Could not agree more!! It is an experience that should be valued over a couple more days of "book work". And I am a teacher!! (okay a homeschool teacher for now, but I went to college for Psychology and also my Teacher Credential). Sometimes the US public school system forgets that life is learning.

Well put. And, I don't mean all educators, etc. I realize that the muttonheads in the legislatures are the one's who caused all of this. Things seemed so much better way back in my day. I think we should regress a little. AND when I look at a poorer state, like Montana, and see that they are ranked 4th or 5th in education every year, I wonder what they do differently. I graduated from a High School in Missoula that was ranked 5th in the nation scholastically. It would have been 4th, but I went there. LOL. Anyway, we were by no means a wealthy school district. They just didn't use the same funding systems back then.

AND the state colleges/universities are less than half of what Oregon Schools are. The U of M Law School won the Moot Court competition 2 of the last three years, so they are pretty good schools.

Nan...you just described my daughter. Horrible fine motor skills ie handwriting. Total teachers pet! I think I'm seeing a great friendship forming with our kids. Also, she loves older kids (they're so cool ya know) so that outta work out great!

Do you find that you are worried more than she is about this? That seems to be our case. Molly is forever a happy girl and just never sees the down side to life. I totally think she is blessed. I've never been that kind of person. I see the whole picture, good and bad and then I worry. Not that worry helps mind you.

Molly has another friend, Bailey who is in 4th grade and while they don't see each other all the time they are very close. They have some of the same issues and I think there is safety in having a friend who is like you are. I'm anxious for the girls to meet and like each other, but nervous too, sometimes what we mommys want do seem to be what our girls want. See worrying again. ok, I'm laying off it now.

Ohmigosh ... I just noticed that noone is currently planning Door Tag (unless I missed something, and if so, please let me know).

I am definitely happy to take the lead on this. Do you all want to play??


In case you haven't played DIS DoorTag ... someone (me in this case) makes up a Door Magnet and then "tags" the door of one other DIS member, who "signs off" and then "tags" another .. and so on. When the magnet is completely filled in (everyone has been tagged), you return in to my door. I will then switch to magnet number 2 ... we can try to get thru several magnets (with so many sea days, we should set a high goal). The kids ... and the kids-at-heart ... all like this one as it is hilarious to see everyone running back to the room to "check" for the doormagnet, the run down the halls to place it as quickly as possible.

I would have prizes for everyone (delivered by my crew to each fish extender or door) after each magnet has been completely signed off.

Gydell-that's great because Drew will be 6 also (he turns 6 in March), and Kaylee's daughter is 6, so they'll have each other to pal around with when we make our stops!

Kaylee - we're booking the Outdoor Adventure thru DCL, right?

I would rather book it through DCL. I know there's a savings doing it on your own, but because this excursion involves a boat, a truck and mules, I'd rather be going through DCL...just in case one of those three fail and we can't get back to the ship in time...and especially since I'll be separated from my family and Kaylee and Scott's girls will be on the ship.

Tonight is our annual Winterlicious/Summerlicious adventure, two times a year city restaurants host prix fix dinner menus for two weeks, for reduced prices and a group of friends head out for a meal at a new restaurant (s). We are doing two this year, somehow we ended up with two greek restaurants, all good.

The one for tonight is Pan on the Danforth, and Monday is Lolita's Lust (lol), check them out.

On my last cruise the hostess, thanked me for being so neat and tidy, I was shocked thought I was being messy, lol. At home I am a collector, books everywhere, I need to purge.

Well I love the story of you! I get it and thank you again anyway. BTW, I too need to purge.....everything in the house!

EWWWWWWW Gydell......I LOVE this idea! Make him take off 2 weeks and go with you and Tyler. He can sleep on the couch with his daughter and you and Tyler can have the bed.....then you could all go together and have a blast and we could all meet him. You both need the time together anyway after all this time appart. This could really work well. DO IT! ASK HIM!

Don't give up on 2/10 either.....get an extension.....the more time you have, the more money you can put together and get on this boat. We don't want to leave port without you and Tyler with us. It just wouldn't be the same without all of our family with us.

Thanks Deb! I'm working on it! Just got some good news in the mail. I'll be adding $200 more on my cruise balance on Monday, then I'll only have $800 more to go! And if Tyler's dad contributes, and if DCL is willing to extend me until 2/15, that would take care of it.

WOW guys!! My heart is really going out to ... so many of you ... today!!

My oldest Tiffany is "in remission" (and has been for 4 years) from Leukemia ... praise God!!

In addition to her 2.5 years of in-hospital treatments, we have struggled thru so many challenges ... medical, cancelled vacations, etc. ... that I am reading about. Please know that I am seriously praying that everyone's situation works out for the best (and I know that we do not always know what "the best" is, so I confidently leave it in hands much greater than mine).

I will say that we went our first DCL cruise as our celebration of her "end of treatment" and it was so truly WONDERful, we decided to book the MAGIC for 14days as a truly "once in a lifetime" family memory ... and it was!!

... well here we are ... everyone is still happy and healthy ... and we going again (even tho it means juggling our family finances and cutting back in other areas) because our priority right now is to share this time together before they are all off to college or whatever life may have in store.

I believe Family Vacations (and I am talking all families, in every shapes/sizes, whether blood related or friendships and everything in between), and making memories to last a lifetime, are so important!! (In fact, that is the name of my travel company)

I am sending some Pixie Dust to everyone that the challenges can be met ... or at least somewhat overcome. I am very much looking forward to seeing everyone onboard!!

Karen-thanks for sharing, I'm glad Tiffany is in remission. I agree, family vacations are critical! Those are memories to last a lifetime.
