~~~ May 16, 2009 ~~~ Western Magic ~~~
also, we'll be at the Radisson Friday afternoon, probably swim and hit Rusty's - if anyone wants to join us for dinner, feel free!! We are pretty laid back.
I feel bad - I have not been too active in the thread, so I better get busy.....!
misc2009024.jpg
Here's Abbey. She doesn't open her eyes much anymore since she's been blind for so long...:sad2: But, she's happy and that's what matters the most to us!
V: Congratulations on your promotion!:banana:
Mati: Adam is out of control with his computers! He has 3 desktops on one big desk, 2 laptops, and tons of "parts." These don't include the computer he donated to my office and his 3 printers... I can't decide if we should bring the computer or not, but I'm really worried about leaving my patients for 9 days without contact to check on things! We're already bringing our "games," our video camera with underwater case, our underwater camera, etc....so hopefully we won't bring too much more!
Sonya: Adam goes through 1/2 bottle of sunscreen each day we are in the water. He slimes himself up before leaving the room and reapplies the stuff constantly. He rarely burns at all because he's so diligent about it. However, I burn like a lobster! I bought a long-sleeved rash guard hoping this will help a little...but we'll see!
thanks guys - I am so excited!! Still with the hospital but moving out of Finance...been in this dept 7 years so time to move on!
I am working on my FE gifts....trouble is I want to do 3 or 4 things!!
anyone planning on ordering a basket from Shirley - The Perfect Gift?
Hi V! It is good to get a new job, especially after 7 years! I have been with my company for 13 and really needed the new position I got in November -- it kind of breathes new life into you!
As for baskets -- I called Shirley a couple of months ago about getting baskets for the kids and (more importantly) one for Yoni for his birthday (on the 21st while we are on the cruise) BUT she never phoned me back. I guess I should try again but got a bit frustrated that I never heard back. Was it because I called too soon?
Oh -- got my FE today!!!! :banana::banana:
Will work on posting pics, etc a bit later. I am having some trouble right now. Over the weekend I re-read Twilight and it was that addictive even the second time around. Well...thanks to Amanda....went and hunted down the Midnight Sun and have been reading that off and on all day! :scared1: Good thing I am a fast reader -- will post pics once that is done and the kitchen is cleaned.
probably too early - she is fantastic...I tend to not leave a message though and call til I get someone.
This cruise I think I am making them myself and lug them onboard...I usually spend $100-150 and I have tons of Disney princess things I have picked up. I hope to run to the cabin at 1:30 and set up before bringing the girls down - they have always had a basket so....but my mom and sis are first timers, would like to order them one.
Are all the guys wearing a tux?
Congrats on the new job!!!
Cinda - love the FE! Abby is adorable. As Jim is in computers at work we are loaded with them here at home. I don't even know if I know how many we actually have (lots of them he uses for parts). What we really need is a printer that we can network. The one that we have is really old and if I want something printed I have to email it to him or Brendan. We were checking them out this weekend so it would be really cool to get one soon. I haven't finished my FE because I need to print out the artwork to iron on but don't have the printer to do it (and don't want to try and do it at work).
We will be bringing one computer with us. Mostly to check online while at the parks and to be able to download photos and videos. I doubt that we will buy any internet access while on the cruise.
Well now that Jim could be reading this I can't tell you guys anything that I might be planning as a surprise....
Jim won't be wearing a tux. He has a sportcoat and dark pants for formal night and will do the sport coat with khaki's for semi-formal night.
For any of you repeat cruisers (don't know if I've asked this already) how often do people get upgraded at the port? I don't have much faith in us getting an upgrade (we used our DVC points to book the cruise) but I can cross my fingers.
Does anyone know how often the movies change on board? I wonder how far in advance we can find out what movies will be playing on our cruise.
J
Jane: Network printers are the BEST! I love ours! We have a Brother brand that we bought about 18 months ago. I can sit on my couch using my laptop and print whatever I need, which is really nice. I need to use it to print the rest of my FE gifts this coming weekend! I'm going to box the gifts up and mail them to the ship, as they take up a ton of room in my luggage (tried it...won't work)!
I broke down yesterday and bought another Landsend swimsuit as well as a pair of the Mary Jane Trekkers! I needed some new tennis shoes and I wanted something "lighter." I'm hoping the Trekkers will fit that description! Plus, I'd love to wear flipflops and sandals, but my toe isn't healing as well as I'd like. It's been 4 weeks and while it's not "open," it's still not healed. I figure I may have to wear closed-toe shoes if things don't improve over the next few weeks... I'm just praying they fit...
