Hey NC - My oldest son will be 22 on Monday and my other son is 16. Both of them did surfing, baseball and soccer.

Chris, my 16 year old has asthma and is slowly growing out of it. He has had some very bad attacks when he was younger. We have notice when there are extreme weather changes very cold to very hot in short period time or when the Santa Ana winds start to blow, he will start feeling bad. We have a nebulizer, inhalers and other meds to help him get through it. When he was younger, he used to wheeze a lot - very freaky.

I hope your son is OK and I am glad to hear you are on top of it.

Have a great weekend!

Sea

Thanks for telling me Sea. I am just not sure what is going on with his breathing as I am not at practice to hear it. He would DIE if I went to practice to hear it.

It happened once several years ago in elementary school. He was on the basketball team and they were not listening well to the coach so he made them run. That night the coach called me and told me that Chris had wheezed and had him stop running. It really scared the coach. Chris had a a bit of cold. So we chalked it up to that. The coach agreed and told me he would watch him and would let me know if it ever happened again. It didn't. Since then, he has played a lot of tennis, but didn't do as much running as they did in basketball or football.

The only other thing I can think of is when we are on vacation no one wants to sleep in the same room with him. We always thought it was snoring, but maybe it is wheezing. This is from when he was around 3 or 4 years old. I would even give him a decongestant or a cough or cold medicine. Of course I have mentioned this to different pediatricians thru the years, but they would just say, sounds like you have it covered.

I hope if he does have the doctor finds it.

NC- Ha ha, my son is also named Chris! Be proactive about this asthma thing. We had Chris checked out for lung infections, blockages, deformities, allergies, and cystic fibrosis. We wanted to check everything off the list so that we could deal with whatever it was and get him help as soon as possible. Push your doctors for tests and answers. Hopefully, you find some answers and a way to help your son and it will give you peace of mind.

I'ms till enjoying summer... and dreading that I only have three weeks left with the kids..

Of course I think school also lets out earlier for you as well. As the last day of classes here was June 25th.

We were out before memorial day. So almost 1 month ahead of you guys. I am sad they are going back this week since the weather has cooled down. We could go to the pool.

Enjoy your kiddos! Your Back to School date will be here before you know it!

Good morning MAYers! :goodvibes

Wow you guys have long school years. . . We start after Labor Day and finish the Friday after Memorial Day! You guys must have longer breaks during the school year, or maybe more breaks. . .

Well MAYers, here what I've been up to. . . We are considering moving. Not far, but still. . . Here's our dilemma - We moved here 2 years ago. We moved here to be closer to DH's work. He is still commuting, but 30 minutes rather than the 70 minutes from where we used to live. We could have moved to the city where DH works, but the public schools are awful. I'm sure you remember some of JO's stories, she lived where DH works. Anyway, we love it here. We love our town. We love our 2 year old house. We love our schools. We love our neighbors. Here's the trouble - there's been something like 15-16 accidents in or near our front yard in the past year. We live in a development. When we moved here all the good lots (with woods behind them) were taken. So we took the corner lot and also bought a wooded lot next to it. So basically we have a very small back yard, but have an empty wooded lot to the one side of us. So with the corner lot comes frontage on 2 roads, the main road and the development road. The main road is not a highway, but is highly traveled. The main road and the development road meet on a curve. The speed limit on the main road is only 40mph, but most travel 60+. Therefore many, many accidents. Some in our yard, some across the road, some in the neighbors yard, some in our wooded lot. These range from going in the ditch so far they can't get them selves out, to crossing the center line and spinning completely around, to flipping completely over onto their roof. Luckily no one has been badly injured. But this leaves us constantly fixing our yard, and constantly worried when the next accident will be. . .

So, I started looking at houses online a few weeks ago. We won't make the kids switch schools again, so we are looking in our town only. DH won't live "in town". I won't live "in the country". So we are limited. Of all the houses listed we have only found one that comes remotely close to what we like. And we LOVE it's location! The trouble is that it is 30 years old. We just built our house 2 years ago. The one we are looking at is in an older development and is backed by woods. It is beautiful. But, it is trimmed in that old dark wood (from the 70's), the kitchen is small and the cabinets are that old dark wood too. The master bathroom would need some work. The heat is gas, we have and love all electric. So we would probably want to switch that over as well. It is priced under what our house is worth. It is possible that we could get it and fix it up and come out with the same mortgage as we have. . . But, do we want to go through all that construction and do we want to give up our new house???

We are so confused. . .

Thanks for listening. Just had to get that off my chest!

Thanks for listening. Just had to get that off my chest!

Hmmm..... That's a tough one. Can you buy a house in your neighborhood, but in a better location? We have seen that happen several times. We even had one person who just moved across the street because she "loved" the house across the street and had "pined away" for it for years.

