Kim - you guys have snow?! Wow! We are still swimming!!!

I should have taken pictures. Savannah and her friend made 2 snowmen. They had gloves, jackets etc.... and came in with frozen toes right into the big tub.

They had a blast!

It is still in the 80's in Ohio, and the leaves are falling off the trees due to the lack of rain and heat - not fall! I keep wondering if we will go right from summer to winter with no fall in between.

I have gone to the last two HS football games and the last Indian's game in SHORTS! This is crazy!

I have to admit though - it is not yet time for snow.

Tonya Harding??? That must be scary!

As with anything highly competitive, the higher you go, probably the more scary it gets!

Hi Kim!

Hey John -- The good news for you is that the dads are actually totally cool!

I'll tell you what I think . . . in girl things, the dads for the most part are probably cool. Total opposite in boy stuff - like baseball.

There, dads are out of control, and can make total idiots of themselves. Maybe they are all living out their dreams through their daughters or sons. I went through this with Alex and baseball - my kid was OK, and just wanted a chance to play - other dads thought they had the next A-Rod, and they thought ONLY their kids should get to play. I have to say it was a really bad experience with some still bitter memories for me.

Sometimes you have to wonder if it is worth it. All those kids whose dads thought they were one step away from a major league contract . . . most of them didn't even make it to college.

I read that the times changed for Acapulco...that is great, I would love to leave at night to see the city all lit up. And I think they have a night showing for the divers.

Sounds like a great night for Palo! :thumbsup2

Anybody heard from AuntyBrat? I'm wondering how she is doing. Usually no news is good news, but after a while folks start to worry, you know?

.

That does sound a nice night for Palos I agree.

I do keep wondering about Laura. It is a hard time she has been going through and it would be good to hear how she is.

This is a huge generalization because many of the mothers are just lovely and have worked very hard to keep thier kids grounded.

BUT, because of the costs involved you have a lot of women with money who are used to getting thier way. Most of them are very well educated, but few have ever been skaters. It is worse when it is the child, some of the teenagers treat thier mothers horribly. DH told DD if she ever acted like one of the girls from our club (we call her veruca) she would be done with skating.

There is a lot of record keeping and scouting (just found this out this competition, I'm kind of dense with that kind of thing).

DH said ok, now I see where the Tayna Harding thing came from... Isn't that scary?

kim

Jaide has a "friend" (must use that term lightly in regards to her) who is in competitive skating. Her mom is the total scary "skate mom" and her daughter (at age 11) is horrible to her family and thinks the world revolves around her. Her younger sister told Jaide the other day that her sister gets away with anything and has anything she wants but she gets in trouble and has all her toys taken away. It made me so sad when I heard that.
Sounds like you guys are very grounded and realistic in your approach to skating!

Weather note:

We never even had a summer out here! Ok, so we did for a few sporadic days but it was the rainiest coldest summer I have spent here since i moved here in 1992! It has been 60 and rainy almost every day for the last few weeks. Luckily, during the soccer games, the clouds lift so we haven't played a game in the rain yet!

Has anyone seen/does anyone have:

Locks, Crocs, and Skeeters: The Story of the Panama Canal or The Panama Canal: The Story of how a jungle was conquered and the world made smaller (Wonders of the World Book)

The first is supposed to be good for ages 4-8 and the second for ages 9-12. I am trying to finish some christmas shopping and these would be for the girls.

Any opinions would be great.

Thanks

Don't have them but thinking the same as you that I will get them for presents. They seem to be the only books for kids. I wonder if one of them might be something that can be signed by the characters onboard. I am running out of ideas for signatures.

V - Who do ya'll play this week? We are off to Fayeteville, Arkansas where we always have a hard time winning. We're leaving early Friday morning and spending the day in Birmingham and then taking a charter over. Should be back Sunday morning in B'ham around 3am, and then hopefully home around 6am. I'll be sleeping Sunday!

I just ordered them so I can let you know next week if you don't get them before then.

. . . DH & I were at that game last night at the Collesium. Our friend has season tickets and he's away for the season, so he gave them to us (21 rows back at the 10 yard line-unbelievable seats)!!! It really was shocking to see Stanford win it in the last minute of the game. . .
An unbelievable ending!

Woody

I wanted to post some pictures, but photobucket seems to be down...can someone else try and see if it works?
