Well, you're getting through the replies Karen!!!

[COLOR="Red"]Good morning, Marilyn!

Yes, finally finished catching up. Since we were wine tasting all day (I know, poor me,) I wasn't able to start my catching up till 11:30 tonight! But the great thing about being up here in Bodega is that I can just sit and read or DIS and I don't have as many "real live chores" to interupt me!!:laundy:

I did bring some pictures up with the CD's so that I can load them in the laptop and post them on the website.

Can't get away from not doing something, or is it nothing...!!

Watched Jay Leno as well tonight and he had on Queen Latifah and Gerard Butler. It was so funny I woke my DH up from his "nap" on the couch because I was laughing so hard!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

The daffodils were unbelievable today in the wine country. Almost 70 degrees and sunny with little white puffy clouds. Still some snow on Mt. Saint Helena as well. Just a stellar photo op day~ and the wine wasn't bad either!! :upsidedow

Karen

Well, time to get a move on this morning - I could Dis all day, but usually there is no-one on this thread!!!

Have a great day Karen.

2 glasses of wine and I'm asleep!:rotfl:

Fortunately, (or not) I have a pretty high tolerance to alcohol. I can't take very many meds though. Low tolerance to most of the meds that say "can cause drowsiness"!

I'll be toddeling off to bed soon. It's 2:36 am here!:surfweb:

Again!!

Hi all...I'm spitting feathers o may I please vent?...

My dd Becky has had a trip arranged with the college for months now. A group of Alevel students were due to go to Russia in 2 weeks to attend the model United Nations. Schools from all over the world are involved in this; they are given countries to represent and then debate resolutions etc just like the real thing...the students have worked hard to prepare and were really up for it.

Some time ago the tutor arranging it went to the embassy with all the passports to get their Visa (he had an appointment) and was told when he arrived they couldnt be issued after all, he'd have to go home and post them as there were too many to deal with (?)

Then when he sent them in, they told him the forms were old forms and need updating.....then he sent them all off again, and then TODAY he heard they can't be issued as they'd gone up £60 each!!!!!! This means (given they can take up to 2weeks) they are now too late as they should be leaving in 2 weeks for Russia

The kids are all really bummed (as are the staff)....Becky has been out and bought lots of warm weather gear for Russia which has cost her a fortune. What a wasted opportunity for them all........To say we're not happy with the Embassy is an understatement!

Sorry just had to get rid of my frustrat:mad: ion

They must be very upset. Is there no way this can go ahead for them?

John-that is so cool! What a great Greek name...Kosta Koufos. My uncle is named Costa (Costantine). Do you think Kosta will be recruited for the Greek team?

I think there is a good chance!

I love all the suggestions for books and authors. I belong to a book club, so I am usually reading whatever the club has picked, currently "The Innocent Man" by John Grisham, although I haven't started it yet. We just finished "Keeping Faith" by Jodi Picoult (sp?), which I liked, but not as much as "My Sister's Keeper." Anyway, I seem to be the oddball in my book club because I seem to keep picking unusual books that no one else really "gets" or likes. My recent picks were "Wicked" and "The Time Traveller's Wife" (which I really, really liked). The reaction from most of my club was "it was weird" or "I don't read science fiction." Whatever. I thought the point of a book club was to expand your horizons a bit and flex those brain muscles. I'm glad to see such a wide array of interests here, and I have lots of new books to add to my must-read list.

Which is exactly why I have never joined a book club. My tastes are all over the board, and can't be confined to any certain genre . . . well, I DON'T read romance novels!:rotfl2:

I have slowed down my compulsion, though and have not filled our Bodega Bay Beach house with baskets as we rent it out through vacation rentals. The only thing Longaberger here (I'm in Bodega right now) is the Heritage large mixing bowl in blue! I love their pottery too!

Karen

OK, for all of us Easterners, tell us about Bodega Bay so that we can eat our hearts out . . . make sure to post photos too - sounds beautiful.

BTW - read on the net about the "Amber Room" too, and it is another fascinating real history tale. I will have to go and get that book soon to see how Berry has spiced it up.

