I don't post very often but I read every post on this board! I can't imagine the number of posts I would have to read on the Eastbound! That's a part time job.

Sounds like there are several university employed people on this cruise? I am an assistant professor of accounting, my first year out of grad school. This cruise falls right at the end of our spring semester, so for me the timing is good. But I have my daughter booked to go with me and she would miss school. BUT, I am hoping with some persuasion, the school will let her miss and maybe take some work with her. We can have school at sea! As for my son, he has finals the last week of school, so I haven't booked him yet. He would have two and half days after the cruise left in the school year. I want to talk to the school first. I hope I can add him to the cabin we have booked if the school gives the all clear.

So, I bet I am not the only lurker out here that is reading all the posts but just not posting very often.

A little over 14 months till the cruise of a lifetime!! I am so glad I went ahead and got a cabin booked. If you had told me that the ship would sell out this quickly, I would have made a sure thing bet that you would be wrong. I watched the prices on the 2005 Westbound and saw how the prices dropped close to the sail date. I was too poor (graduate school) to go then but I am really happy to go now!:thumbsup2

If I were you, and the $$ is not a huge issue, I would reserve your son's spot NOW, and add him to your reservation to hedge against not being able to add him later. It is easy to cancel him before final payment is due. It may not be so easy to add him!

Holly, we love that programme too! DD and I watch it whenver we can:)

I just love hearing the reason behind particular tattoos that people choose and often get weepy at their stories. :goodvibes

Lisa I am going to 'rejoin' Weight Watchers today! I lost a lot of weight a few years ago but quit and, of course, gained it all back! :headache: I am in for the Monday roll call. Good idea!

I had considered joining WW too, but am not sure I want to spend the money when it all boils down to me not being able to control my food urges. I have to learn some willpower first! But then again, maybe WW helps with that too? Not sure....don't know much about it. I mean, I know what is nutritious and what I'm supposed to eat. It's fighting the urges to eat bad stuff. Absolutely uncontrolable.

I second that! It's exactly what my TA told me yesterday about adding my friend.

Ah....a girl after my own heart. Academy Awards day is my "SuperBowl Sunday". Special foods purchased and, phone off (except when sister Peg is not with me...we need to call each other during commercial breaks!). The AMC theaters here are showing all five nominated movies on Saturday...now I've done a triple feature day before, but five in one day would be something!

My mom and I have had a Academy party for years. We buy as much junk food as we can and sit around all pm watching the show, commenting on how everyone is too skinny or talk about what they are wearing as we stuff our faces! :happytv: Then, the next day we feel horribly sick and vow never to do it again :rotfl: The only good thing is it starts at 3pm out here (the red carpet show) so we don't have to stay up too late to see the final award.

So, I will make an effort to post on a regular basis, even if I don't have anything clever to say. ;)

Yeah, that's me too!

Hmmmm....

I sense a money-making opportunity for myself.

Let's see--Me: 35 years experience as a first grade teacher and elem. school reading specialist, :teacher: retired about a year... A ship full of kids cutting school ... parents facing homework and conducting ship-board school...

I could probably get about $350 an hour, especially toward the last few days when those homework packets are hardly touched! Wait, maybe $450...

Don't all PM me at once!!!

PS
JUST KIDDING!!!!!!

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

DARN - I was SO ready to hit the PM button!

I think a few of us (me unspoken until now) have talked about getting back into shape, or into shape. Maybe we can have a little sub-talk within this talk to help support each other? Maybe a Monday call - a report on how we have done the past week with eating healthy, exercise, etc. Monday might be a good day as I know I always have the hardest time over the week-end. If I know I have to "give a report" maybe it will help me keep on track! After all, with 14 months to go, we can all be in excellent shape for the cruise!
Lisa

I joined Curves almost 2 years ago and I think the getting weighed and measured once month - plus seeing it on a nice little graph helps keep me on track. I can tell myself what I want but seeing it in black and white helps to keep me on the dies more. 43 pounds lost, as of yesterday, and hopefully still counting.

OK - on the last cruise I tried to do something that fell apart - maybe there was not enough time . . . I came up with a spreadsheet for percentage of weight loss, and we had a "challenge" to see who could lose the most percentage of weight (that way no one is embarrassed by how much they weigh). I was going to give awards and everything, and post weekly results, but it fell apart . . . anyone interested?

