Ok I don't feel so bad not doing much before Darrell came home last night (he was in TX all week for work). I did laundry and dishes and planned to eat our last night so all was good. I had planned to do some de-cluttering of my scrapbook area and it just never happened - I actually started another new project and cluttered more

The mean mom that I am is having the kids pick up after the dogs right now, while I DIS.

That bring up an interesting question. What chores do kids on this board do???

I'll start:

Molly - dishes (sometimes loads and unloads dishwasher) laundry sorts and loads and folds, feeds and waters bunny daily, and changes her cage weekly (is she is lucky)

Wilson - complaining about it all...dog poop and emptying the trash, feeds the dogs and his turtle daily.

They only do the chores when we pester them about them, which is maybe once a week (the dog poop, once a month, it's not worth the battle and easier to do it ourselves)

I was thinking about the two ideas for kids that I already posted on, and had an idea . . . I am not a Powerpoint expert, or even regular user, but was wondering . . .

What if all the kids did a Powerpoint page (or pages) about themselves BEFORE the cruise. Where they live, their family, pets, etc. . . . and then combine all of those pages into one presentation that the kids could keep as a reminder of all the kids they met and friends they made.

I think someone would have to come up with a beginning and an ending, and maybe to make it easier and make it flow better a template page or pages for the information to be entered. That would help make it maybe a bit consistent. Then someone with a computer on board could put it all together (or maybe pages could be emailed to the person combining before the cruise) and then the file could be posted for sharing.

You heavy duty Powerpoint users . . . is this a plausible idea? Is there perhaps a better solution? I would be willing to do whatever, but remember, I am a Mac user (I do have PP on the Mac), and have used PP on the PC maybe ONCE in Office '97. I also have Keynote on the Mac, which I think makes pages that are compatible with Powerpoint.

That would be a great tear jerker kind of momento as well as a great thing for the kids to show at school. I would love to be a part of something like this!

Not sure if this has been mentioned but on Friday Mar 7th at 1:00pm Eastern the Discovery Science channel will be having a show on widening the canal.

I also have not paid enough attention when people were posting about books, all I remember is that the 'Path Between the Seas' is long and dry. I'm thinking about these?

I've got the first one, picked it up at Barnes and Noble since I wanted to see it before buying it. Good book. A bit young, Molly will read it for sure but not at grade level (5th grade) Better for my 2nd grader

This episode is on Itunes for $1.99, I bought this and the Ocean Liners episode, love them. History Channel, Modern Marvels. Also the Episode from Extreme Engineering called Widening the Panama Canal. All can be watched right on your computer, no need for an ipod.

There is even a kids song about the canal, do a search for Panama Canal and it will come up.

The Mrs. Bennett Report
An Exposé For Readers Possessing Refined Senses and Cultured Dispositions

A few days ago, I promised photos of Mrs. Bennett, but first a few words for concerned readers who have wondered how she was settling into and enjoying her Chicago environs after her long and tedious journey from across the Pacific.

Mrs. Bennett arrived at Eastwood Manor on Thursday late in the day, after a journey of some 6 days via aeroplane and motorcar conveyances.

After disposing of her baggage and taking tea, she proclaimed that she was feeling quite refreshed. She insisted on a turn around the room before settling into her duties.

At these, her duties, she did not disappoint and embarked on them with much proficiency and efficiency giving nothing but the highest of satisfaction.

She immediately familiarised herself with the WiFi network, proclaiming that is was nothing to her, and she did not mind in the least talking with tradesmen.

Her current daily routine consists of advising the Eastwood Manor household of how many days are left until their ocean holiday. She also relates the news and weather to all who would turn a gentle ear, and is very fond of showing all some of her miniature portraits.

Mrs. Bennett, would like everyone who has been inquiring after her health to know that is has never been better, and on the whole, she is quite satisfied with the new position in life in which she finds herself.

And now the photos:

Mrs Bennett, displays one of the many photos that she pulls from a Flickr album on the Internet

(The reader will note in this photo that Mrs. Bennett is wearing a most whimsical yet tasteful earring.)

