Looking at exchange rates again-We need US Dollars for onboard and Euros for Tenerife and Spain. What about Gibraltar?

Will we be able to exchange money onboard or do we need to do it before we leave home?

Scott must have missed. But based on the last two he has hosted, they start around 4 p.m. (we have come straight from the airport the last couple of times!). Hopefully, we are flying in the night before this time. Note to self: make reservations at OKW to stay!

Yes I musta missed that one, Sorry about that, Linda is correct about the time and the place will be OKW. Will post the locaion after we check in.

Thanks Linda.

Catching up....life has been crazy busy here....this is a very busy time of year with the holidays AND for me professionally....I work in the HIV/AIDS field and Dec. 1st (Friday) is World AIDS Day so there's always tons going on leading up to and around that (I just made a trip to the State Capital yesterday actually because I was one of a handful of people honored by the New York State Commissioner for "Distinguished Service in the Field"....so I think I've definitely earned myself a big vacation sometime soon...maybe May? ;) :goodvibes ).

Anyhow, the questions about money are good....should we be trying to get foreign currency/cash before we leave? Or can that be obtained easily (and at a reasonable exchange rate) onboard? And does anyone know what a good amount to budget to spend is? What does a meal, for instance, cost in Euros at any of the places we're stopping? (Of course, I know that how much spare money a person needs will depend on that DARN excursion list when they finally release it since some excursions provide food and others don't, etc.)

Also, does this group plan an onboard sailaway meet and greet or anything? We are certainly keeping the wine and cheese meet and greet in mind but aren't sure if we'll make it because 1.) we might have my parents with us for the portion of the trip at the World before sailing, and 2.) We aren't certain we'll have internet access to log on and get the final location (and of course there's never any accounting for whether I'll lose track of time in Animal Kingdom or some other park and just dilly dally my entire day/night away...hehehehe)

Thanks Linda and Scott. Our plane arrives around 4pm. We will probably check into our hotel first and then drive over to OKW. Will we be too late?

Tig82174 - Congrats on your award!

Does anyone know what a good exchange rate is?

Right now my bank is converting:

152.60 Cdn = 100 Euro
133.99 US = 100 Euro
115.69 Cdn = 100 US

Yes a congrats on your award that is pretty KEWL!!!!

I have been able to get various currencies from American Express, it is rather handy. Receive it via US Mail. Works well fro me , not sure of the exchange. I thought banks usually had higher exchange rates. Will be getting some Euros for our Jan/Feb trip and will let ya all know.

Enjoy the day, this is Lynn's last day at work as she is retiring, lucky
her.

We usually do 3 cruise meets on the day of sailing

1. In the DCL terminal for those of us who are so excited to get on the ship (like Scott) and have to be first in line! 6 a.m. too early Scott??? :rotfl2:

2. 3 p.m. on deck 10, Midship (above the Goofy Pool, on the dock side) until all ship services are shut down for the lifeboat drill. (by the way-DCL has new life jackets! They are VERY comfortable, no more screaming kids either!) YIPPEE!

3. The next cruise meet is the actual Sailaway Celebration which starts immediately after the lifeboat drill. Once again, deck 10, midship (above the Goofy Pool, on the dock side) where we wave goodbye to DCL terminal and set sail for 14 Magical days to the Med!

I am just figuring that this will be the schedule, since this is what we have done in the past! Everyone just kinda comes and goes and does whatever and this is where some of those great sailaway gift exchanges are made! (bring extra suitcase to bring all your stuff home.)

that's my two cents worth.

0600 too early not at all...... :teeth:

Hi all, It's been very busy here too. Really feeling the crunch of making this trip happen by tripling up on all our lectures to be able take off for 5 weeks! But we are keeping the May end event in mind. :cool1: Getting all the Christmas stuff done as early as possible, trying to wind up work before the holiday school break, running around town for all the holiday events, bunches of doctor appointments that make me evaluate how many excursions I'm losing with the money I'm spending at the doctor. :furious:

To get caught up:
Erik, congratulations. That is really a great to be honored by your peers - talk about getting that warm fuzzy feeling! :tigger:

CACruisin, I'm so sorry to hear you make it official! And on the other hand, I have a feeling that when the Magic comes back to the west you'll be standing next to us. Also, I have you on my calendar for next week! I'm glad that through this we got to meet and I know we won't lose contact!!

Linda, The itinerary sounds like lots of fun.

E&J, I hope you make the party, send us your cell phone before the trip and I'll call you to remind you!

Lynn, Congrats on retirement! WOW, what a lifestyle change - of course you'll be unpacking for the first year which will seem like a job!!

Thanks for the Euro updates, I was clueless.

Susie, I'm with you, feeling a little behind on the planning. I will make and set in stone my air plans this week and get it done.

OK everyone have a great week!

We definitely plan on being on the Magic if/when she heads west again. I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to meet rest of the crew, but I am glad that we met. DD3 and I will see you next week at DL. Looking forward to it!

We spent yesterday at DL to celebrate Curt's youngest daughter's birthday. Her actual BD is 12/25, but this was the last day before Christmas that we could fit into our schedule.

Milestogo and CACruisin,
Our company decided to close down for the entire Christmas week. And of course, it's too late to make any travel plans for that time. It might be a good time to try to get together. Is DL ridiculously crowded that week?

gift exchanges?
There was some discussion early on about gift exchanges, but I think the consensus here was that we don't want to pack an extra suitcase. Was there ever a final decision?

Susie, our passes are blacked out from the 23rd-2nd. And yes, it is very crowded. That week they usually announce on the radio traffic report that Disneyland is causing all kinds of traffic on the 5 frwy and Harbor Blvd. Often it is closed by noon (for a few hours) because it is full! But if you guys come up, we'd love to go to downtown Disney to meet for lunch or dinner. CACruisin do you have the deluxe pass too? Anyone else available that week to meet? That would be fun. :woohoo:

I am just a few hours away from getting on a plane for WDW!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc  :Pinkbounc :yay:

Visiting during the holidays is the best time to go. The decorations are wonderful and will be visiting with many friends.

I will be visiting here from WDW but will be back on December 18. So if anyone is visiting this upcoming week you can find me at the Off Kilter stage!!

Debbie
