May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

Any room for a family of FOUR????

I think so, the other group was a maybe, and there was no minimum-- so I/they can always arrange for a 2nd van if they decide they want to go that want to share a van. I will email the company & see if we can confirm -- is your group of 4, all adults? I will look on the spreadsheet to see if you are listed....might be able to answer my own question :)

are you ok with an 8 or 8:30 pick up for 3 hrs?

We have booked a Madeira tour outside of Disney too. It was also customized :) So happy!!! Thanks for your help!

If you have 2 spots I am interested!

ok- I was reading emails backwards-- it looks like we have 13 people interested (me 4 + 3 +2 +4)
I will wait to see the responses I get from the companies I emaild earlier today, regarding are the tours guided, will the prices be the same, are entrance fees to the places included, etc-- so we can pick the best option

can anyone who is definitely interested please PM me with your email address & I can cc you on the info from the tour company so you can make a definite decision-- so far none of the companies have asked for a deposit.

can't believe we leave next week:banana::banana::banana:

So close now. And DVC called to tell me they upgraded our bon voyage villa to a 2 bedroom Magic Kingdom view the night before. Great send off from the vacation club.

Will there be a final listing of all the DIS events? This is the first time I am taking part in the DIS gatherings and fun and want to make the most of it.

I figured with 14 days with everyone, we might as well make some great friends.

Pirate costumes are cleaned and ready. The Dream crew (Cruise Director Rachel especially) and guests loved them. If only I could get the thread to let me upload it since I don't have a direct link.

How exciting & what an excellent start to your trip. Have fun and we will see you next week!

Hello, our name on the geocaching site is emptybook. I was really looking forward to finding some geocaches on our last cruise but lost our gps just before we sailed. Would you want to me up and search for a couple together at port?

I have never been before but my friends love to. I wonder if an iPhone GPS works without needing a cell network connection. If I can shut it off and still use the GPS i would love to find the one on castaway.

You will need a network connection I believe to use the GPS function, but if you want we could try to meet up to have a find. Here is the link to the cache on Castaway Cay:

It sounds like it is off of the bike trail, which my fiance (or husband at that point :lovestruc) and I will be biking in the morning (before it gets too warm).

another company I just found- we can customize the tour and for $310 US for 3 hours-- so that would be $39/pp-- so better price & a bit longer if anyone is interested. there is only space for 8 persons- so only 4 spaces available
here are details
Extended Rock Tour (Minimum 3 hours) – 6 stops – includes 100 Ton Gun, the lighthouse and Europa Point, St. Michael’s Cave, Top of the Rock with the Barbary Apes, the Great Siege Tunnels and the Moorish Castle.

What company is this one?

We have decided to do the Dolphin watching excursion on our own. I dont mind spending a few extra $$ for ship excursions but this one on our own saves us about $200 (disney is charging us for the toddlers & they are free when booking on our own (plus each of the fares are less)......

We have arranged for a private tour in the morning up the rock to the caves, Apes, tunnels, castle, etc & it is $25E each- we have 4 sspaces open in the tour van & wondering if anyone is interested in booking as well. We dont have to fill the spaces & they might already be taken by the time I email the company back but just wondering if anyone else on the roll call might be interested in coming along with us.

My husband and I would be interested in joining you on the Gibraltar excursion. Do you still have room?

Hi Jackie-- yes I think we are now at 17(if everyone still wants to go)-- so one van of 8 and one van of 7-- so all we have is room for one more. If you PM me with your email address- I will send you the info I have rec'd. I have rec'd email back form the original company I had made arrangements & he said that the driver/guide will narrate/guide at the attractions. I just need to confirm the price as his original quote was for the 1.5hrs and to do the castle as well we need a little more time, he agreed to it- but he did not confirm when I sent ? about adding the castle that the price would stay the same or increase-- I just want to make sure :)

What company is this one?

it is this one-- but thus far they have been non responsive with my emails

http://gibraltarrocktours.com/tours.html--

I have sent te info about this tour to the person that has been emailing me back & forth form the 1st company to let him know that the longer tour might be of interest to some to see if he will do it at same price

I just now need to know from everyone that is interested if we want 1.5hr, 2hr or 3hr trip-- will post back once I get final price-- and I am sure it will work out if some want longer or shorter as one van can do one tour & the other one can do something different

I added international networking and text messaging to my I phone when we cruised to SouthAMerica & Antarctica recently- the total amounts were about $20 (it was not unlimited internet but enough for my use & texts I think were a total of 50- can't recall) we are going to do the same thing I think again-- just no phone cel service. I forwarded my phone calls to my home # so it would not ring the entire trip- as I was told once the international cel tower picks up the call- there would be a charge - regardless if I answered or not

Good Morning,

My husband and I will be on the B2B and are excited to experience our first Transatlantic cruise. We have been on a Med cruise in the past but will visit new ports with Disney.

I did put our information on the spreadsheet although I know we are too late to participate in many of the activities. We will be at AKL for 3 nights before the cruise.

welcome!! there are several on the board that are doing the B2B (not us-- 7yr old has to get back to school ;)

Thank you for the info! Yeah, we weren't finding too much info on Gibraltar either. I emailed one company 3 times without a response. Another company was charging an outrageous amount. So we're just keeping our options open and seeing what we can come up with. We might wait until we get there since I've heard there will be taxis waiting to give the "official" Gibraltar Rock Tour that seem to charge a reasonable amount.

DiscoverGibraltar dot com has alot of information on gibraltar and can help explain what some of the different sites are if you have the time to explore it. They also have information on the taxi tours, they do mention sometimes they are hard to get if you do not prebook them, not sure how true that is or if they just want you to prebook them.

welcome aboard! Please do come to some of the things like the DIS meet for sure! And I imagine some things you could still get squeezed in for. :)

my thoughts too- had leaned towards jut getting off the ship and finding someone- but decided to just prebook just in case after reading May starts getting a little busier. We want to relax not make a mad dash for finding a tour

hi Barbara and Larry
welcome from David and Adele:yay:

I am a bit of a news junkie (real news - major world events, politics, financial markets, etc. - no Hollywood garbage please). Since we will be at sea for a week with no port stops, how up-to-date will the news be on the ship? Do they publish mini newspapers based on info from satellite feeds? I like to keep up with what's going on in the world. :surfweb:

Thank you for the warm welcome from so many fellow cruisers.

I rechecked my cruise documents and noticed that I had made a mistake with our cabin number. We are actually in 7072 for the B2B cruises. I have corrected the spreadsheet. I'm sorry for the confusion.

Last year we were planning to do one of the Baltic cruises but had to cancel when my mother-in-law passed away unexpectedly.

We have our fingers crossed that Disney will return to the Baltic in 2013. We were hoping for 2012 but have booked the Hawaii cruise as a substitute. This will be our first trip to Hawaii and we know it will be a great experience.

We have never been on a Transatlantic cruise and your enthusiasm is contagious.

Barbara

Barbara, I believe there is a few others in our group that are also on the Hawaii cruise. It will be nice you can meet up on this cruise first. :)
