Holly....
My son was also diagnosed with FLU A on Thursday, he has real bad coughing and a high fever, too late for the antiviral (must be given within 24-48 hours of symptoms, which was just coughing but started on Monday) My pediatrician gave me persciptions for "Tamiflu" for everyone in our family....just in case....Well yesterday, I started with the flu, it is horrible and my husband picked up the Tamiflu for me and I can't tell you how much better I feel today (although yesterday was the worst!). Tamiflu shortens the virus if I understand correctly. I will guarantee next year we are all getting flu shots!!! I have never been so sick, even if it was one day for the worst of it!

Hope Tyler feels better and I hope you don't get it!
Oh no! Sorry your family is going through this too! Well, his symptoms just started yesterday, so hopefully the Tamiflu will work for him. Problem is the taste! I just gave him the first dose a minute ago and he HATED it and I know I'll have trouble convincing him to drink it in the morning. :sad2: Any ideas what to mix it with?

rest up and don't do anything to show up the rest of us lazy slugs. You can cook or clean, but not both in one day.:lmao:

Exactly - can't mke the rest of look like slugs (ok - I've done neither today...and no plans to either:lmao: )

holly is he coughing?
this is crazy sounding but worked for Haley - she was coughing through the night keeping everyone up....I slathered Vicks vapor rub on her feet and covered them in socks and it stopped her coughing.
I've actually read about that remedy and everybody swear it works! I haven't heard him cough yet, but maybe that's because he's being still. Apparently it was a horrible cough that started yesterday morning. Now he's just wheezy. But I'll definitely use the Vicks if he starts coughing. Oh crap.....have to go buy some first. But will do that for sure.

Can you share what your son will be wearing???

It's confusing since DH is "Dave" and DS is "David", but my husband will be wearing a sombrero, bushy mustache and poncho. I have a matching dress and will probably have my hair up in a ponytail with a matching long bow.

Holly, poor Tyler. You are on the ball to keep fluids in him, it would bug him more to dehydrated.

Pj
I'm sure trying to force him to drink. I put his drink in his favorite Captain Jack cup in hopes of bribing him. It's working a tiny bit. Better than nothing, I suppose.

Oooohh you flu sufferers!! I am so sorry to hear everyone is "catching" something. Our entire family has had flu shots since 2001 (when Tiffany was diagnosed) and we have only had 24hr "bugs" since then. I highly recommend them!!

Hope everyone feels good enough to book excursions later.

If Tyler won't drink give him popsicles. Any liquid, even frozen, counts.

He'll be better in a day or so.:flower3:
He doesn't like popsicles. Never has. He can't stand the frozen feeling in his mouth. But I'm having a bit of luck getting him to drink.

Holly, Shannon just asked me to clarify WHICH Reese's Peanut butter eggs do you like?

The big ones:

Or the little eggs (that look sorta like this as I couldn't find an actual image):

WooHoo!! 2 more pounds lost this week!! :woohoo:

Okay, I must confess, I was actually hoping for more with all my treadmill and eating so carefully (no thanks to you all and your treats/candy talk!!) ;)

I am hoping fat is turning to muscle, etc. and that the "whoosh fairy" will come one of these weeks and show an even bigger loss soon. :lovestruc

Those are some of my favorite sickie comfort foods.....and grilled cheese and chocolate pudding......uuuummmmmm uuuuuuummmmmmmm good. It makes you feel all better!

I must be the odd one but when I'm sick nothing with dairy sounds at all appealing.

I tend to drink ginger ale and eat chicken noodle/rice soup and saltines. though for some reason I always crave crunchy cheetos when I'm sick. I don't normally eat them.

And jello is a must!

Love hearts are like Smarties except they fizz.... :goodvibes

I can't seem to get a picture to load...

Heck I have lived in both SoCal and NorCal bay area and traffic is a given! I have to say though sometimes the SoCal traffic was bumper to bumper and still going 80 mph so that is at least better then horrible stop in go traffic. Living where I have though I have grown up with bad traffic and known nothing else and it really doesn't bother me oddly enough.

Prior to moving to So Cal I was living in NE PA - there if you had to 22 miles it took 25 minutes to get there. Here it takes us 45 minutes to go 19 miles to work on a good day. So we spend a heck of a lot more time in the car here. Not something I'll miss when/if we ever get to leave here.

I do not know about anyone else but I think for this cruise I am going to pack "movie theater candy" in our bags. I really do not bring much food on board but the kids love to have it when we go to see movies onboard and the price they charge is just way high.

I can hit the dollar tree and pick up the movie size boxes and pack them - then freeing up room coming home :)

I was also reading there is a Sams Club at Puenta Verarta right near the port. may have to pop over there and get some things too :)

I'm planning on bringing some movie candy too. We love Good N Plenty's at the movies and no one carries them anymore - I buy them at Target.

DrHug and I get a sugar high everytime we go out to the motorhome for a SkipBo night. We have a stash out there of Boston Baked Beans, Sour Balls and those stripe crunchy peanut butter small bars. I can't think of them name of them, but they are the Yummiest!

Mary Jane's?

Oh, neat idea! I've never heard that one before. Thanks!

My mom used to make this for us. I had forgotten about it until DGS18 had a very sore throat a few weeks ago. He could barely swallow. I made him some and he said that yes it was very soothing. And it tastes very good too! A treat for being sick! A heaping tablespoon or so of jello in a mug, fill with boiling water and stir to disolve, let it cool enough for him to drink.

oh thank you for reminding me! I want to bring some gingerale on the cruise with us this time in case someone gets sick again. Just a couple of bottles or so.
