The Path Between the Seas is a very interesting read before crossing or visiting the Panama Canal, it sure gives the reader another perspective and a true appreciation, don´t you think?

I read it back in october before my trip to Panama and loved it, even if at times it was a difficult read for me because of all the names, so sometimes I had to go back in the book and recheck who was who.

It's on the table in my TO READ pile(s)! We bought a children's book about the Panama Canal and a really neat book full of historical pictures taken during the building of the canal, too. Really neat to look at!

II'll have to pick that up. Has anyone found a school aged appropriate book on the PC? I'd love for my oldest to start reading about it (he's 8). Last night on the history channel I happened across a program called "Modern Marvels" and it was all about the PC. Very cool, we TIVO'd and will watch it with the kids.

I should have read ALL the posts before posting! The children's book we found is The Panam Canal, by Elizabeth Mann. Haven't read it, yet, but it looks like it has a lot of information and I like the illustrations. The book of historical photos we found is The Building of the Panama Canal in Historic Photographs, by Ulrich Keller. The introduction is FULL of info, but would probably be a pretty dry read for an 8 year old!

How did your mom´s family end in the US after living in South America?

When she was 23 they sent her here from Uruguay to scope it out and she had a job waiting for her in Aristotle Onassis' office in NY. After she was here for a while, they decided to return to Greece (from Uruguay) instead and she had met my father at that point and decided to stay. My Uncle did not return to Greece with them but instead went to Australia, so that kinda stunk for my mom. He had been with the merchant marine and traveled to Australia and decided to live there-he loved it so much. My grandparents stayed in Greece until their deaths.

On a short break from my meeting in Baltimore. At the Tremont Plaza Hotel. Nice place. Sun is shining!

Headed out tomorrow for my 24 hour therapy session at WDW. Meeting up with DISBOARD friends that we sailed with through the PC Canal from May 2005.

It is amazing the amount of new lifelong friends we have made from the disboards and getting to know each other and sailing together.

I found this one in our 'book exchange bookcase' in the breakroom at work...now I have to ransack the shelves to see if there are any more of hers (why buy if you don't have to?). Funny story...I was staring at that bookcase a few weeks ago and somebody came in and said "Can't decide what to read?" and I said "No, can't find one I haven't read already!"

You sure got your wish for nice weather when you came to visit Baltimore. You must have brought the good weather. It was 65 degrees and sunny here most of the day!!!

Purchasing a case (or two) of water on the ship was not outrageous, but I really miss my Dr. Pepper. So we always have Happy Limo stop at a store and we pick it up for WDW, it would be nice to do it for the ship as well.

It's called a medium market basket, but for the Jelly Belly event they put a red and yellow band around the edge (jelly belly colors) and "tacks" that are jelly belly logos in place of the usuall nail tacks.

The one that I won, is similar in color but quite a bit larger and has a single handle.
I'll have my DD take a picture of it with her digital, or I will have my pictures developed on Monday when we get back from barrel tasting and I will pm you with it. It is really cool! The best part is that the basket is signed by the members of the family that were present at the event.

I'm sure I could ebay it for a very hefty amount, but it is just so neat and I am such a fan of thier baskets!

I am off to bed now! Have a great day!! I probably won't check in again until Satuday night/Sunday morning as we are at an event at Belvedere Winery tomorrow night and then dinner at Ravenous in Healdsburg!

This is too cool, I should have asked when you mentioned it earlier in the week, but I wasn't thinking....My neighbor is a dealer (yes they are like drugs) I had to halt myself after the 7th year of Easter Baskets as I can't keep storing them...my office is longabergered, my kitchen is longabergered, my beach house (we had one in Half Moon Bay from 2001-2003) was longabergered...those are being stored for when we find the real house in Half Moon Bay (we've been looking for 18 months to move over there)

I hear you on this. I 'finished off' some Girl Scout cookies last night so they'd be 'out of the way' when I 'start' my healthy eating. What kind of logic is that I could put on another 5 lbs just 'getting things out of the way' !! .......

ah ha..that means you might want another box....thin mints, or shortbreads???? Molly has a selling goal of 1,000 boxes (she is at about 800 so far) I'm her troop leader. Yes I'm tired of these darn cookies, but that doesn't stop me from trying to help her peddle them.

Off to get Molly from school. Paul (DH) and Wilson (DS) played hookey from school today and went go-karting....my boys and there cars are almost as bad as me and my Disney....I said almost....

I was a Longaberger addict for a while, but I am proud to say I have been purchase free for about a year. The only thing I really would like to do is my linen closet in baskets, but 1. they are really expensive and 2. what would I do when DH was traveling?!

I like Playa La Ropa the best, definetly it is much bether than Las Gatas and the Ixtapa beach.
I remember when we first went to Zihuatanejo that they didn´t even have a decent grocery store, and since we stayed at our friend´s and my family´s apartments and cooked breakfast and sometimes dinner too (lots of little kids), we had to bring all our groceries from Mexico City.
Did you go to "La Sirena Gorda" for dinner? If you haven´t been there, don´t miss it next trip. It is in the town of Zihuatanejo, so you will need a cab to take you there. They have shellfish tacos, yummy! My favorite are the shrip and bacon. I hope they still are there.
The Ruben´s Hamburgers are very good too, but I think that they are not longer at their original location close to where you were staying, I think that now they only keep the Ixtapa location.

We didn't travel far from the beach this trip, but next year we hope to spend a few days at a hotel in downtown Zih to experience more of the town. I'll try and hit you up for more tips before we go

One more book to add to my growing list after last night and today. DD (8) is a big reader and she would love to read a book about the canal before we go. Of course, I still haven't told them we are going, probably won't until christmas It is hard to keep it a secret though. Maybe I will give her that book under the tree.

I liked the The Time Traveller's Wife, but I was often very confused...Historian was good! Really liked The Book Thief (Markus Zusak), the Katherine Neville books (esp The Eight), The Rule of Four (Ian Caldwell) and have been strangely attracted to Wicked and Son of a Witch. Love Dan Brown, too!

Our DD has been home sick the last 2 days with possible strep throat. Always throws my sork off too, but she does come first. My DSis helps out and will have her over even when she is sick as she has her own room at my DSis' house and can rest in there. I'm so lucky to have my DSis so close by, really is helpful since we don't have any other family around, (or still living in the case of our parents.

for your daughter to feel better soon! Tyler felt better after a day and a half on antibiotics. Strong stuff!

I haven´t been to Zihuatanejo in the last few years, but lots of friends have, so I will look out for great places for you to visit.

I think that Playa la Ropa is as close as you want to get to staying in downtown Zihuatanejo, at least until my last visit, it wasn´t a pretty town to walk around and the good hotels are either on Playa la Ropa or Ixtapa.
