Loose before you cruise....please post the address again.

My DH and DS17 and I have been dieting since the 2nd week of Jan (did not want this to be a New Years Resolution). DH had lost 16 pounds total goal of 42. DS17 has lost 10 pounds total goal of 31 and I have lost 8 pounds total goal 22 pounds. So we are on our way......need to pick up the exercise though.

We are doing a 6 week Bible study in preparation for Lent. We are studing Disciplines. Last Monday night we studied prayer. Last night, we studied Fasting. Oh my......is seems the only people who fast these days do it for weight loss and not the Glory of God. I need to pray on this one. I am almost afraid to go the study next week.

Is that Richard Foster's "Celebration of Discipline"? I just finished leading an adult Sunday school class on that book.

I haven't checked in the past couple of days. My parents are still without power, so they came up here and stayed with us yesterday. They headed back home today because of some meetings, etc. they needed to attend, and we are hoping their power has been restored. If not, they may be back tonight.

The kids got a snow day yesterday. DS9 has been hoping for one all winter, and now that he got one all he can do is fret about having to go to school an extra day at the end of the school year.

How on earth do any of you get DH to join in the Oscar excitement? Getting them to dress up and watch?! :confused3 Mine whines "Oh No. Not another #&*#( award show. UGH. See you later, I am going on line!"
So, what is the trick?

DH loves the Oscars as much as I do. Now DS9 has joined in. He wanted to stay up for the whole thing, but I made him go to bed and taped it for him. I won the pool, got 14 of the 24 categories. Just beat out DH, which made him :headache: Just kidding. But he loves movies, and gets to lots more of the arthouse flicks than I do because he usually goes to the movies while he's traveling. BTW, I highly recommend History Boys if you can catch it anywhere. If you're a Harry Potter fan, you can see Richard Griffiths deliver an amazing performance. Nothing at all like Uncle Vernon.

All the best! I am sure you will do it. See you on the LBUC thread too!!!
I'll be there soon! I just can't seem to manage both threads while at work. Darn guys keep interrupting me, expecting me to do work for them?! What's up with that? Can't they see I'm trying to DIS? :rotfl2:

Work so gets in the way of everything!!:rotfl:

Does anyone know what kind of shore excursions we can expect on this cruise?

Well, we have been to Aruba three times before. If my memory serves me right there was snorkeling, snorkeling and snorkeling and then a couple of land tours. You can easily do the whole island in one day. There is a lighthouse and then an arch (but I think it broke and fell in the ocean?) and a really neat church and a beach where alot of people go. The downtown area is small, not alot of shopping, but there are casinos and bars and all the typical stuff.

Curacao-go to their website. Robert went scuba diving with Scott and Lynn and I went downtown and went shopping. It was a blast. Oh-great buys on SHOES!!! there. Bought three pairs of really cute sandals for about 6 bucks a piece. Probably would have spent 30 at least in the US for them. My parents went on a cave tour of some kind. Some people went on a 4 x 4 tour and if I remember correctly it was quite muddy as it had rained.

Acapulco-we went on the shot over jet which was a blast. Did 360's on this river and they took pictures of the whole thing, so of course we had to buy the CD at the end. Alot went to the cliff divers. We had done it before. If you have been once in your lifetime that is enough. If the divers were young and handsome...well that would be another story!

In Cabo we went on a private ATV tour that our friend Ken arranged and a bunch of us (about 14-16) went on. It was great fun. There was also beach excursions, kayaking, etc., etc.

I think that's about what we did last time.

The winner of the pool at my party got 15! A couple of us got 14, but she got the lead early and kept it all night. None of us picked The Departed for best picture, however. Did you? Did you pick Alan Arkin? That was a big surprise! Do you think the release of Norbit killed Eddie Murphy's chances?

I've been diving in Bonaire and it was great so I'll bet the snorkeling in Aruba is great, too! That's where I'll be!:fish:

Lisa,

I know that you are getting tons of advice and input, and you have probably gone to bed, but...

