We will be in Knoxville in a few years for the Oregon vs Tenn game. Have always wanted to see a game in Knoxville after driving through there when we moved from Washington D.C. to Arizona. It was game night and we couldn't find a room at a hotel until two hours outside of town.
WOW!!! It does get busy. I love knoxville and we are close to so much fun stuff to do.

On our last cruise a diser made lanyards and had our logo and dis name and real name in the clear plastic sleeve. These were amazing.

(I think we are doing that on this cruise arn't we?)

GReat pics! It's such a beautiful area. I love Tennessee! Tyler and I will be in Clinton the last weekend of September, but we'll be pretty tied up with family because it's my brother's wedding weekend.

How cool! I wish you had extra time. If you ever come back look us up.

deb, is there any chance you could sneak some greek cooking on the plane in may?:lmao:
Greek food is very popular here and we have Tarpon Springs with the sponge docks and alot of little greek restaurants. Have been trying to be good but had a gyro and mini greek salad today ! YUMMMMM

I love Tarpon Springs. My grandparents live in Dover, FL in the winter. I have pictures of me when I was small with the sponge divers!

I did. She wants to wait and see how he does in kindergarten with just one teacher to listen to, same teacher every day, same age kids every day, more structured environment, etc. His day care has rotating teachers, they all only work a couple days a week, so it's not the same teacher every day, they all have different rules, and all the kids are combined from age 2-8. It's a new thing they're trying--consolidating the toddler room and preschool room. Not a good idea becaues the older kids are getting losing some attention they're used to getting because the teachers obviously have to spend more time with the little ones who can't do as much for themselves as the older ones do. The place used to be wonderful, but has changed lots in a few months.

Anyway, his doc he thinks he might have trouble controlling his impulses, but that I should wait to see if it improves in kindergarten with the above mentioned problems gone. And if it continues or gets worse in kindergarten, she will recommend a behavioral counsellor who can help him recognize when he's starting to lose control and different ways to cope with his anger and methods he can try to prevent completely losing control.
I'm not a doctor but this could be food related... my girlfriend had a very similar problem with her daughter... she changed her diet and it's like having a totally different child!

Well Finally....a confirmation....We're out of here tomorrow....We're going home tomorrow....anytime after 11:00am the doctor signs you out, then case management sets up your aftercare, then they let you out of jail and back to your life. YEAHHHHHHHHH....I couldn't be happier. I will lock up the puppy and not let her near me.

I'll have to do wound care three times a week to change dressings and continue antibiotics orally. I can do that. Then I get to be back at home with my sweetie, my Tivo, my DISers, my Ella and Angel, my to do list, which has been put on hold and I can now get back to.....it'll be nice to be surrounded by all my favorite things.:woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo:
YIPEE FOR YOU!!!!

Marilyn.....did you grow up playing "elastics"? At least this is what WE called it....I went to a British school in Brasil and grew up with this. We had a big piece of elastic (I guess, but we could also use rope) that 2 people would hold (starting low around the ankles, then going higher and higher) and then 1 person would jump across. I'm probably not describing it well, but it was loads of fun!

OH My Gosh - I totally know what you are talking about. One would catch the elastic rope with the toes and jump and cross the other side. I remember this game! It was so much fun.

My latest adventure happened yesterday when I was driving home from Lake Almanor. About 1 hour into the drive, my Suburban decided to stop running. Luckily I was heading toward Reno and not the Chico way as the Chico was has NO CELL service.

I called AAA and one hour later he had my Suburban on the Flatbed truck for the 75 miles trip to Reno. We dropped the Suburban at the Chevy dealer and I got a room at the Atlantis.

Needless to say, dealer is so busy this week and they can't look at the car til Tuesday so I am flying home tonight. I have doctors appointments on Tuesday and Wednesday so must get home.

Hopefully, the car will be ready by Thursday when we fly in for the Labor Day weekend.

DH thinks it may be the fuel pump but we shall see. Got to dash to make my flight. I will check in later.

Noel
So sorry to hear about your suburban trauma! Hopefully you will get your vehicle back without a huge "dr." bill!

