May 2, 2014 - A WONDERous trip through the Locks WBPC

Ok, I posted this on the FB WBPC thread too, but I just would like to extend the search out there...

We are bringing our 5 year old daughter and I KNOW I read somewhere (I think) that on the Wonder, we can get her a sort of mini - bippity bopity boutique type of treatment , but it was called something else for approx $69.

I thought I read that it was like make up and pixie dust in the hair type of treatment.

On the FB page I was told this may only happen on the Fantasy, but I am hopeful that the spa on the Wonder will have something that we can pamper our daughter with.

I've never disembarked a cruise ship here (it was a port stop on the Pixar cruises), but I do live here so while I can't give you taxi specifics, I can tell you some logistical things that could help.

The Port is right in the middle of downtown so I imagine there will be plenty of cabs in the area and even if by some weirdness they are not already lined up, they should be very close by. The main train station is across the street, I'm sure they have a spot in the very near vicinity for staging.

The airport is 2.3 miles down the same road that the port is on (N Harbor Dr). I'm sure they will be making circles back and forth all morning in a very small amount of time. It's about a 5 minute drive.

There's a video on the Port's main page of the Wonder sailing in for the first time in 2012. Port of San Diego
We were on this cruise and the lighting the early morning and at night as we were leaving was beautiful. There's a little of it at the beginning and end of the video.

Thank you for the info. It sounds like we shouldn't have a problem getting to the airport via cab.:goodvibes

....as I compulsively keep checking to see if my cabin has been assigned yet (and no, it hasn't).

Do any of you participate in the trivia challenges? I enjoy them if I can find a team to join and if it doesn't conflict with any events having a raffle. ;)

Did someone say participate in Trivia??? We are always open to having others join us for a good game of Trivia. Look for us on Jeff's website so you know who to look for when entering a Trivia game. Mr Muush is very good at Trivia. Me, not so much, but it is fun! We do it for fun, not to win. But we have quite a treasure trove of goodies from Trivia!

On Celebrity they do Progressive Trivia (same team over several games). I wish DCL would do those too!

I've definitely never seen a mention of this on our 3 cruises on the Wonder.

However, on last yr's wbpc they did have a night in the kids club where the boys went to one space and the girls to another. From looking at our pictures it was one of the formal or semi-formal nights. Counselors painted the girls' nails and put glittery makeup on them. My daughter was so excited to show me her 'makeover' when I came to pick her up that night!

Thank you for that. What lovely views of the Wonder. Seems like just walking out and catching a cab won't be too much of a problem. I did read that the immigration can be slow in San Diego so I hope they are kick that day. Goodness, I read a few didn't get away till 1pm:eek:

Ours haven't arrived yet. :(

Haven't gotten ours yet either, I'm anxiously waiting.

thanks for the feed back! I will try and be patient!!

Hi Flossbolna and All:cool1: I think the documents don't arrive in the USA until about 2 weeks before the cruise, if I remember right.:confused3 I can't really say for over seas delivery of Disney documents.:confused3 You can always call the cruise line and I am sure they will be able to provide you some information in the right direction.:drive: I sure do miss the days I spent in Germany during my Air Force years-really great times.:goodvibes

On my last cruise the documents arrived about 5 weeks before the cruise, definitely more than 2 weeks. So I am hopeful! And they do send them overseas - but in my case it will be my travel agent anyway who sends them on to me. :goodvibes

I am happy to hear that you have good memories of your time in Germany! I hear that so often from people who were stationed here. It is quite amazing how an event as horrible as WWII which caused the continued presence of the US military in Germany ended up creating so many positive memories for the Americans who lived in Germany due to that. :goodvibes

Thanks for posting that link!! Isn't she beautiful? Can't wait to see the ship again in person! :cool1:

Absolutely will look for you (and hopefully will be able to introduce myself at the Meet & Greet before then) - thank you so much! :goodvibes

Now if only I'd get my cabin assigned. TA sent me an email on Monday that I should get my docs directly from Disney by the end of next week at the latest. Hopefully, they'll go ahead and assign it for those, but I've heard of some instances when the docs arrived and still just said GTY. It's making me a bit crazy (being a planner), but well worth the savings.

Thank you for that information. We are really looking forward to all the different experiences on this cruise. It will be our 5th cruise and by far the longest on the Wonder.

I enjoy me some trivia!! If I can get away from the baby or when he sleeps, I try to make some of them. :woohoo:

I check them everyday! There are anywhere from 3 to 4 every time I check the inventory.