::yes:: I'm using today (Ash Wednesday) as my reason/incentive to 'give up' some bad eating patterns. No fried food and sugar, no skipping breakfast. Adding in water, veggies, fruit and activity. I'm up for a 'challenge' :thumbsup2 A Monday check in sounds good to me.

John-I've noticed the same thing--I do think it's because of the west coast vs. east coast time zone thing. And sometimes, I just enjoy reading what everyone has to say, but I don't necessarily have a comment.

I have been trying to limit my time online. If I don't, I find I get nothing done.:rotfl:

When I am online I play catch up and by then most questions have been answered. No to mention, I'm a newbie and there isn't much I can add when I know the answer. :)

I like the pace of this thread compared to the EB thread, I don't think I would post at all, just trying to catch up would take hours.

Very impressive!! I agree that there is something about seeing the loss in black and white helps to keep you motivated.

I think this is a great idea. Maybe we could start March 1 as a group?

Good morning Karen and everyone who is probably fast asleep right now!;)

Morning Maz!:yay:

I've just been to have my hair cut and I feel so much better for it:) Funny how that is so true, I love having my hair done for me:)

I try on every cruise I take to have a blow dry every evening. I feel then like I can do anything during the day and still feel glamorous at night.

I had considered joining WW too, but am not sure I want to spend the money when it all boils down to me not being able to control my food urges. I have to learn some willpower first! What WW has helped me with in the past is the black and white reality of the goal. Going to meetings once a week kept me on track. It has been with the falling off the track and not practing the good nutritions habits that has been my downfall. Somehow it is easier to have willpower when you are facing the communal scale once a week!!

Yeah, that's me too!

What a terrific idea!! I mentioned above that I thought March 1 was a great day to start as it is over a week away and would give everyone time enough to join. Someone else may have a better date but that was my first thought.

Hi Everyone,
I just thought I would finally chime in and give you all a hello:wave2:
and post my idea for something to do.
I thought it would be fun to have a bush dancing class on a sea day, since we have so many of them! I am a dance teacher by trade and had my final class in December and am already missing it! I learned to do bush dancing while I was living in Australia and loved it!!!
It is a great ice-breaker for get togethers where people don't know each other. It is very easy to do, you don't need to be a professional dancer. Most of the dances are where you line up, boys on 1 side, girls on the other and meet in the middle. It is especially fun after you have had a few drinks, then the creativity flows!
So how about it, anyone interested in learning to dance like the Aussies do???

I think this sounds like fun (after a few drinks for me)! I love anything Australian - this should bring back memories of my visit to Oz in 2004.

Ithink it sounds like great fun!! Sign John and I up!!

ooh ooh, we may get a COOL preMEAR after all!! Indiana Jones 4 is slated to come out next May 22. maybe since there's indy stuff in both parks, we'll get to see it at sea!!

This would be way to cool:cool2:

No you are not the only lurker. I try to post often, but I sometimes only seem to have time to read just to keep up.

Hi All,

I have been having the day from h&**...my Alaska cruise may be falling apart and I will not know for sure until tomorrow. My car spent the weekend and then today at the dealership and work is about to drive me around the bend. I got home a little while ago and all I want to do is have a drink some chocolate and go to bed. Tomorrow will not be better in the morning, but hopefully I can regroup and get back on track tomorrow...

Laura

I joined WW back in Oct. I had tried many times on my own with no success. I have done well. I'm down 33 lbs. I do find that attending weekly meetings and knowing I have a weigh in is a great motivator. DH is also doing program with me, but does not attend meetings. I actually look forward to my weekly meeting.

Yeah, yeah! Captain Mickey!

I've arranged for group photos on the last 4 or 5 cruises we have been on. Here's the picture of our group on Pirate night during the 2005 PC cruise I arranged. If you would like me to take care of that for this cruise, I would be happy to do so.

Hi All,

Here are the pictures of the Fish Extenders we are making for this WBREPO cruise.

This is the way you will receive them so there is lots of room to personalize them.

That would be my problem too Holly, so you're not alone. I need to muster up my willpower. I know what to do and how to do it, I just need to stick to it and I know that all starts with me...no one can teach me that! Such is life, but I hear your pain, believe me.
