Hi Shelly - I stumbled on your TR just today and read the whole thing. I'm so glad you had a great time. I was particularly interested in your report because we are going back late next May and, depending on a lot of variables, will be staying at either WL, FW cabin, or POFQ. I know you said that POFQ was lacking something - some Disney magic somehow. Do you have any other thoughts about the resort? The size really appeals to me for this particular trip. How did you find the busses? Was it a big inconvenience to have to stop at POR each time? Any other words of wisdom?
Thanks!
Leslie
PS - You said you loved the Poly - it's where we have stayed the past two trips and it is just as wonderful as you think it is.
Hi Leslie!
Let's see. . . What can I say about POFQ??? If you are looking for small, then you are in the right place! You really can't be put in a bad building, they are all within a short distance of each other. The buses were for the most part very good. POFQ is always the first stop when boarding the bus at the resort, so you are pretty much guaranteed a seat. Then it will make 4 stops at POR. Which adds on about 10-15 minutes. After that you are at the parks in less than 10 minutes, except AK was a little farther. Once the bus filled up at POFQ in the morning so they didn't even stop at POR. Which was nice, well not for POR! Coming back from the parks POFQ is the first stop, so that is great. When coming back from DTD they go to all the POR stops first then to POFQ, which is not so great. The lines can get pretty long after fireworks at the parks, but we always ran out right after and caught the first bus. The one night we were at MK there was a seperate line for POFQ alone, so that was nice to not have to share.
As far as what it was lacking, I still haven't exactly put my finger on it. It was a combination of things I guess. The kids never got any towell animals, even though we tipped everyday. The rooms are a little gloomy, I think because of the dark wood on the dressers & headboards. And just the smallness of the whole resort. While it was convenient to be close to everything, there just wasn't anything to see there. At CBR there was a lake, and white sand beaches, and hammocks, and boats, and bridges. At night when CBR was all lit up it was just so beautiful. At POFQ there is a river and some street signs and that's about it. The food court is very small too and the service is very slow. We are a family that spends a good deal of time at the resort, so the food court was a disapointment.
Overall, we didn't hate the place. We just weren't that impressed. It was just the first time that something at Disney just didn't live up to all the hype for us! Some people just love the place. Others not so much. Actually there is a thread going on about it on the resorts boards. I think it is called something like- POFQ not what it used to be - You may want to check it out!
Thanks for reading my TR. I hope it helps! Have fun whatever you decide!!
