She's all for that Karen! She must be feeling better today as they've gone up to London anyway I think the lure of the shops has been very strong...... Paul was very disappointed that he'd made her a cake though and she couldn't eat it...he's just so sweet!

He sounds like a keeper! Unfortunatly, they often are around too early for DD's to realise how wonderful they are!!

Here is the latest on my San Diego Theta Mom's weekend.

I flew in early yesterday to wait for the DD who was still sleeping when I called. Ok, normal, so I wait 45 minutes for her to pick me.

Finally in the car, she takes me to the hotel Hyatt Islandia where I normally stay to discover the hotel in undergoing a MAJOR renovation. No concierge floor etc. even though I am booked in this now nonexistent room. Apologies are offered and rate is greatly reduced.

After the front desk lowers the rate, I check in. I unpack and iron for a bit and since I am tired and want to relax, I decide to take a shower. NO HOT WATER!! Well, I am in a bit of a hurry as we have lunch ressies in La Jolla so I take quick cold shower and call the front desk. No problem, they tell me, will be fixed when I return.

Samantha picks me up and we go off to get her hair done in La Jolla while I stroll the streets. I am along for the bill paying at the end of the hair assignment. Once the bill is settled, we drive up the hill and pick up her HS best friend Shawn from her condo.

Back to downtown La Jolla, we have lunch at George's at the Cove in the Ocean Bistro. $80 lunch for 3 including tip for DD, myself and her HS best friend Shawna plus $8 for parking. Don't even ask about what we spent clothes shopping. Drop off Shawna back at her condo and off we go.

Next we are off to the car wash and to fill up her car with gas. Of course car is totally filthy and below empty. She proceeds to leave her Trish McEvoy makeup bag at the car wash so we have to rush back, grab makeup bag. She runs home after she takes me back to hotel room where water is still ICE COLD. I take a quick cold shower, change to cocktail attire, call front desk again and get profuse apologies and another promise that problem will be fixed.

Sam returns and we go to the cocktail party which is held on the terrace of the Joan Kroc (yes, as in McDonald's) Institute for Peace and Justice terrace. 100 Thetas mom and DD's gather to chat and eat a few veggies, a bit of cheese and drink punch for $15.00 each. However, we had to pick up our Theta Mom's race shirt so not a total loss. Needless to say by 7:30 PM DD and I are starving!!

We drive to Old Town in San Diego, miraculously find a parking space and proceed to have another miracle, immediate seating at DD's favorite Mexican restaurant, Cafe Coyote. DD insists I take off my phone and Bluetooth and relax which I do putting both on the chair next to me. Then, DD convinces me since she is driving to have a Million Dollar Margarita made with Don Julio Repaado, Cointreau, Grand Marnier shaken with fresh orange juice, fresh lime juice and served on the rocks before dinner and a glass of Sangria with dinner. Both were JUMBO size. At this point, mommacita, is very happy. If you check the picture on the website, we were sitting right behind the lady making tortillas.

Dinner costs about the same as lunch and we leave to go back to the hotel and to drop off DD. As soon as we arrive at DD's condo, I discover I have left Bluetooth and phone on chair. We immediately call restaurant and they say nothing has been found. DD says we are on our way!!! I have visions of $2K worth of calls to Mexico at this point. Arriving 10 minutes later at restaurant, DD jumps out of car and rushes inside. Two minutes later she comes back beaming with both items in her hand. It seems the hysteria in my voice had convinced the head waiter to go back to the table and sure enough on the chair is sitting both items. A HUGE SIGH.....

DD returns me to hotel and I surf the DIS boards briefly before falling asleep as I have a 6:30 AM wakeup call for the Breast Cancer Walk.

6:30 arrives and you guessed it, NO HOT WATER!! Another quick cold shower and a call to front desk who assures me that they are not going to charge me for last nights stay and offer me a free dinner in their restaurant. What am I going to say at this point? Fine, BUT FIX the water. I am stylishly dressed in Theta Mom's shirt, workout pants and tennies.

DD in the same attire picks me up at 7:00 AM and we are off to sign up. We meet the rest of the other stylish dressed mom's and DD's, take a group picture and chat before the race. DD runs the 5K and I walk the 3K. We are cheered at the finish and get our Pink Medals. Now back to the car to rush back and change for the mini meet at the Park.

Back to the hotel for a quick shower and of course, still no hot water. At this point, I call for the third time, get the manager and more apologies. However they do send someone from maintenance who tells me that all will be fixed by this evening. We shall see!!

Presidio Park is the location for the mini meet. Located above Old Town San Diego, it has a great museum. For us, we are directed to picnic benches to sample fresh fruit, orange juice and bagels. DD and I grab a bagel and some fruit and chat with the other moms. For this "meal", I have only had to pay $5.00 each.

After the "meal", we must dash to make our mani/pedi appointments in La Jolla. If you have ever been to La Jolla, you know there is tons of traffic going down Torrey Pines Blvd and parking is never easy. Luckily, the parking fairy is again looking down and sprinkles her pixie dust. We find a parking (free) space right across from the Salon which is above the Hard Rock Cafe.

Two blissful hours later and over $100 poorer, we emerge full rejuvenated but hungry!! Off to Zanzibar in Pacific Beach for a fabulous Asian Salad for me and a Mango Chicken Salad for Samantha.

Reinvigorated, Sam drops me back at the hotel so I can rest up for a late Thai dinner with her and her friend Jocelyn. So here I am typing away and getting ready for a quick browse of the DIS before I take a short power nap.

