I got a phone call from the school district attendence personnel and I was told that I could withdraw my daughter and then re-enroll her after we come back. There are no requirements that she be in class any particular number of days to be promoted to the next grade, if she is passing when we withdraw then the absence will not effect her promotion.
The lady that called me today even indicated that this has happened before and said that the only possible fly in the ointment would be that my the state laws could change and that might change the situation.
So, I will now talk to the principal, who says that she will help me in any way she can and see how to procede.
Now on to the high school principal for my son's situation. I think that the high school has more leeway in excepting abscenses.
