May 2012 Car Rentals

Got a 6 day Alamo rental for $110 for 6 days. May 5th - 11th. Used the Costco Coupon. Great deal. It was less than the American Airlines coupon. This was on a full size car.

I'm so jealous of everyone's rates. I'm flying into Sanford 5/12 - 5/17 and Alamo is $340 with the codes lovingthemouse used.

I tried the Costco codes for Sanford - no deal on those right now. For MCO, this is the lowest yet for the entire year. I've been watching since mid December, and they were running 250+. Enterprise fell to $150 a few weeks ago, and I was relieved. I'm glad to start seeing some movement with the Alamo rates - finally!

...keep trying... Have you tried Hotwire or Priceline? At this point in the game...it could happen for you... ??? I have friends who use Hotwire all the time, and get great deals and have had no problems. They aren't Costco members - and their rates are sometimes comparable or just a little more to what I'm paying via Costco rates....

I have a great deal for May 9-14 ($69) for a midsize through Alamo. Decided today I might want to extend my trip, but the rates are much higher now ($200+)!!:faint:

I was able to book a Dollar midsize for $117 with the extra day, but I hate to give up my fantastic rate at Alamo, I haven't had a deal like that in years. Phooey.

I wanted to update my last post - I was able to call the Alamo Insider's reservations line and add a day to my reservation. It caused it to go up from $69 to $81, but still a good deal!:thumbsup2

Did you try to modify your rental rather than check for a new one? Try modifying or calling to add more days.

Oops, did not see that you had already done that. That will teach me to read all the posts. :)

My rate hasn't budged all week. 235 for a van for 10 days with Alamo. I am ok with it but I am hoping to see it drop a little more. Just because it's fun to check and see it lower!

Which AA program should we join to get the coupon?

It looks like most here are traveling into MCO but we are going to THE LAND ;) in a few weeks! I just got an awesome deal using the Costco code (I am a member) and the AA coupon. I reserved a Jeep Grand Cherokee for 6 days for $129.31 at the Orange County airport!

Just rebooked my rental (mid size and full size SUV's were the cheapest) thru Costco. Reserved a Jeep Grand Cherokee for $117 for 6 days at SNA/Orange County!

Thanks for posting this, anyway! I wondered if I could modify online, but was afraid I would go too far and mess up the reservation I already had.:scared:

If you go to the "modify" page, change a date and click to the next page, will it still give you the opportunity to check things before you make the final choice? Since there were tabs for "go back" and "keep original" I was afraid to go on.

BTW - I'm using the AD2359FDF AA coupon. My DD, who will be with me (same address), has an AA FF number; do I need to get one, too, or will hers be sufficient?

pigletto - good luck, I hope you get your rate down even more!

Misskitty3 - fantastic rate!:thumbsup2

Less than 2 weeks before my trip to Syracuse and ALamo has not yet comedown. The best I have been able to get is $ 190. for 3 days on the Mini Van. I though the prices would drop as I get closer. :confused3

Looks like rates for my vacation (starting April 28th) are moving again. Just dropped 11 dollars.:cool1:

curious why would you want to book dollar over alamopopcorn::.

fyi re your other post, easy enough to obtain AA FF number. Over the years Alamo has only infrequently asked to see AAA & Entertainment cards, typically when we had a coupon and had to stop at kiosk.

I am reading to her post to say she needs to book Dollar to add an extra day because the Alamo rates are way higher and adding an extra day will mean she loses the previous rate.

Multiple times a day I check the rates of Dollar, National, Alamo and Car Rental Savers and so far nothing but ridiculous pricing!

I rented a car at the Sanford Alamo at the end of March for 4 days and my rate was $153 and I complained then that I didn't want to buy the car I just wanted to rent it. Little did I know that that was actually going to be a good deal.

If there are any other SFB renters who are getting better rates let me know. I have a Budget reservation for $191 and maybe a $25 coupon that I'm not sure will work with my code, but I've never used them before...

A fullsize with Alamo at SFB for your dates using Costco ID 7014627 and E-Coupon AD2359FDF for $35 off is $184 inc taxes.

Yes, it is as pigletto posted - I don't particularly want Dollar, but I thought I had to book a new reservation to get an extra day. Dollar was by far the cheapest. However, I was able to add the day for only $12 by calling Alamo's Insider CS, so will drop the res. with Dollar.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the info on the AA coupon. I will probably just go and sign up; I thought maybe DD's number would suffice, but it doesn't really matter. Easy to do, as you say.:flower3: I've never had to produce anything for our rentals in the past, but you never know when they'll ask.

ah ha, gotcha! I was thinking I must be missing something re the Dollar experience in MCO;). Our alamo and national experience on MCO aisles always have produced nice, clean, low mileage cars.

Yes, it will give you the opportunity to keep the new rate or keep the original one. It will show the original and the modified reservation side by side. Her AA FF will suffice.

we are arriving May 12th and staying through the 19th - I currently have a full size rental with Dollar for $137 (includes taxes). So far I have not been able to get a better rate with Alamo - for those who have rented with Dollar or Alamo - do I need to pay a little more for an Alamo rental? I have to have at least a fullsize car since the hubby is 6'7". Also, I see many of you are using the costco code with Alamo - do they check your member card when you use this? We do not have a Costco in our area so I am not sure how that works. Thanks!

It is a touch early for May rates. Join the Insiders club, it's free. You can use the coupon AD2359FDF with the Insider code. sometimes they check and sometimes they don't. If you are not a member, I would not take the chance. With Insiders you do get a free additional driver.

I'm not able to speak to whether one is better over the other :confused3 but,
I am using the AA/Travelocity code instead of the Costco...I believe it is the same amount off.

I did go to American Airlines and join so I have the card now:goodvibes
If you join Alamo you will also get the insiders discount 10%

Hope that helps!

Have you tried looking offsite around Sanford? When we thought we were flying into Lakeland it was much cheaper to go in to town to get a car than it was to get it directly from the airport since they pretty much have you captive at whatever price they want.
It is less convenient to take a taxi to the rental place but might save you quite a bit.

I tried both of these ideas & unfortunately I still can't beat Budget @$191 for 5 days. I found a $25 off coupon on their website (since I'm not a Costco member) but I used the Wendie special code & it states that coupons don't apply but it never hurts to try.

Ugh this is so frustrating. But I'm still hopeful & won't stop checking until my departing day.
