Hey there, I have often wondered about geocaching, but never followed through with auctually doing it. I don't have a GPS or even a compass. :confused3 I do have a strong sense of curiousity. May I follow you while you search, just to get a feel for what's involved. I promise not to divulge any secret society rules/hints/tricks/methods/locations/etc.;)
Thanks
Pam
P.S. Biking or walking is okay either way.

the precursor to geo caching was called letterboxing, if you want to try it without a GPS sometime, just do a search for it on google or whomever

Hi Tamsocal,
I just wanted to let you know that we have made other arrangements for Gibraltar and won't be joining your excursion. Thank you so much for all your hard work, though, I've made arrangements on other cruises and I know it takes alot of time and effort.

We're still sailing with you. It's been crazy busy like always the last month before evaluations.

We haven't started packing, have no idea what we're doing in ports, how we're getting to the airport after the cruise. I've never been so unprepared for a trip before. :scared1:

All I know is that we're staying at Kidani the day before, going to MK, then to Amsterdam after the cruise.

I really admire all you organized people. I have a lot to do in the next week.

Hi Jackie51- no worries- glad you made your arrangements. and the few extra emails have been no problem at all- EXCEPT I had a busy day of work yesterday & could not do any follow up, and then was gone from my house for almost 24hrs since my girlfriend was having issues with preterm labor.

I will follow up with the tour company today and will confirm the max # of people we can make arrangements for & will still post the final details once I hear back from him-- I think with current interested we should still be fine.

Thank you for the info! Yeah, we weren't finding too much info on Gibraltar either. I emailed one company 3 times without a response. Another company was charging an outrageous amount. So we're just keeping our options open and seeing what we can come up with. We might wait until we get there since I've heard there will be taxis waiting to give the "official" Gibraltar Rock Tour that seem to charge a reasonable amount.

We have 3 in our party and we may be interested. Right now I can't get ahold of one of us :)

Would this include a guided tour of the tunnels? I want to learn more about the history of them. When do you need to know?

Thanks

If you have 2 spots I am interested!

Any room for a family of FOUR????

My husband and I would be interested in joining you on the Gibraltar excursion. Do you still have room?

I could have spent a few hours exploring the caves. There are more miles of caves and tunnels in the rock than miles of roads in Gibraltar. Lots of exploring to do and see the inner workings of the rock and the history behind it beyond the 30 minutes they normally give on the tour. For the right price, I'm sure they will extend the tour times.

awesome awesome awesome, thanks for doing all this!:banana::banana:

(I am with Missy who has already been PMing with you)

Tam.. do you have room for 4 adults... I think we might like to do this one too....

We would be interested too...2 adults 1 child

Hi everyone, I ended up talking to the guide by phone so I typed up what he verbally communicated to me: I have emailed the info below to him- so he will confirm everything I typed up is correct tomorrow

thank you for your interest in Gibraltar tours. We will be sure to make
your visit to Gibraltar an enjoyable day. We have been in business for 14years and work with Travel agents throughout Europe to ensure that our guests have a wonderful time & tour in Gibraltar.
The Extended tour option you have
requested consists of several stops. Which includes visiting Pillars of
Hercules, St. Michael’s Cave, Highest Point (I guess they are the only company or one of limited companies that has military clearance to go to this point), the Top of the Rock, the Apes, the Great Siege Tunnels and Moorish Castle. We will also drive to Europa Point. There are spectacular views at Europa Point. Weather permitting you can have views of Africa and see 2 other Countries, two Continents, the Atlantic and the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. You will be escorted at each of the stops by our qualified driver/guide. Your guide will provide you with historical narration/commentary throughout your tour. Each of the vans have A/C. The price of the tour is inclusive of all entrance fees. These tours require minimal walking since your guide/driver will drive you from each destination. You then choose how much walking you do at each stop.
Of course the plans might need to change dependent on traffic and delay at each stop (and these plans can be customized to each van), below are the recommended/approximate/estimated time at each of the destinations:

I didn't get all of these perfect-- my little twins started going nuts- and I missed writing down some of the times-- but all together we will get 3- 3.5hrs to spend on tour and if we want an hour in the tunnel- we need to be quicker taking pics somewhere, etc )
Pillars of Hercules 10 minutes
 St. Michael's Cave: 25 minutes
 Highest Point ? minutes
 100 ton gun XX minutes (I forgot to clarify if we go here- he should let me know tomorrow- but I think this is the same place as where highest point is)
 the Top of the Rock with Barbary Apes 15 minutes
 the Great Siege Tunnels 30 minutes
 Moorish Castle 15 minutes
 Lighthouse & Europa Point 15 minutes
 Gibraltar a City Under Seige Exhibition XX minutes

The tour will begin at the port where Disney cruiseline will dock. You will meet us at XXXX location on May 25th @ 8:15am (he still needs to provide this info tomorrow to me)
At the conclusion of the tour you will be dropped off at XXX location (I think each van can be dropped off at a choice of 2 destination—either downtown or the port, when you confirm with me you want to go- let me know where you think you might want to be dropped off- I think they will be flexible- just probably not want to drop off 8 people 8 different places )

Cost: $30Sterling Pounds/pp ** this is different – I thought it was Euros- I think it increases cost by $3 US he would like payment in SP or E, but I wasn’t clear if he would refuse US or conversion rate would just not be as optimal- he can clarify this as well in my email tomorrow)
Tour Duration: 3-3.5 hours

Finally.... he said for those that want extended times in some places & want to shorten the trip or eliminate some stops- he said this can easily be done as long as all in the van agree- and you only need to work with the 8 in your van-- the vans do not have to stay together- so you can customize the 3 to 3.5hr tour to meet your desires--

Please let me know if you want any additional information and if you definitely want to come along. He said he has no maximum #, we just need to let him know how many & he will get us taken care of!:cool1:

If you respond to this thread or PM that you want to go- please let me know how many in your party, your cabin # (if it isn't already on the spreadsheet- just in case there are last minute updates that I need to communicate to anyone) and where you would prefer to be dropped off after the tour

the tour might need to start at 8am-- he is going to confirm in the am with me

and for any veteran DCL cruisers- see below :)
would it be better for all of us to meet in the ship somewhere & then exit out together to where he tells us? if so where should we meet?--

No worries. It will all come together. You have 6 days to figure out what you want to do. I would just take a taxi to the airport.

ATTENTION: To help make it easier to find each other for dancing, drinks, karaoke, chatting each evening... for those interested, meet in the promenade lounge at 10pm each evening to join others.

Greetings, I just emailed you
we are 2, cabin 6604
8am will kill me but the mother will get me up! I would like a downtown drop off but the mother may want to go back to the ship, she has bad knees but does not knoe how to slow down but she may crash after the tour! just let me know.

I just looked at the satellite and it looks like it is on the bike path near Serenity Bay. The cache page recommends biking.

Anyone who would like to join us to find the cache: We will meet up at 9:00am at the Promonade Lounge. We'll get off the ship together and rent bikes to get to the cache.

Here is a link to the cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=be75fd23-9bed-452c-8aed-6226154cc0f8

Wondering what geocaching is? Look here: http://www.geocaching.com/

My DH and DS are parasailing at 9. DO you think I could meet you and hand you a travel bug or geocoin to drop off for us when you find the cache?

I know- but when we cruised the Med last year, it was like I was an invading general. Had plans, maps (still got lost in Rome), schematics of the museums we were visiting. This time, nothing.

I think we might just grab a taxi at the port because it's cheaper than the car services, but like the idea that a car is waiting.

Cadiz/Seville is at least sorted out. And Barcelona, since we've been there before.
