I got a phone call from the school district attendence personnel and I was told that I could withdraw my daughter and then re-enroll her after we come back. There are no requirements that she be in class any particular number of days to be promoted to the next grade, if she is passing when we withdraw then the absence will not effect her promotion.

The lady that called me today even indicated that this has happened before and said that the only possible fly in the ointment would be that my the state laws could change and that might change the situation.

So, I will now talk to the principal, who says that she will help me in any way she can and see how to procede.

Now on to the high school principal for my son's situation. I think that the high school has more leeway in excepting abscenses.

Just trying to catch up a little bit today.

It's actually a nice day here today - fairly warm (relatively speaking only) and the sun is shining. Tomorrow we are supposed to get snow and freezing rain just in time for afternoon rush hour. Not looking forward to that at all.

Used to have Krispy Kreme donuts here but they've closed most of the stores. We have Tim Horton's instead. Didn't actually like the Krispy Kreme donuts but since I'm not supposed to eat donuts at all this was a good thing. Too sweet for my taste.

Fiona

Think if we bring Timmy's coffee with us on the ship, they will brew it for us? I heard that one Canuck was taking packets of Timmy's down for the Canadian cast members, thought that was a great idea, will pack a box for them myself this cruise.

Ok - finally getting down to start getting all the info together for the bracelets.

If you haven't sent me a pm yet, and you'd like some let me know how many you need and size (small, med, large). My goal for this week is to get some cost ideas down.

Need also ideas as to what to have on the bracelets.....do we want something said on both sides (if so, what do you think we should have on there?) I was thinking on 1 side the dates, 2nd side Ship of Thieves DM (or something like that) with maybe a skull and crossbones symbol. I think they will only allow up to 20 characters per side....so we may have to do some tweaking.

Once we get closer, I'll probably be asking for addresses to mail the bracelets out to....don't send that now, please....I'll let you know what I need closer to that time.

Hope all of this makes sense....

Sounds good to me. How do we know what sizes S, M and L fit? I like the idea you had with the dates on one side and the other side with the Ship of Thieves logo.

Let's just hope the laws don't get even more restrictive. I hope just like you said that the high school is more accepting and not so restrictive in the absence arena.

Don't feel bad, we are grandparents to 7 boys from 20 to 2 (1 set of twins) and are expecting our eighth grandchild by March 30th. We got a very pleasent surprise with this one, though, we are having our first girl.princess: Love our boys but are very excited about having the girl. I am sure she will be spoiled.

Carol

Carol, we have 4 grandsons and one granddaughter and yes, she is spoiled. She spent the night with us last Thurs so I could take her to a dental appt on Friday and of course we had to go shopping Thurs evening. Well, we did need milk:confused3 ....4 tops, 2 pair of jeans and a pack of socks later...:lmao: :lmao: She is 11 and fun to be with.:dance3:

I don't know how the STAR compares to the WASL (WA state test), but ours is usually done for the 2 weeks immediately following spring break. That has always meant it was over by the first week in May. Of course next year they moved spring break forward a week which moved the WASL forward! :headache: I have already talked with the school secretary and the principal about trying to ensure that the 4th graders are done by the 8th. We were hoping to take the red eye out on the 8th and spend the 9th in florida getting ready (ok, get one quick day in at WDW:banana: ) . I won't know an answer for a bit, and luckily plane tickets won't be ready for purchase until end of june. If they aren't done until the 9th...would anyone else think it is cutting it too close to fly the red eye from seattle on the 9th and land at orlando around 8am on the 10th?

Does anyone else's kid's school think you are crazy asking these kind of questions already?! :rotfl:

If it is a direct flight you might be ok unless a storm comes in a shuts down SeaTac. That would just make me so nervous.

Woke up to about 3 inches of snow this morning. :sad2: Not too bad though, our house is at 600 feet and the snow was at about 500 feet, so once I got down to the "valley floor" the roads were clear, just a few flurries on the way to work.
I'm home early today because we are going to pick up our new motorhome! :dance3: :cheer2: :yay: :yay: Gotta go buy sheets too, oh and an egg cooker. We are so excited. This is our retirement dream! 13 months from today we are outta here!

We learned a long time ago only to fly direct when possible with little kids. But I agree, the thought of flying in that am makes me so nervous. there really isn't any other choice living out here though....either red eye thurs, all day flight friday or red eye friday and the last 2 mean I need to pull dd from school on friday. Here's hoping the WASL is done on Thursday.

That does sound exciting Angie. Where are you planning on visiting with the motorhome?

We woke up to a dusting here in WA (about 1000 ft elevation) and it is still snowing but not sticking. The girls woke up excited about the idea of no school:rotfl: and weren't too happy when I told them they had school.

congrats on the new motorhome and being so close to your dream!

Well, I was asleep but our Marine men must be doing some practicing down at Camp Pendleton because they're bombing away and it's freaking me out! We live FAR away (45+ miles) from there but you can feel the reverberations in my home! If I open the door I can vaguely hear it. They're preparing for something, not sure if it's the new troop deployments or what but the last two weeks they have been very active. We've lived here for 6 years and we only heard it one other time about 4 years ago. At that time we called the police department and they confirmed it. My friend lives in San Clemente (which is much closer to Pendleton) and she said they see the helos and hear the machine guns firing right now. Man, I've never heard it like this, it's really scarey, I can only imagine how our soldiers feel in Iraq. I don't want to wake up my husband, but I cannot sleep now.:sad2: Okay, happy thoughts....:dance3:

Sound of freedom, Lisa!! We hear it almost constantly and, yes, it was REALLY active this weekend. As I type, I can hear (feel!) a helicopter overhead. Sorry that you lost sleep and I imagine if you don't hear it all the time, it would be scary. We hear and feel it so much that it makes me smile. (Ok, so our oldest DS is now a Marine and we are especially proud...a little biased.) We're even pretty good at differentiating between activity at Pendleton and earthquakes!

Hope it's better now....

I checked out the websites because I was a little bored today and I think I found the loophole you are looking for. The child/ren need to attend a minimum of 180 days (total days in school less abcenses, holidays, etc. Actual seat time in the class) if you kids have hit that amount, then they have met the state requirements, so how could they be truant? That is the state law that ALL school districts have to meet. They can schedule more, but the state only requires a minimum of 180 days. And yes that was the state of Tennessee!!!

I think it's good you're communicating with everyone. Even if the laws change, "they" will all know that you've been trying to work within the system for OVER A YEAR. That really has to count for something. Good to hear your DD can still advance under the current rules.

Good luck at the high school!!

Thank you everyone for the pixie dust and thoughts. My grandfather passed away this afternoon and is finally not suffering any longer.

I appreciate everyones thoughts and prayers and whatnot they helped me get through all this.

The winner of the pool at my party got 15! A couple of us got 14, but she got the lead early and kept it all night. None of us picked The Departed for best picture, however. Did you? Did you pick Alan Arkin? That was a big surprise! Do you think the release of Norbit killed Eddie Murphy's chances?

Didn't pick The Departed. I had Babel, which I still haven't seen, but all the earlier awards went to it. I also didn't have Alan Arkin. Actually, I can't remember who I picked (I think Eddie Murphy). And I thought one of the Dreamgirls songs would surely win that category, so totally missed that when An Inconvenient Truth won. We always just guess wildly on the more obscure categories. Got lucky on some of them. I don't know what happened with Eddie Murphy, but I supposed Norbit didn't help any. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
