offer, they'll post it here.

Good answer, and just to make it (maybe) a bit easier to understand, pin stands for personal identification number, which is the special number assigned for you personally to claim that particular discount. You will get an email or a letter
