Going the end of may saw they were going to offer maxxpass this year want sure when it was available?

They have not announced a date. They have added paper FP to TSMM. They are supposed to be testing wifi. And I think it's a fair bet paper FP will be up and running on Matterhorn when it reopens.

But no word beyond that.

VERY unsubstantiated rumour says it'll be up and running by the end of this year (2017).

Ugh they announced it in what January?
Wish they would have said how long it was going to be.
I was sure that it would be up and running by my trip in late June but I guess it seems like it won't.
Considering that if I go to DL again after this it likely won't be for 4-5 years I'm a bit disappointed although I guess I should be happy with the money I will save.

Posts with scanners near the top have been installed at all fastpass entrances, so that part of the MaxPass system is ready. Park-wide WiFi is not a requirement for MaxPass, but would certainly be helpful (some carriers have coverage or capacity issues, some international travelers turn off cellular to avoid high roaming charges).

MaxPass was announced along with FastPass for Toy Story and Matterhorn, so I expect (or just guess) the system will be active soon after Matterhorn reopens.

Is there a reopen date set?
Sorry I don't follow DL news that much.

Well, remember that 'by the end of 2017' covers everything from 'tomorrow' to 'midnight on New Year's Eve'. My feeling is that if they don't start up by mid-May then we won't see it until late-August. Reasoning being that I don't think they'd want to start something that major in the middle of a peak attendance period. Plus, they've just started piloting WiFi in the parks which is assumed to be to facilitate MaxxPass. I expect MaxxPass might not go live until we hear that WiFi is up and running well. It would be a disaster if the went live during Summer peak and no one could use MaxxPass (which they are charging for) because the WiFi hadn't been thoroughly tested.

But this is all just my theory and supposition. Disney's started up things during time periods I thought were foolish for a start up before.

Hmmm. We leave Friday. I am getting Photopass for the week, but was trying to wait and be sure they don't decide to roll out MaxxPass this week (since as I understand Photopass will be included with it (I think??)). I guess I will wait to buy Photopass until the day we leave.

I'd be shocked if they released it this week (and yes they said it would include photopass) but if you're just going for the basic week long package you can wait until you get home to buy the photopass to make sure you have enough pictures you want to make it worthwhile.

Is there no advantage to buying photopass in advance at Disneyland? I know buying it in advance at WDW, there's a price break, so I think I just sort-of half assumed there was at Disneyland, but I haven't dug into it hard. Was waiting until closer to my trip.

I'm going to Disneyland in late May, and am also hoping Maxpass is running by then, but assuming it isn't, I was considering buying photopass, as I'll be traveling solo and it's hard to take pictures of myself, haha... so I'll need to make use of Disney Photographers if I want my face in any pictures. (I know I can give them my own camera, but the results usually aren't as good, in my experience.)

If there's an advance discount, I'd likely go for it. If it's all the same, I'll likely just collect codes and make the decision when I get home, as suggested.

Currently no advance discount. The price did go up right before my last trip so I was glad I had already purchased it, but that was just a timing fluke.
