I couldn't sleep and the girls and John are all passed out. I bet they will sleep til noon!

it's so nice and peaceful out by the pool....I just went a bit ago to get a water (we have a refrigerated cooler by the pool) and it was just sooooo quiet!

I have to say....yesterday morning I was so MAD.

Samantha cut a HUNK of Haley's hair, right in the middle in the back. It's very very noticable. But I am going to leave it. I don't want to cut the rest.

Anyway I can get it to grow faster?

One of our grandsons cut the whole side and half a fringe of one of his twin little sisters!! He was 3ish and his sister 2ish. I think he still won't admit it 4 years later.

At least we could tell the girls apart for a short time!

Lisa- glad the rash was just poison ivy, though I’m surprised she wasn’t itching like crazy at it.

Holly- I hope you found that you lost some more weight at the doctor’s office.

Nan- I wish I could have chatted on the thread a little last night, but my head hurt too much to stay on the computer. I wound up watching The Aviator until 1 am.

I love Big Love too! It’s such an interesting show with all the characters.

Angie- great job getting what you wanted for your Disney cruise in December. I’m a little worried about getting things for our cruise! It seems so many of us are castaway members and will be up trying to book things at midnight!

V- sorry about Haley’s hair!!

OK, I need to clean the house (how eciting!)

I am on page 1644. Not sure I will even try to catch up.
I have been busy moving boxes from storage. The place we had our Rialta and boxes stored is raising the rent a LOT, and since we only used the Camper two weekends this year, we decided it is time to sell it. A neighbor is not using his hallway storage closet and is letting us use it for free. So, I have been PACKiNG It like it was a suitcase going on a cruise!

I got a countdown calendar for this cruise from Pat. She made lovely designs
http://www.patsdesigns.com/
I could not find the calendars so sent her an e-mail to order it with our theme and dates on it. I put it with the reservation papers. We got one for our September cruise--CARS and are using it now! Fun--even for 58 year olds!:woohoo:
There is a thread too:

I am going to Minneapolis for a conference and am not done with the box-moving so do not know when I will read this. If there is anything I need to know can someone PM me?

Michigan lost again - but so did we. On the positve note at least this year is our last year of our quarterback! And hopefully a coach. We didn't get home until after 3am, so can ya'll try and not be so chatty? I will never catch up!

pirate: Morning Thieves

Karen....is it the 'super seal champagne stopper' that I should be ordering? Think I'm going to get some of the organza gift bags too. I like to use a gift bag when I bring a bottle to someone's house :thumbsup2

Peg heads off to Cabo today, can't wait to hear about her horseback ride...I know some of us are considering it for an excursion next May.

Well, I've been DISing for two hours.....time to go make a yummmy Sunday breakfast.

We are lucky that our school is the only school for the district so all the funds stay with the school (I think there is about 500 kids). I am pretty sure the salaries for the teachers are a bit higher in California so probably one of the reasons more money is needed. But this school is a little unusual with its fundraising...somewhat infamous. During the days of the high tech boom, it was even more crazy with the gifting. I feel grateful our kids can reap the benefits - 2 full-time art teachers, 2 Spanish teachers (starting in 1st grade), 2 full-time music teachers, FT speech therapy, FT reading specialist, etc. The school is probably the biggest reason we moved here three years ago. However, the local public high school isn't very good so not sure what we are going to do. I guess private, but it sure would be nice not to have to deal with tuition. Lisa

I don't think salaries are much higher here in California since that is not the information I get from siblings who are teachers. We choose to keep our kids in the same private schools and they did not attend Woodside Elementary. Since all three of my kids went to the same private schools, I don't know what it would feel like to not pay tuition for school. You just so used to paying for school and books, that college does not give you "sticker" shock!!

The caliber of the teaching staff at her private schools was exceptional. What I did not like was the competition to get into the private schools and the pressure the kids feel during the testing and interviews. Samantha got into all four of the private schools she applied to so we were lucky to be able to choose the best school for her. I had friends whose children did not get into the school of their choice and were devastated.

Hmm..I don't recall I mentioned our amount - probably not too polite of me. Didn't mean to talk too much about money. We actually are on the lowest patron amount so I don't think of ours as very generous, but for us it is a lot.
Lisa

I was the one that mentioned an amount raised not Calmom. I mentioned the amount to demonstrate that at this particular school the auction activity is a year long process commencing one week after the current year auction. The auction chair is a highly sought out position and involves 52 weeks of work. Every parent in the school is involved in finding or donating items to sell which end up being about 400-500 which about 26 are very high ticket items.

We were not on a very high patron level either but I felt the time we devoted to the school and the auction were far and away more important that just writing a check. MY DH wrote the software and I managed the on line auction for the school until Samantha graduated.

It was amazing how many people came into the school and just expected to write a check and try to give almost no time to the school. The way CSUS worked was if you couldn't write large checks, you were still expected to give your time. Every parent in the school was expected to give time to some sort of committee no matter how large or small a check was gifted to the school. The pressure was intense no matter how busy a parent was in their career, no excuses were accepted by other parents who somehow managed to make time. The school did not pressure the parents, the other parents did the pressuring.

In my experience, when a parent has to pay SOMETHING for education, they tend to be more involved with the school. I am not saying public school parents aren't involved but the degree of involvement seems to increase when all activities are not free. Just my thoughts and experience raising three kids though the school system starting in the 1970's.

Our Dec cruise still has LOTS of staterooms available so the booking was not too bad. Still lots of Palo dinner available at 9:20. This cruise will be VERY different on booking night. Just like the day they opened the reservations for this cruise. :sad2: The good thing is that there will be 15 days, lots of sea days for brunch, so I am sure we will all get at least something.

Noel,
Did you read about the talk regarding the fields? I guess they decided to do two turf fields instead of grass. It was going to be a big cost savings and they (school board) thought it would be better. Then, over the summer - after they had already started the field work - a petition got started to only have one turf field and change the other to grass. First response was it was too much money. And then, kinda of out of the blue, money no longer was an issue and the board met, and decided to change plans. I am pretty impressed by their flexibility, and thankful of the mystery funds. Since the bond got passed 18 months ago, they are now almost all done. Pretty fast work, thank goodness as having to deal with construction while dropping off and picking up is a pain!

Yes, I did read about the fields. Since there are many affluent parents in the district, it did not surprise me that an anonymous donor stepped up to the plate. We had a matching donor dollar for dollar at the CSUS auction a few years ago. I happened to know who the parents were and the condition of the gift was anonymity. The family did not want their children to know about the gift.

Jan, DrHug and I have found that we are really just kids in old people's bodies! :dance3: And we don't ever plan to grow up! :upsidedow

Your reminded me of an incident that happened in 1989. When Samantha was about 4, she watched the original Parent Trap. While my husband was wrapping a birthday present on our bed, she went into the bathroom and cut her waist length blonde hair off in chunks. We had to trim it as she cut it all over.