A rather saucy photo of Mrs. Bennett's posterior. The reader will note that she is nobly endowed, possessing two USB ports, stereo speakers and has the ability to support ear listening devices for quieter, contemplative moments of musical enjoyment.

It may be of great interest to some readers to view Mrs. Bennett's elegant and tasteful baggage.

And so dear reader, that is all there is to tell about Mrs. Bennett. She is a most welcome addition to Eastwood Manor.

She also asked that her warm regards be related to all of you, and wishes you enjoyment on your upcoming oceanic holiday.

Oh I love it! Please keep us updated as time goes by how things are getting on with you all.

DD is much better about doing chores than DS. DK are both in charge of cleaning their own rooms and making their beds daily however on the weekends we slack on bed making. They put their dishes away(on the counter don't want broken dishes) after their done eating. Once in a while I'll have them clean up the family room. I do have to admit that I do have a cleaning lady come every other week but its not enough there has to be cleaning in between her visits. I've been thinking of getting DS to start cleaning bathroom(wipe sinks with clorox wipes etc..) some but haven't done that yet. I would love for him to help in the yard but we have a company do our yard maintenance and DS has allergies to pollen, weeds, etc...My DD helps my DS clean his room sometimes and he pays her for it.:upsidedow Don't know if that's good or not...you know negotiations etc...

Thats awesome. We won an dream extra magic hour in the MK with only about 500 other people. It was amazing, no lines. It was strange though b/c I saw the dream team and was expecting ears or pins and the handed us a pin and put on wristbands and said come back at 12 and we will party. We did and the whole park stayed open.

That would be a wonderful dream gift to win!

Ian:

Thank you for the wonderful expose on your new housemate. She is quite small in stature. I figured at least as tall as a cup of joe.

She may just have to procreate and have an offspring sent to California. Easter and My birthday are soon to be here. DH forever looks for ideas of gift giving (NOT) so will be pleased at the suggestion.

Loved her earring too. Thought it resembled my friend Blinky of Ms. PacMan lore, but alas I see it's part of the Chumby logo...

remind us please of her website chumby.com is it?

OK, back home from the big A to get baseball tkts for this summer, hard to believe we will have already been long home from our May adventure through the Panama Canal.

Mrs. Bennett looks really cool and very stylish.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is because the extra daylight helps the farming communities resulting in a perk to the economy. So, its a little pick me up.

yes I believe it to help our farming friends in there work endevours.

Okay, a spray tan at no charge....I would look like I had just stepped off a cruise all year!!! I agree, it is a little odd standing there being airbrushed, but compared to how I look with the do-it-yourself spray stuff....I just have to get over it. I usally only do two light coats, and extra light on the face. I am also one of the fairer skinned. I use sunscreen still...I don't think you can get it with sunscreen, but I am not sure.

going to try the spray tan myself this time. My sister just did it yesterday, off to Hawaii today, so I'm getting the info from her upon return next week on how it was. I think I need a week of vacation to get ready for vacation, wax, tan, hair cut, pedicure & packing !!!

You can borrow one of ours!

would love that:thumbsup2 My yard doesn't have room for one. the yards in AZ are pretty small the pool takes up almost half the yard. we just have a small grass area fireplace and grill takes up another big part and patio...no room for a swingset or hammock:sad2:

I ordered it for Christmas but didn't get around to picking it up when I went back they already sent it back:confused3 I think my DK would like it.

Holly's computer must have died. She has not posted at all for over a day. That's not like Holly. The last thing she posted was that her laptop was in need of repair.

I hope it works out for her and that she can get back on here. We'll miss her and she will miss us too.

Well she is able to post all day from work still so I am sure she will be popping back in to chat in no time. The pages have been moving very slow on this thread this past week. Seems as if we all had to catch up on life and work for a bit. So maybe she is house cleaning or something. :confused3

It's our Mother's Day tomorrow. I have already received a plant arrangement and a bowl of hyacinths which I love.

I tell my children not to bother as my daughter and 2 daughter in laws are mothers themselves now and need to be pampered.

This year I get to have 2 Mother's Days!!!
