In UK we are now at 108.9p/litre which is something like $8.26/US gallon

Somewhere your math is flawed. There are approx. 3.8 liters to a US gallon. 3.8x$1.09 = $4.14. Still high but a long way from $8.30.

Don't know what kind of litre (liter) they are selling you but in the US liter it still takes 3.8 liters to make a US gallon and 1.08.9 still works out to $4.14
per gallon.
BTW here in central Ohio it was $3.59.9 yesterday. Haven't been out yet to see how much it's gone up today.![]()

Not $1.09 per litre, £1.09!
The online conversion tool I used said 4 litres = 1.06 US gallon. So I did 4 x £1.09 = £4.36 x 1.9 exchange rate = $8.28.
