I am positive you both are doing wonderful jobs. As my kids got a little older, we all did all kinds of mission work all the time to see how many live. Daniel went on 6 mission trips while in HS. International, Rural and Urban....He ended up loving the work and may end up as a missionary. The girls have both been to West VA twice doing Vacation Bible Schools for little kids who have NOTHING. We spend Thanksgiving serving homeless in DC and many Christmases we have delivered dinners and presents to families. Our Christmases are small so we can give to others.

I do remember one year we got the name of a family from Western Fairfax Christian Missionaries and we shopped for food and gifts and wrapped and when we went to deliver they had nicer TV's, nicer computers, pretty much nicer than everything....I had to explain sometimes people with things come on bad times.....even that was a lesson.

Okay on the flip side, we do Disney Cruises and have 2 houses.....my kids have a lot of stuff...but not as much as their friends.

I guess I am just a working mom doing the best I know how.....
Lisa, you're giving them the opportunity to experience TONS of different ways of life, different economic situations, etc. Your kids will be well-rounded because of your efforts.

Tonight is our annual Winterlicious/Summerlicious adventure, two times a year city restaurants host prix fix dinner menus for two weeks, for reduced prices and a group of friends head out for a meal at a new restaurant (s). We are doing two this year, somehow we ended up with two greek restaurants, all good.

The one for tonight is Pan on the Danforth, and Monday is Lolita's Lust (lol), check them out.

Pj

Hmmm . . . the first one sounds interesting, but that second one . . .

OK, I have a confession to make, and I have to tell you guys as I try to catch up on 20 or so pages . . .

As we were on our way up to the Basketball game, I told Amy, I hope that we do not get into an accident. She asked me "Why, are you not wearing clean underwear"? (is that the first thing you all would have thought to say to your husbands too?)

I told her no honey, I was however in a real hurry when I took my shower this morning, and grabbed my clothes. I didn't notice this until I was changing my shirt to go to the game . . .

I AM WEARING THE BOXERS THAT SOPHIA BEDAZZLED ALONG THE HEM!

Plain white with multiple rhinestone colors all around.

No way was I going to go into a stall and drop those babies down to my ankles tonight!

Cavaliers won, and beat the Clippers - Sophia got to be a courtside kid and go down on the court before the game, and my bedazzled boxers stayed in my Levis!

You ARE planning on packing them for the cruise now aren't you???

SCRAPBOOKING UPDATE!

Well tonight I finished designing and putting all the supplies and stuff together for 2 pages of our scrapbook. They are for our first full day of the cruise-Castaway Cay! Everything for the first two pages is spread out on my kitchen table. DH just gave me the "look"! He knows that from now to the cruise, that scrapbooking has taken over the kitchen table and counters................again!
:thumbsup2

Okay, on to the next day!

Thanks for your hard work. I'm really looking forward to trying my hand at scrapbooking for the first time.:cool1:

Holly-trying to catch up did it snow there yesterday...curious on the Blake updates:goodvibes We are all rooting for you:)
Yup, it snowed....weather report said it was only just under 6 inches, but it still made for awful driving. No Blake update. I did e-mail him this morning telling him he should check into this cruise to see if he'd be interested in joining us.

Oh John, that's too funny for words! Are you sure you wanted to admit that to all of us crazy women?! And you know none of us will ever let you live it down, even the men!

I know that is great! Is your daughter in a year round school or a regular track school? This is Jacinda's first year in traditional track school. Our schools in town changed over this year all but three of them. This summer I have big plans! Well not really yet but I plan on doing a bunch of things we never did since she will have so much free time.

regular track. year round always sounded so cool to me a vacation in the fall is my favorite time to travel.

Mine watch older movies too. I do think since I do not make a big deal about some things it makes the kids LESS interested in them. Such as bad language. My kids hear things in movies that mommy would never want them to say but they don't run around saying those things. Now I have a friend whose kids only watch G movies but heard the f word somewhere. Those kids ran around for a week or two using it every chance they got. :lmao: I found it funny my friend however did not. :rotfl2:

that was the case with mine to, until recently. they both have been potty mouths and I'm not pleased with it and they know it. I've told them that talking that way just shows how ignorant you are by not being able to use a clean word to express oneself. (had an English teacher tell me that in high school, never forgot it) (and I can have a bad potty mouth myself sometimes and when I do I just think about how dumb I am sounding :headache: )

Is this an adult activity or can kids do a book too? I am a scrapbooking failure and love the idea of a 'scrabooking for dummies' type project, or am I making an assumption?

My 9 and 11 year olds are very interesting in doing a book too if that is possible.