We are dreaming of upgrading at the port if they come down in price.

Yes, they do hold families of 5. Here is the pricing:

Pricing:
(2) Cruise Fare$13,710.00
(3) Cruise Fare$4,770.00 (children)
(5) Government Fees$1,079.00
*EST. TOTAL$19,559.00

Thanks for the info!

Wow that sounds like so much fun, my girls will love that!

Get ready, here they come. We got our docs today.:dancer:

Hi PirateBob:cool1:
I forgot that living in Florida does have its advantages in getting your cruise documents earlier than anyone else:thumbsup2. I feel soon, it will be in all our futures too:wizard:. Sorry about the 2 week thing and I hope I didn't freak out too many folks:laughing:. I hope that some of you are up for the gym and the rainforest, as well as the walking every day. It's going to be tuogh keeping to the routine, but with good support it can be achieved:dance3:. I am waiting by the door for my postman with my Pomeranian (attack trained of course) :rotfl2: for my documents to arrive. Hope everyone has their door magnets ready for inspections and as always carry on.:firefight

Hey everyone,

I've been finalizing with DCL regarding our tastings. It looks like the schedule is fairly close to what we asked for:

Martini - 5/4 2:00
Mixology 1 - 5/6 2:00
Mixology 2 - 5/7 2:00
Champagne - 5/11 12:00
Wine - 5/12 12:00
Tequila - 5/13 2:00

For Champagne and Wine, they couldn't give us the 2:00 I asked for and suggested noon. I'll see if we can go maybe 4, but I also didn't want to interfere with people getting ready for early dinner. Worst case, eat a late breakfast or early lunch and start your day right. We're on vacation, who cares what time it is. :cool1:

I still had a bunch of people who didn't give me guest names so Brad and I did some Facebook detective work and got almost all of them filled in. I hope you're all drinking with your spouses/SOs :)

As always, you can PM me or Facebook message Brad if you have any questions, but I think we're all taken care of and ready to go!

When it comes to the docs I don't get the excitement. There is nothing I need there but the luggage tags and in all reality I don't need those because the the porters have luggage tags. And who need sleep on vacation. Right here. I love my sleep.

I can't wait to get our cruise documents:banana::banana:

We've received lots through the years, but if it is a special cruise, like this one is, it makes it more of a reality. :cool1:

Fingers crossed we will get ours tomorrow! :goodvibes

We brought back several different types of tequila back with us from the Mexican Cruise as I collect different and unusual liqueurs. They always have something unusual in the duty free shop on board the ship and you can find some great deals during the cruise also:magnify:. When we lived in Florida we used to leave the ship with about 4 or so liters and yes we claimed it all:drinking1.

We've never bought alcohol overseas before. What is the process for "claiming it"? Are there extra fees we will need to pay? I would like to get some tequila but my hubby is a scotch drinker. I would really like to find a few good bottles for him at a reasonable price. Where can I research in advance of the cruise to figure out what is the average price and what a good price would be?

Get ready, here they come. We got our docs today.:dancer:

Were you IGT or OGT? Was your room assigned in your docs?

Thank you so much Diane. We are really excited for the events we signed up for Darren is planning to also do a whiskey tasting if they offer one this sailing.

I'm waiting for DCL to finalized/confirm but it still looks like May 10 in Diversions for the open bar event.

Wow that sounds like so much fun, my girls will love that!

Keep a close eye on the Navigators. The night this happened the activities were listed as "boys Chill in the Club" and "Girls Chill in the Lab" There was no mention of makeovers in the description.

The night we went to Palo, they had done very elaborate face painting in the Club. I arrived to pick my kids up after dinner to discover they had both chosen to be painted up in FULL face paint as tigers. I worked really hard at getting all that face paint off before they went to bed. Well, it was late. And it turns out that the martinis at Palo are deceptively strong. And this is why mid-way through breakfast the next day I finally figured out why my kids kind of looked like Oompa Loompas - they had a distinctive orange glow from all the leftover 'tiger' paint. :rotfl2:

I forgot that living in Florida does have its advantages in getting your cruise documents earlier than anyone else:thumbsup2.

Funny thing is on a couple of previous cruises I and others in the UK have had our docs before anyone else, Florida or anywhere. I am hoping it is the case for our next cruise after this one, the EBTA, but I think we will have left home before they arrive. Yes, as Alan said, only the luggage tags bother me. I know it doesn't matter and the porters have some but that is time wasting at the terminal when I want to get IN:rotfl2:!!!
