~~~ May 16, 2009 ~~~ Western Magic ~~~
Ok -- so, ummm, already feeling better about Yoni's job, ummm....went shopping this morning. :rolleyes1 I got to Kohl's power hours and bought Kai a new swimsuit and both some shorts. They were CHEAP and I had an additional 15% off!!! I also made it to the Disney store. They had the sunglasses and flip flops at 2 for $8 so Kai got lucky and got 1 of each in Wall-E for the cruise. He also scored a clearance Wall-E t-shirt. I got one of the big Mickey bags for $4 to use as a beach bag! Yeah, I know, I need to close my pocket book back up but ---welllllll, it was so much fun to SHOP!!!:dance3:
So, my house is a wreck and still need to go to HEB (our local grocery store). I hope you guys are having a good day!
I'm jealous! I had planned all week to go up to the mall in Knoxville and do some shopping, but didn't plan on the nail flaring yesterday :eek: . I'm able to walk and all, but I'm terrified someone is going to step on my foot! So, I'm thinking I'll have to wait until next weekend to shop. My parents suggested that I could go shopping if I took the time to start by buying some steel toe shoes :laughing: , but I just don't feel like buying something I'll never wear again! Plus, they aren't exactly cute and stylish!:rolleyes: By next week, I should be mostly healed anyway!
Have fun tonight! I'm thinking we'll be staying in since it's rainy and I don't feel like wearing normal shoes...
Val: Justin did the right thing by taking care of his toes early! I had one torn off as a kid, and it did hurt! I didn't have ingrowns, but rather some type of nail dystrophy that was making my toe swell and look almost like I had gout. The only way to solve the issue was to permanently remove it and since it was ugly anyway, I figured I'd better just bite the bullet and do it! (I haven't worn sandals in 2 years. I always wear water shoes and stuff to hide it, so losing it is kind of a blessing!)
I dug out my passport today...just to be on the safe side (after reading that post you mentioned)!
I'm posting this reminder because I would be freaking out in this situation, too. I haven't checked yet this morning (had to come here first!) to see what has happened overnight, but there were several posts from a frantic mom on the main cruise board about how she couldn't find her daughter's birth certificate, AND THEY'RE LEAVING ON SUNDAY!! Without it, they can't board the ship. :sad: So...here's a reminder for EVERYONE (me included) to FIND YOUR DOCUMENTATION (passport, bc, etc.) in plenty of time--like NOW--so you're not rushing last minute to find it!!! I even heard about a similar sitatuion on Gayle King's show on Oprah Radio on XM the other day when her son was leaving for a cruise the next day, and he called her because he couldn't find his passport. Gayle ended up having it at her house, and he was potentially going to miss the cruise, until her daughter decided to fly it to him at the last minute. Now I'm going to go to the main thread to find out what happend...
Thanks for the reminder!! :thumbsup2 A passport is OK isn't it? We dont need a birth certificate as well?
Congratulations to Yoni! I knwo that has to be a big relief for your family!:cool1:
I have an interesting situation and I'm curious if any of you have death with it... Due to a 2 year history of an abnormal toenail and lots of "flare-ups" over this time, I bit the bullet and decided to deal with it today. (Mostly because the redness was pretty impressive today and the pain woke me up from a very deep sleep this morning. AND I could get into my podiatry collegue's office easily today.... It helps to be a doctor who shares OR block time with a podiatry group...:) ) So I went in, talked to him, and decided that the only hope of me ever wearing sandals again was to remove the nail. Plus, it shouldn't be waking me up in the middle of the night anymore! I let him permanently remove the nail (ouch) today in the office.
So...here's my question. Have any of you ever dealt with putting a "fake" nail over the toenail bed and then snorkelling and stuff? :confused: I can deal with acrylic nail "stickers," but I'm worried that it may fall off during snorkelling and stuff... I guess I'll have to see if I can take some spares, otherwise I'll be missing a left great toenail...
.
:faint: Good lord!!! You are brave! :faint:
No help with your question I'm afraid, but just wanted to give you credit for your matter of fact attitude about it!! :thumbsup2 I would be making a heck of a fuss if it was me!
Hi Val -- I hope everything is ok? Get as much done now just in case....we want you well rested and healthy by the cruise!
So pleased about Yoni's job!! :goodvibes And a giant WOOHOO on the great shopping trip! :banana: I have promised myself not to buy anything else :lmao: We will see how long that lasts!
Oh, and isn't it the little touches that make Disney the best? Got a postcard from Mickey this morning welcoming us to next years cruise! Never got that when we booked this years. I was so excited!!!! So nice that they bothered to do it internationally!
