May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

Congratulations to everyone on their upgrades. Hopefully there will be some left at the port for us.

We're really pushing to get the school work done before the cruise. It seems that the one not coming is doing better than his older sister who is coming. Maybe I should take him instead. ;) This, plus college visits and activities for four has kept way too busy to keep up. I'm so unprepared for this cruise.

Best wishes on getting everything squared away before the cruise...just over a month away! Luckily, not much to prepare for, this cruise will take care of itself with all of those sea days. Throw a red top into the luggage for everyone (if they have them), there is a RED day planned for our 2nd seaday.

I know what you mean about wondering if there will be anything left to upgrade to at the port. I've already decided that they will not have any connecting 9b's left for me to upgrade to, so I'm going to be happy with my little portholes. This frees me up to relax and not worry about trying. I want my vacation to begin once my plane lands, I don't want to wait for once I'm on the ship. Wish me luck in this!

Looking forward to meeting you and your clan onboard :goodvibes

we went up to 11A had hope for a 10, but got deck 6 mid ship so location is good I think, deck 2 had me concerned with the deck 3 clubs etc.

reviews for this area say elevators are hard to get into, so will be walking stairs up or down 3 decks on the regular, so will help with the cruise weight add on

Sounds like a good location. Close to laundry, but not too close. Stairs are my friend too :thumbsup2

You know, I was thinking about this just the other day. We usually tip $1/item ordered. However, I was wondering if we wouldn't be better off tipping Euros rather than Dollars for this particular cruise. I assume the crew can change money on the ship, but wondered if European currency might not be better for them in the short term, since they'll be in Europe for the summer. :)

Amanda

That is a great idea! Euros are worth more than the USD now, so it would be a better tip in most cases. I was just in Europe a few weeks ago so I have a coin purse full of coins and now I know what to do with them! Thanks!

Thats why i like NCL really i don't want to eat with the same ppl for 14 nights not much to talk about after a night or 2

My aunt and uncle took a long cruise several years ago with assigned seating and to make dinner conversation interesting they had the following rule: no one talks about their jobs. 1. You are on vacation so why think about work anyway? 2. Without the old standby of "What do you do?" it forced everyone to talk about a lot more interesting things. On the last night of the cruise they all told each other what they did and hardly anyone guessed the other occupations correctly. Could be worth a try? Maybe even just try it for the first week? Has anyone ever tried anything like this?

But most of us did a "self-introduction" on our facebook page...:scared1:

Hello Everyone-

I am not on this paticular cruise, but just found out our friend is. This will be their first Disney cruise. They have always heard of us talking about DCL. My youngest son has really talked their youngest (7) since they have been in the same class for 2 years. She is the one who came running up to me after school to tell me.
I spoke to the mom, but she is a bit overwhelmed right now and didn't think she wanted to venture onto the boards just yet.
I wanted to spread a little pixie dust especially for their daughter to make the trip magical for her. They have 2 older boys late teens so not so much worried about them.

So, I wanted to see if someone could surprise them maybe with a couple of door magnents or something. I didn't get their cabin number yet as I wanted to see if I could get some help here. I think she would be tickled pink to see these little surprises here and there. If needed I can print some up and mail?

I haven't looked on the roster to see if I cruised with any of you before. I will do that too.
I noticed a lanyard list...would it be possible just to get one for the little girl?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I just want their family to have a memorable experience. I know my boys love particiapting in FE exchanges and decorating our door.
Thank you so much.

Get the cabin # and I will be happy to leave magnets for her....

I thought from all he upgrades that we were going to be the only ones on deck 1. Glad there will be some others so it won't be eerily quiet :)

We aren't planning on spending too much time in our rooms - so we didn't mind where we were as long as we are on the ship. :)

Sharon

I see that you are on the cruisetour and that you weren't upgraded (me either), I thought that you would be! I'm on deck 1 with you and my kids will make sure that it isn't too quiet ;)

Better than the split bath, you have the sea chest storage cabinet (at least in most cat 10s!) On a 14 nighter, storage space is a very good thing!

Oooo, thanks for the info. I am a member of Overpackers Anonymous, so I'll need all the space I can get. :rolleyes1

I would also be happy to leave something for her if you let me know the cabin number.:)

So excited -- Disney just texted that they'll be posting our flight info tomorrow. This is the first cruise where we've used Disney-arranged travel to and from the ship. I'm anxious to see where they've got us going! :D And I love text messaging! :cheer2:

Thanks ! :thumbsup2

Just looked it up. Our cabin is not there, but there are a few around and they say the location is great and there is no noise ! My husband was sure that by going GTY, we would get a cabin right next to the engine room ! We are on deck 7 near the back (near the secret deck !!) So we will have a great time  We can all meet there and have secret deck parties !!! :woohoo:

Just Curious - How does Disney assign table mates? Do they put people without kids together? Can we request this? We love Disney and we love kids, but not so sure that we want to eat with the same kids everynight at our table (especially if they are not well behaved and well mannered). We would prefer more adult conversation and have been fortunate on other cruise lines to have great table mates. I really wish we could eat at a different table everynight and meet lots of people. That way no one is stuck with a couple of duds on a two week cruise. We have main dining this cruise. We like to have a nice cocktail, go to dinner, and then see the nightly show.

We have main dinning also. No kids just my dad (83) if you would like to link dinner that would be great. I love kids but dad has little patients at his age for them.

Thanks ! :thumbsup2

Hey Anik! We are in the same area of the ship - we actually have one of the rooms right next to the secret deck. We have been in this room before on the Disney Wonder and this area of this ship is pretty peaceful. The only noise you really get is on port days you can hear and even feel the engines, which is ok by me because it usually gets me up and outside to see the approach to the port. But one those loooooooooong days at sea you and your husband should find nothing but tranquility in your stateroom. See you soon - neighbor!