We do Model UN here too - the kids get to go to somewhere different in the state each year for a statewide competition. I could just imagine if they got to go to Russia!

What a shame thought that beaurocracy can ruin something so worthwhile!

Ok, I need to catch up, I need to join the lose it cruiser thread, I need a glass (or two) of wine from Karen's wine shop, I need a new pair of shoes from Norsdrom (sorry John Jhalkias- don't mean to start a shoe talk again), I need this cruise to be sooner!

Spent the whole day in ICU. My friend (diagnosis last Thursday w/cancer) has too many clots in her arms and neck area. :sad2: Her husband has the flu so can't visit and they don't let children of course in ICU so she can't see her little girl either. Ugg. Messy, chaotic communication as we traveled from radiology to ICU to cath/radiology lab. She decided to do the infertilty testing and post-pone chemo and start radiation first. I'm being supportive but scared about her choice - this type of cancer (non-hodgkins, large B cell) protocol is chemo first. But she really wants another baby and feels the IVF thing is her only chance. But hormone shots? I don't know. Just seems like she should focus every bit of energy fighting this cancer (and right now blood clots). Thanks for listening...no need to respond- I know you are all out there  now back to John's favorite subject::goodvibes

Maybe I'll go to Neiman Marcus for a pair of shoes tomorrow. Wish it was time for a last call sale! Wait a minute...I have to save for this cruise so maybe I'll just dream of Jimmy Choo tonight! :cloud9:

Ok - off to catch up. Lisa

Oh, Lisa, it's such a scary, frightening time for you. Your friend is so lucky to have you. Hang in there.

Carolyn

Okay, the next 6 extenders are going out priority mail today. :cool1: Deb (EllaEnchanted), Marilyn (granmaz), Jackie (ibouncetoo), Carolyn (clynne) and Tina (tlb2864 gets 2) be watching they should be arriving soon. This has taken care of all the ones that we have received addresses and payments for. We still have some on our list that we do not have one or the other or both from and they have been PM'd since hopefully by next Saturday we will finally be caught up on all the requests we have so far.:thumbsup2

Enjoy decorating :artist: everybody. We are definately looking forward to seeing how everyone has personalized them.::yes::

Gregroy Maguire, author of Wicked and Son of a Witch has a new book out called "Lost". My friend in New York sent it to me for my birthday as she and I went to see the premiere of Wicked in SF. I really prefered the musical to the book, the book was so dark and I hated the ending. He writes wonderfully though, and really pulls you in.

I hope to start the new one soon!

Karen

Thanks for the heads up. I did have a bit of a Gregory Maquire binge after reading Wicked. I read Mirror, Mirror and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister shortly after. Lost sounds interesting...I've put it on THE LIST.

Woohoo, thanks!!! Really looking forward to receiving this. I actually have some ideas for decorating it and I am so craft challenged I am surprised!!!

It will be lovely to have something for the cruise as everything seems to have died down a bit for now. I know it is 14 months away, but I love talking about it!!!

We have a lunar eclipse tonight that you on the East side of the US should be able to see too. Starts 9.30 here with full eclipse around 10.30 onwards.

Another book that I have sitting, waiting for me to find the time to read it is "The Memory Keepers Daughter" by Kim Edwards. I read a synopsis of it on my Borders email page and it sounded really good so I picked up at Sam's club. It sounds like a good "book club" book that might appeal to everyone.

Karen

I'd be interested in your thoughts after you read this one. I read it in my aforementioned winter binge...not sure how I "feel" about it.

Thank you!!!! I am so not the creative type, though...may have to put DD5 in charge.

Re: Longaberger

My mom gave me a really big Longaberger basket to put mail into about 10 years ago. I had no idea what "Longaberger" was at the time and at a garage sale I was just to scale down and someone saw it and offered $5 so I said sure. :scared1:

A couple years went by and my Mom asked me where the basket was and I told her and she was  !

Now I've gotten hooked and my SIL always gives me one (the smaller ones) for my birthday. I love my kleenix box I have in our guest bathroom! Unfortunately, everytime my mom comes over and uses the bathroom she is taken back to the bad memory!