I hear you! We went for our walk and then as we were planning how far to walk I noticed we could walk just a bit farther and I could check out a shoe store that I've had luck at in the past. I was able to find some black sandals that I can use for the evenings (now I just have to decide what I'm wearing - but it will coordinate with black). They were on sale, but still they were expensive. I've also started my hunt for a swimsuit and its a good thing that I'm starting now, because I'm not having any luck. In fact we just came home so Jim could take Brendan out to practice driving and I'm going to run to the mall to see if I can find anything.
Ok, so good news :dance3: , Yoni officially got the new job and starts on Monday! :banana: :banana: :banana: Not as "relieved" as I should be -- still think it will take some time to shake off the stress AND I don't think we will shake off the "thrify" bug anytime soon, but that is a good thing. ;) So, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers! :grouphug: You guys really are the BEST!!!!
:thumbsup2 HAKUNA MATATA:thumbsup2 Thats so great!!! Tell him congrats for us!! Rest assured girly, everything will work out for you two!;)
Sorry but no personal experience to speak from other than OUCH! Justin has lost each of his big toenails due to injuries (at different times), and I know he was in a lot of pain with those. Of course when they grew back, they became persistently ingrown, so he has had the sides permanently reduced--but not the entire nail. :scared: Better to get it taken care of now instead of right before the cruise! I'm having a procedure done in 2 weeks, and I'm scared I'm pushing it too close to cruise time to know the final result. Even though I've been trying to get it done since before our last cruise 2 years ago, I'm still pushing the timeframe on it. :sad2:
Ummmm....party was a bit too much fun :rolleyes1 . Yoni didn't go play poker, he was tired. He is going to play tonight. I have a friend coming over to enjoy some bubbly and watch a movie -- Vicky Christina Barcelona (I think that is the name). Should be fun.
So, my house is a wreck and still need to go to HEB (our local grocery store). I hope you guys are having a good day!
To much fun!!!:goodvibes You said the magic word again, 'bubbly"!!!;) I hope you guys have a great movie night! Have one for me;)
Hello everyone!!! im back!
Still counting the days till we set sail!!!:banana:
:welcome: BACK Andy!!! We've been wondering about you. Glad to see you back on the boards:)
Ok, it's 1am which is waaaaaaayyyyyyy past my bedtime, the movie was fun, the bubbly (prosecco to be exact) was excellent so life is good. So, imagine my shock, to find us on the 2nd page, with the last note from our wonderful beautiful Belinda?
Soooooooo, the only reason I am posting (and no, I am not drunk, just very very very tired) is to try to keep us on the first page. :)
Good night everyone!
hey all, sorry for not being so active. did we decide on the fe cut off date and how many total participants? I want to do my order soon!
Does anyone know if the shuttle launch has been delayed for sure or not? Im only asking because the hotel we are staying at is $100 a night, if there is no shuttle were going to stay at Daytona Beach (My fav place in the world)!!! and I can get a hotel for $60... Big savings for us!! :rotfl:
****GUYS CAN SKIP THIS SECTION!!!**** :laughing:
Thanks, chickies! :grouphug: It's just a minor procedure, but I'm a little scared about it because I talked my new (woman) doc into doing it in the office instead of at the surgery center under general anesthesia. :scared: My old doc apparently didn't think it was necessary, but obviously he doesn't have to put up with it himself. I won't bore everyone with the details (I'll spare any guys that are still reading...;) ), but I'm just hoping to get rid of something I've had since I was 12 that has always been a huge inconvenience to me, especially on the last cruise. Since we are done having kids, I no longer need it. (.) ;)
****OKAY FOR GUYS TO START READING NOW!!**** :thumbsup2
He informed me last night that he won't be working that Friday either :banana: I am still thinking we may be better off not hitting a park that day. I would love to go to DTD and enjoy the pools.....we also have reservations that Friday night at Il Mulino and for the kids at the kids club. You get 2 hours free per kid at the kids club and THEY FEED THE KIDS! That is $40 savings on the babysitting AND well, you know how expensive even kids can be to eat at WDW! I figured, they are paying us to go out to dinner! :rotfl:
Sounds like an excellent plan!!! (Unfortunately, no, I don't know how expensive the food is at WDW...)
Ummmm....party was a bit too much fun :rolleyes1
:thumbsup2
I need to go check the main thread too and see what happened!
I need to go check, too. I was gone all day yesterday (more on that later!), so I'm wondering how it turned out. I had been freaking out about not being able to find Hudson's old size 5 pants that he wore on the last cruise because I didn't want to have to buy more for Lennon, and I finally found them yesterday...right under my nose. I hope her BC was found just in time.
