May 2013 Car Rental - Best deals?

Where do you input the codes and coupons when you go to Travelocity? Do you have to sign up for Travelocity first? I'm needing a minivan for 5 days at end of April/beginning of May and Enterprise and Alamo have me at $284 for the week before any coupons or codes and Budget costs $762 for the week before coupons and codes. This is my first time ever renting a vehicle so any help/advice anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

If your booking on Travelocity, rentalcodes.com puts the codes in automatically for you & there are links to any coupons you have to print. The only one I know of that is a travelocity exclusive is the Avis/Travelocity free double upgrade coupon, which there is a link to it. Have you seen others?
I like using travelocity to compare various sites, as you can play with coupon codes very easily & especially with Enterprise & Alamo because both their sites make it very difficult to change coupon codes.
The other option is to go directly to each car rental companies website and manually enter the coupons/codes.

Just booked with Alamo 4/29-5/7 for $164 including tax for a full size. I used code AD2338FDF which I believe is a visa code. Does anyone know if a Visa DEBIT CARD will be ok to pay with?

I still have Thrifty booked for $174, I'll hold on to both just incase.

Careful Alamo told me husband on the phone he could use his debit card. But when he got the the airport they told him no. Then proceeded to put up a sign on the counter that said no debits cards accepted. He ended up using his credit card. But you should be aware of this. But we still prefer Alamo.

Thanks for the warning!!! I did call and they said as long as I can show a return airline ticket I can use the debit card. It also states that in their policy. But I will be prepared just incase!!!

Trying to get a compact from 5/26-6/6 and so far the cheapest I can find is $417 through Dollar's City Special. I don't have a Costco membership (none around here), so does anyone recommend any ideas I can try? Expedia/Travelocity are giving me rates way over $450.

Yes, it can change hourly! Go ahead and book it for $289. It may continue to go down, you just have to periodically check everyday. I've already booked/rebooked/cancelled about 5 different reservations as prices were changing!

Can you rebook/cancel online or do you have to call? For example, if I see a better deal next week do I just make a new reservation or modify the current one?

You can do it all online. I've done it with both Dollar and Budget. You don't have to put in CC#. You will get an email with a confirmation #. When you find a better rate, book that one first and get your confirmation. then go back to the dollar home page and click "view,modify,cancel" under reservations. Put in the reservation # and your last name of the higher reservation, confirm and cancel. Easy peasy!

for some stupid reason I believe their club allows extra driver as do Costco coupons and I thought if extra driver was spouse u are covered.

I think if the the other driver is a spouse/domestic partner of the renter or companion of a renter with a disability they won't charge the extra driver fee. Otherwise it is $13/day

Thanks for this! We were able to nab an almost identical deal to the one we were using at Enterprise, but we usually rent from Budget. So we're more comfortable with them.

We are doing a land/sea trip. It is cheaper for me to pick up/drop off at the airport and rent for the entire than to rent for two days with this code! Now my question is how can I park for cheap? Would budget allow me to park at their lot while on our 3 day cruise? Is there any tips for cheap parking at the port?