So sorry to hear how this all started.

I know very little about dogs, but Oprah had her dog trainer on a couple weeks ago and that lady has a book THE LOVED DOG or something like that. She said that to get a dog to stop jumping on you, you have to turn your back because what they want is your face and your love. So, you turn your back and they don't get it. You say SIT and then turn around when they are sitting and give them attention. If they jump, you turn your back again. .....well..... it worked for Oprah.

Personally I would say Angel has to stay in another room all the time. But that's just me, being very protective of your legs!! and all the lovely surgery the MDs just did!!:cool1:

Very interesting to read your observations about family history and leg problems. Sounds like you have it pegged and I am SO GLAD you did not follow the family tradition!
Jan :earsgirl:

I saw this episode - she was really good! I liked that she's a bit more "loving" towards the dogs than some of the other trainers I've seen. Some say to "knee" a jumping dog. Her method was much easier on the dog and the person!

Good luck Deb with the puppy training, in the meantime - keep clear and healthy!

One of our fellow DIS cruisers (11/06 Double Dip) was from Tenneesee, a lovely couple (ALISBARC) - not sure if you've ever run into him but lovely lovely people. I remember the first time I'd ever been thru TN - (from IN originally) my SIL and I were driving from NW IN to N.C. I just fell in love with the mountains there. The way the clouds would hover just over the tops of the mountains. Just beautiful. We really have a beautiful country don't we?

I also love the mountains in upstate NY - gorgeous! I'm sorry but I feel like breaking out in song ... (This land is your land... this land is my land... from)

Sorry...:upsidedow

ok, the cooler and goodies are in the car. The girls are pretty much packed and we're taking costumes too! oy!

dinner is in the oven, load of laundry...and there is still more!

There's always more laundry to do :) HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!

Deb- I’m glad the hospital food has been good. The hospital where I gave birth to Olivia had really good food too- I was impressed! Woohoo for getting to go home!!

Holly- I’m sorry you had to take away Tyler’s toys!

You guys are killing me—I missed like 8 pages since this morning! I like the idea of the nametags. I have some of those paint chips in my office. I’m SOO tired! I stayed up too late last night, so I’m exhausted today. Hopefully I’ll get to bed at a normal time now, and won’t have this trouble tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't do a great catch-up.. I just need to get to bed.

:cool1: :cool1: :woohoo: Very cool. I'm glad you are getting sprung. I have only had to stay in the hospital once back in 93 when I had my Gallbladder removed. I know how you feel. I did not like it very much at all.

ok, the cooler and goodies are in the car. The girls are pretty much packed and we're taking costumes too! oy!
I hope you all have a magical trip.:thumbsup2

Heather, now that I know you live close by....you're certainly invited to come and meet UKAngel/Mandy who was going on this cruise, but had to cancel. Me and John will be there and we would LOVE to meet you and Tom and Bethany. If you can't make it Thurs Nov 1, how about doing the MNSSHP with us on Fri Nov 2? It'll be our first time doing it. Either way, we'll be at World at the beginning of November and we'll be in Bradenton/Orlando after Turkey day. Let us know what's good for you as the time gets closer and maybe we can work out a miniDISmeet with you guys too.

Thanks for the invite
We are doing MNSSHP on oct 21st. Im going to look at my schedule when I go back thurs, I may come up there by myself as tom works every fri and would be great to have a mini meet :)

I've never been there... from the people I know that are from there say its near Tampa. They say there is a large Greek community there and they are known for their sponges...my cousins wife is from there and yes she's Greek too;)

Its about 20 miutes north of me.When I did home care had a client up there and would have to eat lunch there everyday and then on way home somethimes hit the greek bakery. Just walking in that place was an instant 10 lbs

Awwww-- we're flying in on Oct 22, and doing the Halloween party on October 23rd.

Now Marilyn, don't be embarresed, but I'm going to tell the inquiring minds that want to know....exactly what you wrote on the boards the last time we had a language intervention.