Ok -- so, ummm, already feeling better about Yoni's job, ummm....went shopping this morning. :rolleyes1
WTG on the sales at Kohls!! I was shopping all day yesterday, too. I went to the next city over (~45 min away) with my BFF and went to Target, Gap, Old Navy, etc. (I just don't udnerstand why a town only 2/3 the size of Grand Island has all the best stores... :sad2: At least we have Kohls, though!) I originally wanted to go because Gap had a 30% off coupon, and the boys only wear their jeans, so that's cheaper than I can get them on their regular "jean sale." :woohoo: So they're almost set for next school year. :banana: I'm 2 pairs short of getting enough for Lennon. (I bought everything they had in 6 slim & 8 slim but only the "cheap" color/wash style). I also got Hudson some khaki and black pants and a few shorts. Lennon will be wearing a lot of hand-me-downs for the cruise. I'm SOOO glad I found that box just an hour before I left! Otherwise, I was going to have to buy all new ones for him, too. Saved a bunch of money there!! Whew! I also got me a new pair of black slacks--on clearance, no less--since mine are just about a half inch too short (it's hard to find LOOOOOONNNNG lengths for me :sad2: ). I also got some plain white t-shirts for me and the boys so I can make the *~*~AWESOME~*~* transfer design that Cinda made! :worship:
Thanks for the reminder!! :thumbsup2 A passport is OK isn't it? We dont need a birth certificate as well?
She needed her DD's BC because she didn't have a passport for her. You'll be fine since you obviously have a passport for all your "over-the-pond" trips you've already made. Just to double check, though, you might want to make sure it doesn't expire within the six months following the cruise. If so, you'll need to renew it, i.e. if it's 9 1/2 years old by the time of the cruise, you'll need to renew it.
I hear you! We went for our walk and then as we were planning how far to walk I noticed we could walk just a bit farther and I could check out a shoe store that I've had luck at in the past. I was able to find some black sandals that I can use for the evenings (now I just have to decide what I'm wearing - but it will coordinate with black). Must've been a good time!! :goodvibes
Yeah, right. I know how BFF's can be! :lmao:
But now I know what you were talking about with pg 2 yesterday! :blush: I didn't get it because I always have a cruise thread window open and just refresh it or else go off my instant emails or else I have it in my favorites.
hey all, sorry for not being so active.
Good to see you pop in once in awhile!! :goodvibes
I'm really sorry........:sad1: I just usually refresh my page.:sad2:
Hope you had a good movie night!;)
Again, I'm sorry....:confused:
Hey guys,
DH and I have decided to add a few days on the end of our cruise and stay in Florida.:cool1: You know my first choice would be to spend those days in Disney but I have decided to compromise with DH and we will spend a couple days at Universal Studios/Island of Adventure. DH and I have never been to US/IOA and I am wondering if any of you have any touring recommendations. Is either park better than the other one for two adults? We are also going to spend Saturday afternoon/evening at DTD. I am very excited!!!!
Val, you'll do fine with the procedure! But... I would do it ASAP just so you are positively done with things/healing before the cruise! (That's precisely why I had the toenail done Friday, since it will take a few weeks to heal and feel normal again...whatever normal is without a nail!:confused: ) You may get lucky like me and get things done before a rainy, cruddy weather weekend! While I'm not enjoying my sore toe and found wearing normal shoes for 2 minutes VERY uncomfortable today (for church), I'm thankful the weather this weekend was nasty...at least I didn't miss anything good! I'm hoping to be fairly mended next weekend though so that I can shop!
V and Andy: Welcome back! :cheer2: Andy...I don't know about the shuttle launch, but keep in mind that while Daytona is cheaper for a hotel, you will then end up paying for parking at the port. The parking is about $105/week! If you stay at a port hotel with free parking, the hotel cost is minimal! Just something to keep in mind!
Mati: Who cares if you were drunk...you boosted us back up to the first page! Sounds like you had fun last night! :banana:
Shawan: Congrats on extending your stay! We like Islands of Adventure more than US, but both are good in their own ways. You can generally get a pass for both parks for a good deal. AND, if you stay in one of their hotels, you get free Front of the Line Passes! (We like Royal Pacific, but all are good!) I would love to do that, but I feel like we need to spend a day with my family in south Georgia. So, we'll be heading up there to visit and heading home on Sunday. That will give us Monday to recover, do laundry, etc...
I did our paperwork online last night and we both accounted for our passports, so we should be good to go! I told 2 folks on another cruise board last night about our group, so they may wonder over in the next few days. I did mention the FE deadline, so hopefully they will join. They both have children with similar ages to those already in the group!