You just never know with a older house how much work you may have to do. It is a mystery. Then again, you may not have to do much. :confused3

I know, it is quite the dilemma! :rotfl: I have to laugh or else I'll cry!

We have considered waiting for one to come up for sale in our neighborhood, but being that our whole development is fairly new, there is only one house up for sale (due to a divorce). And it is way too big and costly for us. And I don't foresee anymore coming up for sale here. . .

:confused3

Hi Shelly - I am sorry to hear about all those accidents at your property. I had a friend who had a similar situation too. They contacted the city and asked them to send out a traffic assessment team to investigate why this is happening.

The solution might not have to mean that you have to move.

In our friends case. The city came in and examined the location, reviewed the accident reports and then made some changes. They installed new lighting in the area, reflectors on the ground and a reflector fencing. They also reduced the speed limit and installed new signage.

The changes they made worked and they have hadn't had any accidents for many years now.

Yesterday we celebrated our son's 22nd birthday at DL (Big surprise huh?) Anyways, that is what he wanted to do because normally he works on Sundays.
For lunch, we walked over to Tony Roma's and had a great celebration lunch - we love their bbq sauce.

It was kind of warm at the parks, a bit more crowded this weekend than the last few weekends.

Oh yea, check out my new Buzz scores - I broke a million last night again and finally ranked on the top ten score board twice yesterday. I am a happy camper!

Unfortunately we have already been down that road Sea. We don't live in the city, so we went through our township. Who then referred us to the state because the road is a state road. They won't lower the speed limit because they did an evaluation and said that they can only lower it if 85% or more of the traffic traveled at or slower than the current speed limit. Didn't make much sense to us. . . And they basically told us that there have been no fatal accidents, so they can't do anything about it. Pretty sad that they need to wait for something like that to happen. :sad2:

On a brighter note - Great pics as always Sea! :goodvibes

Where is everybody today??? :confused3

Wow Shelly, that is pretty pathetic that they won't do anything unless someone dies. How callous. Do you have any police or accident reports, photos of the accidents or damage? I would go to the local newspaper and tell them of your story. Mention that you have two young boys, and that you are concerned about not only the safety of your family but of your neighborhood and community that use this road.

Media attention to these matters gets a lot more action especially when you expose the heartlessness of the township to your problem.

Hi guys. :sad2: I am so frustrated. So, my dad went over our budget and there is no way that we can afford the house.

I am bummed - and I am considering doing something that I never thought I would do.

After my dad went over our budget and broke down how much we were spending on everything - he suggested that we move back in with them. :scared: Basically, after all of our student loans and monthly payments and debts and just everything that we pay for - we have 350leftover a month - and that is before we even touch our credit card payments. No wonder we are barely making it right now.... So, I am considering doing this for a year until we can save up some money for a downpayment on a house or just to have a little wiggle room. (We figured that we could save about $10,000 in a year after we pay off our credit cards if we save properly)

I asked Bob if he was comfortable with this and he says absolutely. I think that he is more open to the idea than me. I appreciate the offer - don't get me wrong. It's just going to be a huge adjustment from being on our own for the last 3 years - to going home again.

So, that is something that we are considering for now - lol -wish me luck with that

Sorry about the house Shelly - good luck - I know that is a tough decision.

Happy b- day to your son sea!!!

Welcome Matlock!!! Where will you be staying in May? :wizard:

Hey NC & Mari!! :goodvibes

Welcome Matlock! Tell us your plans! Welcome to the Mayers!

Shelly - Good luck with your house dilema. That is a tough one. Too bad the state will not help. Perhaps Sea has some good advice if you are willing to brave the media. I hate the media though so there is no way I would go that route.

RF - Wow, what do you think about moving in with your dad? Are you up for that? I almost think it would be easier for me to move in with my folks now (after being gone 20 + years) than it would have been for me to move back in when I was younger. It was hard to go back just when I was out of college for the summer. Let us know what you decide. It would be great for you guys to be able to save some money. :thumbsup2

Sea - Excellent score on buzz! I am so jealous!

Well - My son's lung function wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. It did indicate he may have mild lung disease. So we are going to start him on some meds to see how they work and treat him for asthma. We will test again in 2 to 3 weeks. At that time we will evaluate if he needs more testing, if the meds are helping, etc.

Any advice?

Hey NC - Sorry to hear about son's diagnosis. Did your doctor order any tests for allergies?

One of the things we do is on a regular basis is to have our air ducts cleaned as well as the heating and air conditioning units. We have also have our home inspected for mold and radon regularly. We also have air filters running too. I think every little thing we do helps to keep us all healthy.