Well the VA Tech Bowling Team has arrived....:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
I fed all 16 of them! I made 8 pounds of Chili and 6 pounds of pork bbq. They ate it all and 6 pounds of fruit:scared1: :scared1:
wow:rolleyes1
Ummmmmmmm . . . This beer boy is NOT wearing a Tiara unless I am unconscious. I can just see it now, photos of me in a tiara and Crocs, passed out on deck 9 . . .
:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:
Poor Wilson! I hope he feels better quickly! Give him extra hugs.
ditto...hope he feels better soon.
Nope haven't seen it yet. But I'm about to!

Oh goodness! You are a saint!

Hey kids, don't you wish we could all be sitting here right now having our end of the day chat and beverage of choice:

good night everyone!:)

:rolleyes1 Just a thought to keep in the back of your mind, everybody: I might have some helpful information (via PM) for all of you ladies looking for the perfect jewelry for your cruise outfits. :thumbsup2

Yes, not a problem at all. Just email me the colors and whether I need to pick up your adhesive or not for each book.

Alot of times, the kids are more creative than the adults! :thumbsup2

The first time I did this on the ship, the first thing I learned was never been offended by people changing the way they do the layouts on each page. Everyone has their own style and kids are great at coming up with great ideas. Plus everyone will get some stickers and stuff so they can add and make it their own.

Just PM me with whoever else you want to add.

it's weird. At school along with all the normal things you think of they do teach them how to pour, use utensils....etc.....in Samantha's mind (I think) at restaurants, we - John and I - always get a water and it comes in a GLASS. That is big time to her. I have traded with her tons of times.......:rotfl: Haley follows along, but tonight she just looked so dejected, John brought our drinks to the table and the shirley temples were in a glass like our drinks, I think it meant something!

I still prefer Sophia to get a cup with a lid and a straw when we eat out. She always sits by me at dinner, and I am a nervous wreck if she has a glass. It is always too close to the edge of the table, and many times the cup has been toppled without a spill- the glass would have been all over me!

I, we, don't know the first thing about parenting. At all. Have we done everything wrong? John and I think so.
We have a sassy kid, who is 5 but thinks she is Amber (my sis 23).
We have a wanna be....to that sassy kid.

Johnny is Johnny......he's a guy, "whatever you want V"!

my Geeks, I hope, will understand, how do I give my girls "everything" that I never had and still make them appreciate it?

V I'm not even a Geek but I understand the feelings you've expressed. I want to think what I do with my kids works. But truth be told we all want that and think what we are doing is right of course. I tend to shower them with everything, good and bad (well not too bad) but with bounderies and expectations. I'm a very tough mom, but I also take my kids to Disneyland and buy them lots of stuff that I want them to have. They both have to work around the house, as our home is OUR home. We share the load. We expect them to do their best in school first, as that is the job as kids. Then the extra stuff can come. I'm not beyond making drastic actions to get them to understand when they have disappointed their parents. Right now Wilson is my trouble maker. All attitude issues He knows that he walks a very tight line with me. If he fails he gets one warning and if that doesn't change it then he is to lose a race. His life is all about his go-cart, so that is the one thing that I can hold him to keep himself in line. With Molly when she was little it was her doll, Bitty Baby. If she misbehaved then Bitty took a time out. Molly for the most part has been pretty good, but every now and then she tests us to see what will happen. Lies about having homework done, strange stuff. Its all a work in progress I think. I just hope 10-20 years from now they are in college and happy adults. Then maybe we can look back and say I'm glad it's done :thumbsup2

Okay happy cruisers to be.....It's 10:30 here in Utah, so it must be time for alot of you to go to bed.

So quit posting so I don't have to read 30 pages in the morning!
(Maybe it will be kinda quiet tomorrow with the Super Bowl and all?) :confused3

I could have typed that right there myself.
I can offer no answers just the comfort of knowing there are tons of us moms out there in the same exact situation right now. I want my daughter to appreciate things and she really does but she still seems to expect them as well. Last time we flew to San Diego for vacation I had all the suitcases in the livingroom. I told the kids cmon lets go to the airport I am ready! My daughter started to wheel hers to the front door and I asked where she was going. She asked if the limo was here. :rotfl2: I cracked up something fierce and told her that mom's taxi was taking us and to wheel to the garage. She didn't care one way or another but now I worry that I have set expectations really high. I sure hope adulthood is not a letdown when reality kicks in for her.

Paul and I often tell Molly just as easy to marry for Love and Money than just love :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

OK, this is the hardest I have laughed since I started reading this thread. What I want to know is......how Sophia got the boxers to bedazzle in the first place. It's one thing to joke about it.....it's quite another to actually do it. Couldn't she find a pair of jeans instead???????? ........Oh, I never laughed so hard.......ha ha ha ha ha.......good one!!!!!!!!!!!