We'll be twins! I ordered the Mary Jane Trekkers, too! LOL! :rotfl:
I love Lands End!
Sorry to hear that your toe is still having problems, though.
Cinda -- LOVE the FE!!! It is soooo cute! Abbey is beautiful!
I think the only reason we would bring a laptop is to download pictures off of the memory card but am thinking they are so cheap now, it may make more sense to just buy an extra. I might take my blackberry and Yoni has his iphone so we won't be completely out of touch.
V -- thanks for the tip with Shirley. I would rather make them myself but it is unrealistic since we are flying in and going to WDW the day before. I have to give Shirley a call I guess and try again. I'll add it to the list for next week after MIL leaves.
As for the tux -- Yoni was going to buy a new suit but that has been put on the backburner. I am guessing he will wear his old slacks & blazer and I will buy him a new shirt & tie. I don't have a fancy dress -- just a "nice" one so don't think he needs to be that dressed up....although it would be fun and I have thought about it many many times....
Jane --We have a networked printer -- it is really really nice and worth every penny. It was easier to do when we got Vista (yes, something good about vista).
Cinda -- I ordered Mary Jane water shoes too! I hope the two swimsuits fit. We'll see -- the order already shipped so should find out by the end of the week!!!! I hope your toe starts to heal faster. It is a bummer to worry about something like that!
Ok...so here is our FE:
And picture of me and Yoni having brunch after flying into Vegas (yes, I do have a glass of BUBBLY!) :thumbsup2:
And finally, a picture of the dark chocolate tart that Yoni bought me on Sunday. We had split a bottle of wine in the room and enjoyed it with a couple of slices of pizza. I got tipsy and begged him to go buy me some dark chocolate and he more than came through! It was FABULOUS!!!!
LasVegasTart.jpg
It is so funny how I have Yoni into taking pictures of the food now! It was his idea to take a picture of the tart!!!
Alright -- still beat from Vegas but before I forget -- Val, here are all of the Dis'ers linked up for the 6:00 dinner:
Faith&Hope
Texfinn
Mother_Hen
Noodlesmom
Hudson5&Lennon3 (x2)
Tinkattude6 (x2)
lillygator (x2)
Off to bed! Have a good night everyone!!!!
I have not been very active either. As time gets closer, I am sure I will jump in more often.
I was wondering if anyone wanted to recap meeting times, etc.
That doesn't sound like her. She is very active on cruise critic boards. I have "spoken" with her many times. I would try again. She is a very pleasant lady.
I just thought I would pop in and let you that I have not fallen off the end of the earth. I have lots to catch up on. I have missed you guys.
HEY, FYI - for you and anyone else who needs it...............
we are here in FL, and we are more than willing to carry over whatever anyone needs!
cases if water here are $4.99 and while the DIS may say different, we pack them and check them with the luggage with no issues on any of our cruises, we would love to send all you guys water if you can pm me your cabin #.
as far as the baskets...I can pick up whatever you or anyone needs here in Fl. I don't mind at all and usualy get a deal, so let me know.
OK, big news for me - I have a new job! It's with my same company - but a promotion to another department! I am thrilled!!
WTG!! :thumbsup2
Since the shuttle won't be happening, we're completely open on Friday now. We were just going to see what's close to the Radisson for supper.
LOVE IT!! :yay:
Here's Abbey. She doesn't open her eyes much anymore since she's been blind for so long...:sad2: But, she's happy and that's what matters the most to us!
What a cutie!! Glad she's still a happy puppy even with her disability.
Are all the guys wearing a tux?
Not mine. Just a suit.
For any of you repeat cruisers (don't know if I've asked this already) how often do people get upgraded at the port?
Not sure. I don't remember hearing on my last cruise meet thread that anyone got upgraded. I do know when we were checking in (shortly after 10 AM) that there was someone going around telling the check-in CM's that no upgrades were available.
I wonder how far in advance we can find out what movies will be playing on our cruise.
Maybe a month ahead? Not sure. :confused3 I do remember calling last time, but I think it was a little closer. I wonder, too, how often they change the lineup.
I'm going to box the gifts up and mail them to the ship, as they take up a ton of room in my luggage (tried it...won't work)!
Hmmmm...I might have to do this, too. We'll see how much room I have. I might need that much room to bring home souvies, though!!
my toe isn't healing as well as I'd like. It's been 4 weeks and while it's not "open," it's still not healed.
:( That's too bad. Hope it gets better before the cruise.
