Just thought I would let anyone interested in knowing what it is like to be a CM on DCL there is a former CM who has been writing a series of stories about her life as a DCL CM. It is on www. allearsnet .com. Go into search and put in: Disney Cruise Line A Cast Member in Training. There are 6 parts so far and it is very enlightening.

Happy Valentines Day to all!

Yes, there is a Walmart about 10-15 minutes from the port of L.A., and a Target even closer. There's not a lot of good public transit here, though. I have no idea if there are buses that run from the port at all. But I imagine they all share car rentals or something if they have a day off. (Do they have days off? I guess not, because the ship has to leave! Geesh, I never thought about that.)

If I remember right, there is a shuttle bus that runs for CM's only at the port that takes them to Walmart in Long Beach

Ok everyone...

This is my latest story... (& I'm sorry to rant, but right now, I'm pretty alone in this...

First I have to note that I don't get along with my father... VERY bad divorce and I was the one child out of the 4 that was left behind... (the others were older and in college or on their own... I was the only one at home...)

After a very bad incident whereas his wife threw a fit and went after me (for something that was so silly and foolish - I took my nephew to McDonalds and she was serving hamburgers for dinner...) and threw me out of the house... Ever since then my father and I have had a strained relationship. I had panic attacks and pains in my chest for the last 28 years so I decided to have my own life. I am very cordial and respectful when I am in his company - he turns things around and tells his version of things and I end up on the bad side of things...

So... last Thursday my brother calls my mom... They don't call me, because they think that I'm the one that left dad... and they blame me... He tells her that dad had surgery to remove a cyst... I come down to TX to visit my sister and she tells my mother - not me... that it is cancer, but that they don't know what the treatment will be.

He's 77 this year. Has more heart problems than Dr. Oz could find... along with many other health issues.

So... I've spent the last 2 nights crying because I am afraid that if I have to go to his funeral/services, whatever... someone is going to blow up at me (I do not intend to cause a scene...but I don't trust my stepmother...)

So I'm feeling pretty crappy about all of this.

Sorry I had to rant... I just don't have too many people to talk to about it...

I'm so sorry you have experienced this pain so long over this, especially with little or no family support. Rant away, we listen well (a specialty of mine).

Joseph

Isn't there a Walmart in LA? If not then they can order on line and have it sent to the port.

We have Walmarts over here. The port is actually in Long Beach and they have one right in the city. Maybe we could all do something different as far as stores or restaurants. Since they will be here for a few months I could find out close stores and restaurants. My aunt actually lives in Long Beach and we go there all the time to eat and they have some really fun, beach type things to do. I wonder how many people you would actually buy something for?

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone

Morning all! Well, only 18 pages to read this morning. After I left work and got home last night (the commute was AWFUL), I already had 6 inches of snow in my drive. Spent 30 minutes shoveling that stupid stuff and then with my frozen fingers, went inside and then put on my snow stuff, so I could go back out and wipe down my car before pulling in the garage. I just hate a wet garage floor, let alone all the dirt that comes in all winter long from the roads.

Anyway, was suppose to go to drill team meeting at high school last night, but got the call 30 minutes before that they had cancelled, so watched Deal or No Deal while my TIVO was recording Big Brother and American Idol. Darn, those AI people, I missed the end, BUT, thanks to the disboards! Glad the model got it. That was my guess before TIVO kicked me out!

GOOD NEWS:

The young man, DAVID ARCHULETA, 16 years old that made the final 24 is from right here in Utah! He actually lives in Murray, which is within a 5 minute drive from our house. IN FACT, my daugher Jamie (15) knows David very well, they have the same voice teacher, and when David was about 7 or 8 years old, he was in the same performing group and they sang and danced together for a year. He is a really nice kid. Please vote for him! Thanks. We are hoping he does well.

Anyway, got up this morning and we had another 6 inches of snow. So after shoveling the drive a second time, I headed to work. Good thing I have 4 wheel drive as the snow plows couldn't keep up with the storm and I had to get through 12 inches of that white beautiful stuff...NOT....to get to work.

The storm came in about 3 yesterday afternoon and then it just stalled over us. We got that lake effect snow and wind. THey actually closed the highways and there were 10 buses of school kids that got stuck in the snow and wind because it was white out conditions. They finally got the buses back to the school and on the 10 p.m. news the kids were having a great time because they got to spend the night in school and watched movies and then they slept in their classrooms and the teachers stayed up all night long monitoring the rooms to make sure no hanky panky was going on. 19 teachers and 300 elementary students. Guess sometimes it doesn't pay to live on the mountain! I had a hard time getting home myself.

They got over 2 feet of snow 30 minutes west of Salt Lake.

WOW!

Okay, that's my update

We are starting to get serious about our reservations and I was wondering how you book Palo brunch. We have four adults in the group. Does one person book them all or does each individual person have to book it? I just want to be prepared when feb 24 comes around.

There is Long Beach City Place which is right downtown (5-10 minutes from the port next to the Aquarium) which is a mall with a bunch of stores and food places.

I will be on the Wonder on the 28th Feb and I will ask two of my friends who are CM's what they did when they were in port back in 2005 each week. And then I'll ask them if guests wanted to give them gift cards and such, what would they like and use.

One person books for everyone.

Great! Thanks!

Someone asked a couple of pages back about what kinds of things did you send to the ship instead of hauling it to the ship.

Usually, I try to ship most of my stuff for the scrapbook class ahead of time so I don't have to haul it across the country (because it is HEAVY with all the paper and stuff) and then I have also shipped our pirate outfits, formal night shoes, etc. I think in 2005 I shipped 3 boxes and when we got to our stateroom at 1:30 p.m. they were in the room waiting for me!

Thanks PJ for posting that info on the shipping stuff I posted so long ago. Since my planner was stolen and it had all that information in it, I knew exactly where to go to retrieve the address and such!!!!!
