May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

Any military folks planning on taking a "hop" home? We are not booked yet for this cruise but really really want to do it. However the flight home for us and the 4 kids is outrageous! Don't know what to do. If I could just swim back to the States.....Our oldest just figured we could hang out until the Magic came back home! ;)

Debm-what part of IL are you from? We live in IL, near St. Louis.

My son wanted to know how many days until our cruise, so I showed him one of the tickers in this thread and said "that many days!". He wanted a ticker of our own, so I have made one and added it.....what we don't do for our kids ;)

I hope you can make it! Have you thought about posting your question about the military hop on one of Disboards broader forums? With this one being "Transatlantic" specific, you might find other military Dis cruisers on a more general forum. Or maybe try a Disboard search?

If getting out of Barcelona on a hop is a problem, maybe you can manage to get to a base by train or short flight. Our flight home connects in Germany. I know you'd be able to get a hop from there!

Good luck!

Hello, my wife and I along with 16 son and 11 daughter are joining your adventure. The Boards appear a little slow compared to previous cruises. I am curious if this cruise will have low numbers. I guess this means I may actually get a lounge chair in the pool area.:yay:

Hi Muscatine73!
I saw you are listed as from Iowa. We live in Council Bluffs.
We usually don't have too many Iowans on the cruises with us. We feel IA is a nice place to live as long as you can travel!!!

See you real soon. :banana::banana:

Hi!

Would someone who has a cabin on deck 6 or 7 and are also Midship, volunteer their cabin as our DIS update center?

We did this on the PC cruise and it was very convenient to have one central location for DIS activity updates. Midship and a higher floor made it easy to stop by on your way to somewhere else.

The only thing the volunteer needs to do is have a white board on their door where DISers can write down gatherings or changes. We also had the book and magazine exchange bag at this cabin. All we need for that is a bag hanging outside the door. They used zip ties to attach it to the railing. The book bag took care of it's self....just needed a central location. At the end of the cruise, the bag contents were given to Guest Services and donated to the crew. I will do that if the cabin volunteer doesn't want to.

I will set this up at my cabin if no one is interested in doing this. BUT I am Deck 2 AFT so you will get your exercise!!!!

Any MIDSHIP volunteers? :thumbsup2

The Air Force has C-17 flights almost daily out of Rota, Spain which is just across the harbor to the north from Cadiz where we will be visiting. Most of their flights go to Charleston, SC. A train to Rota from Barcelona would robably be a real scenic trip after two weeks on the ship. A friend has done the Rota flight several times. Just need to be flexible on travel as you might not get on based on loads and who outranks you.

Thinking of booking this cruise, does anyone have experience with Disney's flight choices? I'm wondering about layover times. I'm good with a couple hours but with too young kids, I don't want to be sitting around too long at layovers..

Last year, DCL's connections and layovers were EXCELLENT! Their prices were higher than what I got on my own. This year, their prices are as good as anything I can find.

As to "will they offer kids free?" I certainly hope not. Sorry, but I've been on two cruises where KSF was offered after I'd booked and I frankly wouldn't choose to do it again. It might be different on this one with the air fare so expensive....

We are gty...I'll volunteer my cabin if I get a midship location!

Thanks for this! This will be our first time not on deck six and I'm happy to have a reason to visit.

Thanks for volunteering for this. :flower3:

**Can this info (need your cabin # please) be put on the first page with the general info and also on the spreadsheet for the book exchange info.

DIS group update and information white board and book bag will be at David and Adele's cabin on deck 6. Be sure to stop by.

:thumbsup2 Hi Barb, glad to be of some help. I think I have done what you asked; I have put our cabin number on the spreadsheet next to location for the book exchange, our names, cabin number, and DIS name are already on page one of the spreadsheet.

Best wishes

Adele :) (and David)

Hi LOL this will be our first time on any deck other than deck 2 and never on the Magic or Wonder have we had a balcony cabin. Happy to show you around LOL :rotfl:

Well, high time! :goodvibes

We decided to bring my MIL along, rather than have a balcony this time. I do enjoy a balcony (mainly for the fresh air), but would rather have her!

Deck six is our favorite. We are booked on it in August.
But, since I am traveling solo I wanted to save some money.

Does this mean you don't like kids? Or is it the kind of cliental that Kids Sale Free brings aboard. Either way that’s truly sad. Maybe this is the wrong cruise line for you.

We are booked, well deposited! I haven't read any of this thread but did find the FB link. :thumbsup2 Are there 2 separate threads or is this the second installment??

It's just me & DH this time (Gary & Bev) & I'm 99% sure we are going!

Just need to see if we can afford to fly!! I'm going to check with DCL tomorrow to see if they're any better because so far I'm getting lousy results from Kayak! :rolleyes1

I was just doing a little addition on the roll call spreadsheet, and we have nearly 200 people listed on the sheet!!

party:

Hi both, Ha Ha looks like we chose a good deck and cabin this time around. We are celebrating being retired. Our family are significantly reduced, frail and elderly, or other, so a party or gathering wasn't a "go" so we decided we couldn't let something this significant go by without something of a celebration. We love sailing with Disney so here we are counting the days to sailaway. We also get to visit with friends in New York and stay at WDW too, are we the luckiest folks or what?

I didn't take kcashner's post that way at all. I've noticed that some sailings will fill up in a week after KSF is offered....all the slots for children get filled up that is. I believe that means the ship will have a higher than usual number of children onboard. Can make it hard to move your cabin number, fewer chances of upgrading. Can make the cruise itself louder and more crowded. I love kids, but there is a big difference between sailing with 400 kids vs over 1,000.

My kids like having a large enough number of kids onboard that there is enough to always have some kids around and make friends with. Any more beyond that, just means crowding and longer lines.

I believe kcashner has many DCL cruises under her belt, it seems to be the perfect vacation fit for her :thumbsup2.

Congrats on your retirement!! I think you will love deck six and you certainly are due for a new experience. We aren't going to be able to spend any time in Florida this time around....two weeks off is all DH could get away from work right now, things are so tight and busy. This was the only cruise that could fit into his schedule so I jumped on it!
