I tried....no answer......must still be out with her date and have cell turned off. Maybe he took her to the bar to celebrate with the rest of the world.

Oh, Holly, the rest of the world isn't at the bar! Some of us just put kids to bed because DH is working (Late AND on a Saturday!) or watching basketball or well...ok...out celebrating St. Patrick's day....sorry, it started out so nicely...

My brother in law once did an act with Robin Williams before he became famous. He was the ventriloquist and Robin was the "dummy".

WOW! That's so cool! I'll bet your brother in law has some great stories of how nutty Robin is. Any video of their act?

Shazbot!!!

(Ok, DH just made it home and informed me that he was Mork in some play in 8th grade! Truly a renaissance man!)

Ok...*he's* home...heading downstairs to watch a Netflix. Watched Slings and Arrows (volume 1...some Canadian series...LOVED it!) this week, but what we have left is Tears of the Sun (Bruce Willis) and Stargate. Hmm...I wonder who put those on the list...

Later, all...good luck with the beer Holly...

Happy St. Pats Day everyone!! Olivia and I are dressed completely in green. Poor DH is spending his entire day off trying to dig us out, as the driveway is covered in several inches of ICE.

We did get to Friendlys for lunch though, and ice cream. I got pistacio, which I love, but also because it's GREEN.

OOh I love Friendly's Happy Ending sundaes - mint choc chip ice cream w/hot fudge ( we dont' have Friendly's in CA, no Cracker Barrel's either...)

We were going to watch old movies then decided to watch Rome, the HBO series espiodes - with our On Demand Cable.

:surfweb:

DH loves that show! Unfortunately he missed most of the first season - discovered it On Demand this season. I think we'll have to sign back up for Netflix so he can watch the beginning.

Thanks, but no beer for me.....way too late at night to have beer anyway. I'd fall asleep in the middle of my first beer! :rotfl:

Once again I took a loong time posting and lost half of my quotes.

Memorial Day which was originally called Decoration in the US is a celebration of those who have fallen in service of our country. It was established in 1868 to honor those soldiers who had fallen during the American Civil War. It was recognized by all the Northern States by 1890. However it was not recognized by the Southern States (who had a seperate holiday) until after WW1 when the holiday changed to a holdiay honoring all Americans fighting in any war.

If you want to read more about the history, here is a website:

The first time we took dd to WDW, on our way to the airport we did some shopping at the Florida Mall and we hit the Memorial day sales, and when we asked, no one was able to explain to us what they celebrated that day, so thank you for illustrating us!

Before I start PMing for the active disers on the list, let me make sure of what info we want.

1. Dis Name
2. First and Last names of all people in stateroom
3. Stateroom number or GTY
4. Gifting, yes or no
5. Fish extenders or other available
6. email addresses (someone mentioned we should get these)

Anything else we should add? What else do we need to know? We might as well get everything updated all at once.

Ok, so from what I read in this and another post, we should wait for you to contact us, right?

I am in for High Tea. I would really like to do it and I have heard that it really isn't something that most men would enjoy so I would rather go with a bunch of female friends than one DH that is sulking because he was made to go to keep me company.:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Lemon Chicken and Rice Soup
Serves 4

6 cups low sodium chicken broth
1 T vegetable oil
2 boneless, skinless chic breasts (6 to 8 ounces), patted dry
Salt and Pepper
1 med onion, minced
2 med carrots, peeled and sliced into 1/4" rounds
1 t minced fresh thyme
3/4 c long grain rice
2 T minced fresh parsley
3 T fresh lemon juice, strained
4 large egg yolks

1. Bring broth to boil in a large saucepan over high heat. Cover and set aside. Heat oil in Dutch over aover med high heat until just smoking. Season chic w/salt and pepper and cook until lightly browned on both sides, about 2 min per side. Transfer to plate. Lower heat to med low, add onion, and cook until lightly browned, 3 - 5 min. Stir in hot borth, using wooden spoon to scrape browned bits from pan. Add carrots, thyme, rice, and chic. Cover and simmer over low heat until chic is cooked through, about 10 min.

2. Transfer chic to cutting board and continue simmering soup, covered until rice is tender, about 10 min. Cut chic into bite sized pieces. Off heat, stir in chic and parsley.

3. Whisk lemon juice and yolks together in bowl. Whisking constantly, gradually (very slowly) ladle 1 c hot soup into egg mixture, then stir egg mixture back into soup. Rehead over low heat for 1 min. Season with salt and pepper. Serve.

The key is to super slowly temper (add) the hot soup into the egg/lemon otherwise you'll basically scramble the eggs and that is really not good! Also, if you like it super lemony feel free to add more lemon juice at the appropriate time.

Enjoy!!!!

That sounds yummy! thank you for the recipe.

It never ceases to amaze me the difference there is between our two countries on how they treat their Servicemen and women, and military veterans.

In the US there seems to be a general respect for them, as well as financial and other benefits. You even have Memorial Day, a public holiday, in recognition of their contribution to your society. I've read about businessmen giving up their 1st class seats on planes to Servicemen, or signing them into airport lounges. During my most recent visit, as I boarded a plane, there was a soldier taking his seat and the man next to him thanked him for what he was doing for their country.

I'm sad to say that it is completely different in the UK. :sad2:

In Mexico it is different too. Most people who join the Military is because of hunger, as a friend of my father once said, it was the only way he could be assured of eating three meals a day!

Legal minimum (I think) is now 20 days plus the 8 statutory Bank (Public) Holidays.

My organisation gives 25 days standard plus an extra 5 days after 5 years, so I get 30 days. Plus 8 Bank Holidays and 2.5 'privilege' days (extra days added to certain Bank Holiday periods). So 40.5 days total.

Plus we work flexi-time. Do you guys have that? I'm contracted to work 37 hours per week but have times during the day when I have to be in work ('core time') and times between which I can start and finish ('flexi-time'), eg I can start work any time 0700-1000, must attend 1000-1200, can take lunch (30 mins minimum, 2 hours max) between 1200-1400, must attend 1400-1530, can finish any time 1530-1800.

It works on a 4-week flexi-sheet, during which time you can take up to 2 full days (or 4 half-days) off using the hours you have already accumulated. Or you can be up to 1.5 days in debit. There are limits on how many hours credit or debit can be carried out to the next flexi period. And it all has to fit in with colleagues/bosses and the needs of the business in your area.

I generally try to have at least a day in credit in case I need an odd day off for something. And if I'm planning a vacation then I'll save my flexi so that I don't have to use as many leave days, eg 2 weeks usually only costs me 8 days leave.

It gives employees some flexibility, and saves employers paying overtime.
And I love it! :) Really missed it when I've worked places that don't do it.

Wow, you are so lucky!

This will be a sad Easter for us since mom passed away last December. Amy has not yet learned all of the food, and certainly no bread that mom used to make with the egg in the center. Food was so much a part of our lives.

Very different from mom's . . . ours had no meat, just the broth, lemon, eggs, and rice. Also no other vegetables. There is one restaurant in town that makes it as good as mom's, the Agora. I would take it to her in the hospital last year, and she LOVED it.

:grouphug:

Yesterday night the very good friends of our friends were killed by someone who attacked them from another car with firearms. Apparently 45 caskets were found inside their car. As of now it looks like it was a revenge (the both come from very rich families, Peralta and Lopez Portillo) because of the way they were killed.

They leave a 4 year old boy and an almost 2 year old baby girl. My heart is breaking for them.

That is absolutely tragic and frightening.

We will say a prayer for them.