My life as a Sorority Mom continues with a brunch tomorrow. Will their be hot water????

Our friends went on MS for the first time on a trip with us. My family didn't want to go on (only DH has been on it before and he said once was enough, which to me means, I would not enjoy it). About an hour later (the wait was 10 minutes) we were searching for them in the ride exit area and still could not find them. Another 30 min went by and we saw some woman on a walkie talkie telling the other person to breathe! She heard us trying to find our friends and told us that the ride had broken down...her DH was stuck on it. Our friends were not in his capsule, but that explained where they were. I think they ended up being stuck in the capsule in the dark for over an hour and then about 20 minutes with the lights on before they were able to be removed. By the time they got off, both parents were pretty white (and ready for a DOD! )and the kids were just chatty kathy's talking about how cool that was! Their "gift" for experiencing that...fast passes to go back on MS...which they quickly gave away

As long as we wouldn't be moving, I would be Ok. I suffer from horrible motion sickness, so this ride, mild or not, is not an option for me.

If we are sitting in the dark, I would probably just nap! A body at rest...

Yup, busy day....but fun! And I'm so proud of myself for going to the gym 3 days in a row! Won't go tomorrow because Tyler and I have lots of yardwork to do. Supposed to be in the 60s tomorrow and sunny all day, so we'll be pulling weeds away from the flowers and plants that are just starting to come up! WOOHOO! And there are a few piles of leaves that I didn't get raked up before snow came....I saw them today in the back yard and heard them calling my name. Yuck. But what a great excuse to be outside!

Hey everyone! I just finished my vacation planning for DL with the vacation planners. That is one of my very favorite things about DL that WDW does not have.

John, I am SOOOOOO Jealous!!!!! Give Sophia a big hug from me!!!

We are going to Las Vegas Tuesday for a conference we are in charge of. I hate that place. I know its fun and all and everyone loves it, but because of all the smoke and my lovely asthma, I can't breath there, so I never feel good. Bummer.


Anyway, feel like the walking dead after last nights pageant and I have to go have the big fight with my laundry. It has such attitude just sitting there.

Kim...we were in vegas in January, and the smoking laws had changed. We were able to do some gambling and leave the casino without smelling like smoke! If I remember correctly, you are not allowed to smoke in restaurants any more, and are only allowed to smoke when actually gambling. I really enjoyed the effects of the new laws...since I love Vegas, but always leave with a sore throat and cough.

didn't watch the pageant...how did she do?

I am right there with you with the anti-smoke thing! I am so allergic to cigarette smoke that it has ruined many an evening for us before the laws came into effect in California!

Glad to hear about Vegas! I would love to go there again in the near future!!

It was rainy here in the desert yesterday (YEAH) and still overcast this morning, but the sun is trying to peak out.

More Sports Talk: The one thing I CAN sit through forever is equestrian events. Even dressage (which to some folks is like watching paint dry), especially if it's my baby sister competing. However it is nerve wracking to watch a loved one jumping. Pretty dangerous sport and thankfully Peg's come through her years with just a wrecked up finger (THAT was a fun day....not!).

......hmmmm...still on the DIS......still not doing chores...........

I'll sit and watch equestrian events with you any day!! I love it too!!

Morning, er afternoon all!
Gorgeous day here...but I've been inside doing laundry all day...and there is still plenty covering the floor. So am I the only nerd who has a cruise box already going? I have bought several outfits for the girls are in there....highlighters, markers, pirate bandanas, eye patch....the list goes on and on.

John - how cool is that? Now which DIS'er was it?

And YEAH, how 'bout them GATORS???!!!!

Way to go boys!! Now bring it tomorrow!! (at 2:40, in case anyone is interested) and I have a feeling Dennis and Angie may be on the other side this time!

Nope, you are not alone...I have a drawer in my office started...my fish extender , small gifts for the girls from Target that were POTC and a few other little things. I am sure that by next May it will be able to fill an entire suitcase!

it's really a nice "intro" a mile run. 6 or so bike and a bit of a swim....if it gets me off my duff for the day??? --- all is good!!
My father is big into racing, he does Ironman races and tries his hardest to get us involved. DH ran track in college, so he enjoys the running aspect but I went to a performing arts high school for dance and have drilled into my brain how horrid running is for your achilles tendons!!!

I used to compete in triathalons...did the danskin one many times. They now run that one at WDW (or the did) and that was my goal, but I never made it. Have a great time with it, I loved them. Now, my new goal is to do the 3day Avon Breast cancer walk...but finding the time to train is crazy. Then there is the 2500.00 that you have to raise to compete! Someday......

That would be it for me...one hour, in the dark, on MS. We opted not to take that ride but what most people don't know is since HP had a lot to do with the making of MS, they have a special lounge for HP employees...there's a secret entrance near the entrance to MS, you have to show your employee ID. Once upstairs it's a cool, comfy area with lots of couches and internet access. The have tinted windows where you can look down at the people in line for MS and they offer refreshements and snack items (which was awesome given we were there in hot, humid JUNE!!!). They have two phone booth looking areas where you go in and can record a video that makes it look like you're on the moon or in space (depending on what background you pick) and you can email the video to friends back home. They also have TV monitors where you can watch people taking off and arriving back from the ride. It's funny to see what people look like upon their return...some look excited and others look plain sick!!! Anyway, that's a little known secret that many people are unaware of....

That sounds awesome....a break from the crowds to relax (and people watch!)
