May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

welcome and hello there from us two who live not so far away :)

Don't worry you will catch up with what is happening. As stsomewhere says there is a spreadsheet on the first page that shows some of the activities that are being organised.

FE are fish extenders - but as we have no kids don't really understand - no doubt someone else will explain for you.

are you flying out to Florida and having a day or so there before the cruise?

Sharon & Ian
We've actually been in the States for almost a year, and my wife and I grew up in Florida (I have dual citizenship) We will be flying easyjet to Liverpool, then having some friends give us a lift back to Cannock.
How about you 2?

Damian- our 16 almost 17 yo daughter will be on board, so he definitely won't be the only teen and I'm sure there are more. We usually do on our own tours because they're cheaper and we just don't like big tour groups, but will be booking the Seville on your own through Disney rather than taking the train. We almost missed the ship in Rome last year when the train stopped twice- sitting on the track forever at one point. So not chancing that again.

njmom- thanks for the head's up on the Seville on your own. I didn't see it in the list on the website at all, and was wondering why they didn't offer something like that. We're all booked for that and can't wait. Glad you're feeling better.

Now we have to decide on Madeira.
Skoi - thanks! If you want to give me any tips for travel, etc, I would be extremely grateful. My family is well traveled, and we wish to continue the trend, so any tips would be appreciated.

If I was understanding some of the comments, some brave souls are designing lanyards and shirts. Can anyone get on that wagon?
Damian

We have just purchased our cruise and our tickets to take us to England! :woohoo: Boy, looking at all these posts, I have a lot to catch up on!!! Could some kind soul walk me through to at least understand what we need to pach for all the special formal, semi formal, pirate, etc nights? My wife and i will be traveling with our 2 boys (6 & 14), and my teenager would love some assurances that he will not be the only teenager on the ship!
What are some secrets, that if i do not do, my family will feel cheated.
Excursions? Go though Disney, or scour the internet and find cheaper alternatives?
Thanks for your help!
Damian

Hello! My son will be 14 by the time of the cruise :)

I've booked our flights to Orlando and my MIL's too. We usually stay at the Hyatt in the airport. Is there a better option that can fit 5?

I booked Palo brunch for my birthday and Palo dinner for my DH's. Can you believe this cruise takes place over both of them?!!! We are 9 days apart, but this is one loooooonnnng cruise :cool2:

I booked the Catamaran Whale and Dolphin Watching for Madeira, Portugal. Is there a better/cheaper one that I should be booking privately?

There is no education better than life experiences-this from a military wife who drug two girls all over the world-disenroll her and "home school" for the last 9 days. By May they have attended enough days to count for the next year. Take back your parental rights.
great idea!!! Take your children back from the State!

hannah is getting her work the week prior to us leaving and her teacher will be giving her the final tests so that she can have her report card ready before we leave. When we return school will be out and she will have done all of her work ahead of time and already taken all final testing. She can cruise with no worries of school.
awesome!

Is there a tipping service instigated by the ship, or is it left to the discretion of the individuals?

Suggested tipping per person for 14 days:
$168 (Server $56, Assistant Server $42, Head Server $14, Stateroom $56)

Plus, you will need to tip for room service.

Cool! Have you guys ever done a long cruise like this?

We did the 10 night med last May and the kids felt there were too many ports....they love sea days! They are excited about the huge amount of sea days on this cruise. The clubs on the Magic are great. They also enjoy spending time with Grandma and we will have her to ourselves for two weeks :goodvibes. I was telling DD that we should all learn how to play bridge during all those sea days and she responded that she has plans for her time and won't be having any time for bridge! This will be our longest cruise yet, our NewZealand/Austria Princess cruise was 12 nights. DS was only 8 for that one, though.

Hi!
Would anyone be interested in doing a recipe exchange on the TA? ::yes::

Participants pick a regional recipe from their home town area or their favorite personal recipe. Then we put it on a recipe card, the back of a postcard, etc.
Sometime during the cruise you find the card in your fish.

It's been a nice way to collect some different food ideas and it's always fun to come back to your cabin and see that your fish has been fed!

I will coordinate the list of participants if others would like to do this with me.

If there is interest then maybe we can have it added on the spreadsheet?

I added the recipe exchange to the events page on google spreadsheet (link on pg1)

THANK YOU for adding that to the spreadsheet.

I've enjoyed doing this with new DIS friends on other cruises. Besides a "tried and true" recipe....I also get to remember the person who cruised with us.

Please join us! The more the merrier!! party:

It also helps with post cruise sadness.......:sad1:

Barb

A quick question for the recipe exchange. If there are 15 of us in the group, does it mean that we do a card for everyone in the group ? :confused3
