Rethinking Barcelona excursion. I have Montserrat full day booked. I was thinking about exploring the city on my own. How safe is it and would you go by yourself?

Christi, we are going to this tour After the tour is done ~5:15pm, us 3 plan to go to Las Ramblas area and La Baqueria market on our own. We will then finish up the night, eating a late dinner somewhere. You are welcome to join us..

Thank you for the offer. I may take you up on it. I am trying to figure out my options. I only have one day to spend in Barcelona and want to make the most of it.

Have you been to Montserrat before? The pictures look amazing.

Christi and others - I am also doing the full day tour of Monterrat - I also was planning on doing the Las Ramblas on my own after the tour - if any of you aren't completely sick of me by then - maybe we could strike out for some tapas and sangria


I have very seriously thought about switching and just doing Barcelona on my own - but decided that I could spend a week in Barcelona and that trying to limit myself may be very frustrating. I don't know just yet - but today, as of this posting I am leaning back towards keeping the excursion. I may change my mind tomorrow but....

We have never been to Europe before!! Montserrat is quite impressive. We have the same dilemma also. There's so much to do, but not enough time. Maybe next year, we can do a WBTA and spend a week in Europe before the cruise.

I keep going back and forth, too. There is so much to see. I have been very excited about the Montserrat tour with a stop at the church. I would like to see some of the town. I like the idea of sangria and tapas and Las Ramblas after the tour

I know that my family would HATE going to the Monastery . I would hear complaining about it the whole time. I was looking forward to the hiking trails and views.

ETA: hrhdhd might be interested in joining us in town.

I have a Pacsafe purse. I am planning on using caution. Can I walk to town from the ship or will I need to take a taxi?

On the 2007 EBTA, Disney provided busses to round drip to get from the dock to an area just across the street from where Las Ramblas starts all day on Friday. I would expect that they will do that again. No need to spend money on a taxi if the ship provides the busses.

I hope DCL is still doing this. Las Ramblas seems like a relatively easy walk from the port. But the actual distant can be very deceiving

check the spreadsheet add your room , even if you see same type same area add to the list, everyone will use the space different and have things they just do that may be a great idea to others.

whats wrong with Google maps ?

If you have an iPhone, there is an app called "tripwolf" where you can download maps for all the ports we'll be visiting and use the GPS function offline (without cell service). Also has points of interest with descriptions. Not sure if they have it for other smart phone applications but something worth checking out.

I am going to the library in the morning. Let me see if there's any good guide book for these ports. If I see any good ones, I can make extra prints for distribution during our meets.