LOVE YOURS, TOO!! :yay:
Boy, mine is going to be so cheesy. I'm not even sure what it'll be yet, but don't expect it to be much! :laughing:
What a GREAT PIC!!! :thumbsup2
OMG!!! DID YOU SAVE ANY FOR ME?!?! :rotfl2: Is it really as big as it looks?!?! Was it really as good as it looks?!?! Oops! I'm drooling!
It is so funny how I have Yoni into taking pictures of the food now! It was his idea to take a picture of the tart!!!
Well, he had an EXCELLENT idea!! Justin was getting into the food pix on our last cruise, too!
Val, here are all of the Dis'ers linked up for the 6:00 dinner:
THANKS!! I put them up on post #2, so if the early "without kids" group and the late group wants me to put theirs up, too, I put up a spot for them, too. Just let me know who they are!
I just thought I would pop in and let you that I have not fallen off the end of the earth. I have lots to catch up on. I have missed you guys.
Jamie!!!! Glad you're back!!!! We've missed you!! :grouphug: Where have you been?!?!
Darn Idol ran long!!!! My Tivo didn't get ANY of Adam's performance!! Snap! I ended up having to watch it on my Los Angeles station at 11:00 just to see it. Glad I did, though!! Has anyone not watched it yet? I'm dying to "discuss!" :happytv:
Congrats on the promotion LilyGator.... thats awesome... celebration time!!:cool1::woohoo:
I love both of the FE's.. they are so cute...
Val - cute pics... seems like lots of fun...
Love all of the new pics...
I guess we will be quadruplets because I ordered the mary jane shoes too... they were 25% off yesterday plus free shipping... I could not resist... :yay:
Ok...so here is our FE:
Glad to have you back!!!!
DH is going to wear his black suit...no tux
Hi everyone,
Just a quick question that I am sure has been asked, but is anyone considering the wine package?
My DH is more of a beer guy and I would also like to imbibe in tropical drinks....but I love wine!!! do you think it is worth it? I saw a few not so bad wines on the classic list but I am still on the fence.. any opinions????
I've heard that the 7 day is a LOT of wine and that most people wind up with a few bottles to take home. I'm not going to do it because 1) it's not in my budget and 2) I want a little more flexibility in choosing my drinks. If I got the wine package I'd feel obligated to drink the wine at every meal, regardless of what the drink of the day was or what type of meal I got. That being said, if they allow me to do a 3 bottle package on the 7 day I might actually go for that.
I checked my ressie today. No stateroom assignment. I also checked the May 9th cruise board and no one has mentioned getting theirs yet. Bummer.
BTW, the May 9th cruise board was congratulating themselves on having almost 100 pages which is more than the May 2nd cruise has. I almost felt like chiming in saying look at the almost 200 pages of ours!
Kristin -- I think we decided to buy the wine package. I read on the board that you could ask for wine in your room so we may go that route. Yoni and I love to have a glass of wine sitting on the verandah before dinner. Worst case is we have extra but knowing us -- I doubt it. We do love our tropical drinks but that usually gets me in trouble with the calories and well, they just go down so darn easy!
I think the fact that we could each get a bottle (me white, him red) with dinner and they store the rest for us for the next day helps. I don't think I could do it if I were the only one drinking wine.
The prices are actually very good. One of our favorites (Santa Margharita Pino Grigio) is normally @$20 at the local bargain grocery store. That is one of the wines in the lower package so we are leaning towards that way. I think the package comes out to @30 a bottle so compared to what the Pinot Grigio would cost at the market, it isn't bad -- normally it would be at least double. Now, that being said, I normally drink $6 wine :rotfl: so this is a big step up for us but, well, hey, we are on vacation right?
I think the only alcohol we'll take with us on the boat are a small bottle of rum and small bottles of baileys. I'll keep my receipts just in case we don't open them so we can bring them back.
Jamie -- glad to hear you are back. I'll have Sabrina write Jalen tonight.
Kym -- Sabrina wrote Faith last night. It was hilarious. She got the giggles and well, most of it was pretty silly. I typed for her becasue I lost patience and wanted my laptop back!
V -- THANK YOU for your offer! I was planning on buying a case of bottled water in KW. If that isn't a good plan and you can help out, that would be GREAT! You are sooooo sweet! I may have you help me out with Yoni's basket too if you don't mind. Ahhhhhh -- too much to think about! Ok, MIL better leave fast (and taxes get done!) so I can start to focus on what is important -- THE CRUISE!!!!!
Tammy -- totally love the fact that we are posting more than the other cruise threads. Just goes to show -- I picked the right week to cruise!!!!
Have I told y'all how wonderful you all are??? :grouphug: I can't wait to meet everyone!
Have a good day!