I had severe endometriosis, very different from cancer and chemo, but I was told that I would need to have an endometrial ablation and that it would be equivelent to sterility. Since my life had been put on hold because of the illness, I opted to have the surgery and put my trust in God that this was the right thing to do and to get my life on track. I was 32. The original physician wanted me to have a hysterectomy, so this option was less invasive and I was able to keep my ovaries.

The surgery was a success and my not-quite-husband and I decided that if we wanted kids we would adopt. But fate had something else in mind, and 6 months later I was pregnant with my one in a billion (yes, billion according to the doctor) child. They weren't sure if I would be able to go to term because the egg did not have anything to grow in, but she built her own lining as she went. Somethings are just meant to be!princess:

I often tell friends that are trying and are paying tons of money on "science" to trust in their faith and adopt a child. They will probably end up pregnant when they relax and aren't trying. Just my own opinion, I tend to be a bit opinionated, in case you haven't noticed. I appologize in advance if I have offended anyone! ;)

Karen

Karen, Thanks for sharing this story. Doing the next right thing and putting the outcome in God's hands is simple but not always easy! What a blessing you got!

They don't own Nordies or Bloomies, and I hope they never will!!

I doubt they'll ever get their hands on Nordies, but I'm not so sure about Bloomingdales. Well I hope not anyway, I thought this country had anti-trust laws against unfair competition, which is what Macy's buying up all the chains causes, in my opinion.:confused3

:yay: I have just watched most of the DCL DVD that someone kindly sent for me to see.:yay:

It is fab!! Just one thing, I see no overweight people at all on that cruise! Got some serious work to do.

Ok, I know it was a promotional DVD but just one large person would have been nice.:rotfl:

:rotfl: I thought the same thing. All these happy, shiney THIN people. Get real!

do we have a loser thread?

:lmao: :thumbsup2

Wish me luck everybody....I'm going to join Weight Watchers after work 3/1!!! :yay: Will join the lose before you cruise thread too and will report my weekly weigh-ins. Hopefully that will keep me motivated. :guilty:

Hey you'll do great....according to Vanessa....we're all part of the loser thread!!! :rotfl2:

I don't think we're going to Curacao on this sailing, are we?

Good Morning:

All is bright in Northern Ca, sun is shining and I'm at my desk working (not)

If I could I'd like to ask for some prayers today too.

Leeanna (My sister) is in surgery right now. (for her neck/spine) I think it's being fused, I wasn't really able to hear the whole story because it was freaking me out, so I went into lalalala land after she started telling me. It's a 3 hour surgery and I'm mostly freaking out waiting to hear how she is. I called her boyfriend a minute ago and he said another hour or so......please, prayers & pixie dust.

She is my big sister and she is the best Auntie to my kids. She shares my Disney passion and often will come with us as the 5th wheel on our trips to help with the kids and enjoy the fun. (her boys are all grown-up). I've been thinking about her all day...this surgery is to relieve constant pain in her neck and down her arms. She is the crazy active one in our family, she scuba dives and runs and hikes and travels to wild places. She was told no more roller coaster after this, which is terrible since she would take all the kids on the "scary" rides so I didn't have to get banged around. Live life to the brink of fullness. You never know when things will change.

Back to the regularly scheduled topics....shoes, costco, and oscars (no dieting talk here yet...2 more days until the 1st)

Karen: What a great story. Thanks for sharing.

I was at a delivery once where the mom had been certain that she had an IUD in when she got pregnant. During her PN visits we never were able to visualize it, so we assumed it had fallen out (although rare, it does happen). At the delivery, the little guy was born with the IUD in his hand! Tell me that is not telling you something;) . He was saying here I am despite all that you thought there was no way to stop me :rotfl:

Lisa, let your friend know her health should be the most important thing right now. I know the idea of infertility is probably just as scary to her as cancer (from the sounds of things), but if she focuses on her health, everything should fall into place!

she is out of surgery and is moving to recovery. The doctor said things went well and she will be moving to her room in the next hour.

relief....

Nanette,

Prayers and pixie dust to your sister. I had this same surgery last May. I was very nervous because I have always been a very healthy person and never spent any time in the hospital. I came through it just fine and went home the next day. If she is like me the hardest part will be doing what she is told because she feels so good.

Carol
