May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

Just got off the phone with DisneyCruise and just got $540 refunded by moving to a inside GTY :banana::banana: We already had an inside category, so going to a GTY one won't make much of a difference ! But $540 does !!!

Thanks a bunch Tammy, we owe you a few drinks ! :worship:

I was booked in a GYT, too. I just called changed to the discounted rate and added a prenight stay. I am getting $110 refunded to my credit card:cool1:

We'd swich to from inside to Oceanview Guarantee, but we have a sideways Cat 11 and I'd rather keep it than risk getting a Deck 1 Cat 9. :lmao: Instead, I'm keeping an eye on open rooms and might ask to see what upgrades are available when we check in. At least that way if there isn't anything we want, we know we'll be happy in what we have.

Maybe someday they'll install the virtual portholes in the inside staterooms on the Magic and Wonder, too, and then the OVs and Verandahs will be cheaper than Insides like on the Dream! :rotfl:

Thanks for the savings info! We saved about $400, just applied it as OBC, it'll get used up I"m sure! We had 11Gty anyway, no difference for us but price.

I have an accessible room so I would have had to chance giving that up. I normally travel with a scooter. So I decided against it. However. I will also check for upgrades at the port. Either way, I like the room I have, close to the aft deck on the seventh floor. Enjoy the saving everyone.

I have a middle of the ship room. In case of high seas. Less motion in the middle rooms. I would love to save but I am going to stick with my room as well.

I agree with Deck 1 cat.9 but since I am sailing alone , it does not matter. Just happy to be on the ship. I figured I would be stuck on that deck anyways..why not save a little money.

We have a 12:45 flight booked to Amsterdam. I'm trying to check in online now, and it's telling me that flight is too early, then won't let me choose Disney transfers.

Does anyone else have a flight booked this early? If so- do I have to call Disney to arrange an earlier transfer, or get a cab. Last year for the Med, we did use a taxi service.

Thanks.

Our flight back to the UK is at 11am - so I guess we will have to get a taxi - but it doesn't look as though it should take long to get to the airport from the cruise terminal.

although as we booked via vacation points - I don't think the disney transfers wouldn't be included for us anyway.

Ahhh! My excitement was short-lived. I had to cancel my beloved transatlantic cruise. My daughter's school is not going to cooperate with us and threatening all sorts of mayhem if I take her out of school and she misses the last 9 days of school. I hope you all have a great time and I know you will.

Sorry to hear that. I completely understand. My kids can't miss either. So, they are staying home with dad.

:sad1: Sorry to hear that, Tammy.

I am so sorry to hear that Tammy :-( I was looking foward to meeting you and your daughter. :sad1:

Like "stsomewhere", we are leaving our daughter with my parents so she won't lose any school.

sorry you won't be joining us.

There is no education better than life experiences-this from a military wife who drug two girls all over the world-disenroll her and "home school" for the last 9 days. By May they have attended enough days to count for the next year. Take back your parental rights.

I'm late for the party, but at least I made it! I've speant a few hours reading ALL 365 posts to this thread before introducing myself. I'll be onboard with my husband, Sam, and DDs, Sophia (8) and Sydney (5). This will be our second Disney cruise - previous was a 7 day E.Carib. in 2009 aboard the Magic. Hubby loved days at sea so much, we signed up for the 2010 TA, but work obligations got in the way, so here we come in May! :yay: BTW, he will be celebrating his 50th birthday onboard - May 23rd!

This is the first forum I've belonged to, so we are new to FE's and all that goes with this fun group! I especially liked Cantwaittocruise's posting about 2010's TA weather and attire reccomendations, thumbs up to the lanyard idea, and I can't wait to hear what everyone is doing in all the port stops. We enjoy geocaching as a family, and I see that there are a few others out there. Could this be one of the planned group activities in one of the ports? I like the Champagne Girls idea - Oh yea!

We're flying EWR - MCO on Saturday morning. Have signed up to ride the DCL bus to port, but reconsidering a towncar. Will spend 2 nights in Barcelona before flying home. We're considering staying at the Hilton Diagonal using Hilton points. Does anyone have feedback on that hotel?

Heatherb819, I got a msg from you on another board and didn't reply. I'm sorry, but I lost interest in that not-so-active board. Glad to see you here!

Tammy, my heart is breaking for you! I think Tiggertalk is right - home school for 9 days!

We're looking forward to meeting everyone and making new friends!

Cheers!
Susan

Welcome, Susan and family! I think the 8-9 year olds will be ruling the ship this trip - so far that seems to be the most popular age group! Our Hannah will have just turned 9 in April, and will be missing the last 2 weeks of school.

Speaking of school - I'm hoping I can get some of her work for her to do while we're gone, and either mail it in from ports or turn it in when we get home (even though school will be over). Would anyone else with school-aged children be interested in some group study time? I bet we could have the kids camp out in the Promenade Lounge or Rockin Bar D for an hour or so per day and get a lot done!

Amanda

Welcome Susan and family! Hannah will be thrilled, another 8 year old!!!!:cool1: I agree with the other Tammy, home school for 9 days, mono, step throat, something....We have pulled DD out of school each year for a vacation due to DH work vacation schedule. We either go during school time or don't have a family vacation at all. Of course she's only 8 and I know it's gets harder to take them out of school when they get older, but when you've let them know in advance, they should be able to work with you on it. Maybe it'll work out for you and you can re-book with an even better rate!:thumbsup2