OK guys, Marilyn wanted to express that I keep my spirits up and the terminology that she used was to keep my.....

peter piper had a BLANK of pickled peppers....

to keep my BLANK of pickled peppers up!!!!! ok, get it now! It was hystericaly funny because there was no pun intended, it was purely innocent.

So Marilyn, there is nothing to be embarrased about...it was funny and sweet and we all love the difference in the cockney slang....we will have a lot of fun at high tea and our lessons!!!!!:teacher:  :teacher:

Thanks for the explanation I've been curious as to what it was.

Yea!!!! Recovery is so much easier when in familiar places (plus you can get back to watching Big Brother After Dark - I'm going to guess the hospital doesn't have Showtime)

23 more post until 25000!

I think its 923 ;) (well probably from this post around 915 or so)

Sorry...:upsidedow

I grew up in upstate NY--skied those mountains every winter through Junior High and High School and some college trips. Went to College in Troy, NY and SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn. We lived two years on Long Island, 14 in the eastern mountains of NY, near the Green Mountains of Vermont, 9 months across the river from Albany, 7 1/2 years in Bethlehem, PA, 10 1/2 in Northwest Indiana and now 2 1/2 in Indianapolis. I have driven through those Tennessee Mountains!!

I wonder if our paths might have crossed.

Jan :earsgirl:

It sure is quiet on here today.

That didn't last!

John1, Have you had any time yet to develop the 'be your own boss' job?

No . . . just like in the John Lennon song . . . "Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans . . ." Life keeps getting in the way. If I were a single guy with no responsibilities, this ship would have left the port. But with everything going on, one kid in college, another one in 2nd grade, mortgage, house payment, bills, and cruises, I am finding it hard to devote time or dedication to my plan. It is frustrating me too!

John1, I can't help thinking about you and your mom....she had cellulitis, so did I, and if she had just gone to the hospital early on, like I did, and had the surgery, like I did, and gotten on the right antibiotics, like I finally did, she could be here with you today. Instead, she was a typical strong, stubborn Greek woman, like my mom and me, and she didn't go to take care of it. My mom's grandfather had lost his legs and then his life when my mom was a child. She talked about him every day of her life coz she loved him so much. I think he had the same kind of problem with his legs.

What is it with Greek men and women who get these leg infections and then don't do anything about it. I know I was hesitant to face the doctors and the hospital, because I know how I have a hard time dealing with medical stuff, but I always intended to go. It makes me wonder if my mom had properly taken care of herself medically, would she still be here today?

Sometimes I think strong and stubborn are traits that you naturally inherit if you are Greek....it's part of the territory.
:hourglass :coffee: :hourglass

Strong and stubborn seem to go together Deb. They also seem to be very Greek traits. Our people did not survive the mountains and the oceans, invent democracy, government, the theater, and philosophy by being weak. Your post brought a tear to my eye.

I keep telling my brother and sister, there is nothing either of us could have done to change what happened. Mom did what she wanted to do. It still makes me sad though, and I still cannot believe she is gone.

I have cousins in Tarpon, and we have visited there several times. Gyros are like Greek cheeseburgers - fast food. Deb reminded me of some of my favorite dishes - Greek Green Beans, like only my Mom could make them (all vegetarian, with celery and carrots in a tomato base), Avgolemono soup, boiled spinach with just a bit of Olive Oil and salt, boiled Endive and Dandelions with Olive oil and salt (Horta), and of course, Feta cheese.

Oh my gosh! What a nightmare! I hope your car will be ready for you when you need it.

We're driving, not flying for the first leg of this trip...no problem bringing food in the car, but won't be able to get it on the boat. We will have to arrange another time when John can cook for us...mom taught him just about everything she knows...and what he doesn't know, I know.

What area of FL are you in? I'm not sure where Tarpon Spring is??? :yay: :cool2: :yay:

Probably been answered, but just North of Tampa, very near Vanessa in Sarasotta on the West Coast. The area attracted Greek fishermen because of the Sponges that were plentiful off the coast. If you have seen the "diving for the cross" at Epiphany, that is at Tarpon Springs. Large Greek community, and a beautiful Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