We went to Universal in December 2008 and it was great, lots to do, great theming. I think you will like it and even more so since you are going to DTD - that is exactly what we did. Let me know if you have any questions about the rides, etc. Happy to help!
Hi Val -- still, yuck. anything to do with that kind of stuff -- not a fan of it, let's just say.... I am sure it will all go well!
I need to go check, too. I was gone all day yesterday (more on that later!), so I'm wondering how it turned out. I had been freaking out about not being able to find Hudson's old size 5 pants that he wore on the last cruise because I didn't want to have to buy more for Lennon, and I finally found them yesterday...right under my nose. I hope her BC was found just in time.
She found it in the laundry room -- can you believe that? How stressful was that for her? I went through old bins of hand me downs for Kai too. I think he is ok. Sabrina stretched this year but is too thin for a size 10 (eep) and the size (7/8) are kind of short so may let her go with shorty skorts/shorts for the cruise? She is so hard to shop for and to make matters worse, hates to shop -- so it is up to me to "guess" at the sizes and styles....
WTG on the sales at Kohls!! I was shopping all day yesterday, too. I went to the next city over (~45 min away) with my BFF and went to Target, Gap, Old Navy, etc. (I just don't udnerstand why a town only 2/3 the size of Grand Island has all the best stores... :sad2: At least we have Kohls, though!) Good job on the successful shopping! :thumbsup2 I need to get t-shirts. They are on sale this week at Target for the men. What color did you get? white?
You must be TAAAAAALLLLLLLL to need long lengths. I have long legs but am only 5'5'' and that is on a PROUD day! ;)
But now I know what you were talking about with pg 2 yesterday! :blush: I didn't get it because I always have a cruise thread window open and just refresh it or else go off my instant emails or else I have it in my favorites.
I need to do that too!
Again, I'm sorry....:confused:
Why are you sorry Belinda? If it weren't for you -- we would have probably been on page 4!!!! ;) I did have a good movie night.
Hi Shawan! That is a fun idea! Yoni and I stayed two nights at the Hard Rock Hotel our first time and went to Universal Studios. I don't think we made it to IOA but that was more for time. The only thing that was VERY cool back then (2004?) was that if you stayed at one of their hotels, your key acted as a FASTPASS on EVERY SINGLE RIDE! We zoomed through all of the lines and agreed -- it was 100% worth the extra $$ to stay on site. Again -- was pregnant and don't remember much -- but do remember it was fun.
I am struggling with something right now along the same lines. We arrive at in Orlando the night of the 14th and depart the 25th. That gives us all of Friday before the cruise (and now Yoni doesn't have to work -- woo hoo!), the Saturday after we get off the cruise and all day Sunday. Do you go to the parks all 3 days, spend one bumming around and only go to 2 parks? I am trying to plan and am a bit lost. If you have a choice -- is it better to go to DTD or a park? AAAAAAA -- decisions decisions decisions...... Any advice on how much time we will have after we arrive back in PC on Saturday? Can I plan on going to a park that day?
We are in the same boat, We fly out Sunday night. I am going to visit with some of my Disney Dream Job friends while we are there. BUT I looked up WDW schedule. This includes extra magic hours IF you stay on property!
Saturday
Epcot 9 AM-9PM
Magic Kingdom 9 AM -11PM
Animal Kingdom 9 AM-7PM
Disney Hollywood Studios 8 AM-9PM
Sunday
Epcot 8AM-9Am
Magic Kingdom 9AM-2AM !!!!!!
Animal Kingdom 9AM-7PM
Disney Hollywood Studios 9AM-9PM
So if you only have 2 days...you could run around to all 4 parks! I'm trying to convince my hubby to do that. But I'm leaving our last 2 days in FL up to him. It's going to be a surprise...(hopefully)!
So exciting that you are staying extra!!!
Thanks guys!!!!:thumbsup2 We are really looking forward to US/IOA because we both get to experience it for the first time together. Usually when we go to Disney I am telling DH all about certain rides because he has not been as many times as I have.
Probably not, if you mean covered parking. The Radisson lot is open, but well lit and gated (from what I remember in 2005). I guess I would suggest calling them to see if they have a parking deck for soft-tops, etc. Otherwise, you get the spend the night before in your favorite place! (I grew up going to Daytona beach quite a bit...my parents loved it!)
Also, according to NASA's website, the shuttle launch is still targetted for May 15! I would LOVE to see it, but I'm not going to get my hopes up as these things get cancelled all the time. However, there is still hope!
