Has anyone heard or is it possible that the maxpass service will change to a free service like fasspasses in WDW? We are heading to DL in June and there will be 3 of us and we have 5 day passes. It would add up quite a bit to get maxpasses for all 3 of us for the entire trip. All the posts I have read say that they are worth the money. Just wondering - any thoughts??

I give that approximately no chance.

One thing to keep in mind is that you don't have to add it every single day you are there. You can do a few "ride centric" days and go without on the others.

One thing to keep in mind is that Photopass is included with the price. Since we usually bought Photopass, that helped us justify the price. But you don't have to buy for everyone to get PP. Just one person can get the group's photos.

The regular legacy FP (paper FP) service at DLR already is free, so there really is no need to buy MP just to get FPs. The main difference is that MP is digital, so it allows you to get FPs without running to the actual machines. But if you are willing and able to go to the machines, then you can get FPs for free now.

Nope. In fact, I expect the cost of MP to go up tomorrow with the expected price increases. I'd bet it'll be around $15 to $20 per day.

Fastpass is free in Disneyland. You can go to the FP machines and pick up FP all day long. MaxPass simply lets you use your phone to do it from a distance. You can't book 60 days out like WDW (thank goodness!)

Highly doubt it. I foresee it rising in price though. Well worth the money and we only needed to purchase it for 2 out of 4 days. We made those two days ride and photo-centric.

:scared: I hope they don’t go up. $20 is a pretty steep increase. Esp if you’re a family of 4.

Many of us automatically start thinking in $5 or $10 increments when discussing price increases. Maybe that's the direction Disney plans on going, but I really wouldn't be surprised to see the first price increase be something smaller, $1-$3 per person per day for MaxPass. That still adds up for a family but sounds modest when looked at from the per person per day perspective. I compare it to parking prices which Disney usually increases by a buck or two each year. I guess we might find out tomorrow what Disney thinks the current market can take.

If it becomes "free" it'll be because they hiked the prices a lot. Hope they don't do that and they still leave it as an optional upgrade!

Here’s the thing-I would love for this service to be free or easily affordable. The more people using it, the better it works! When there are more people using it, there are more possibilities of people cancelling FPS and other people searching or refreshing can pick up FPS with a sooner return time; similar to WDW. When there are less people, less cancellations and more likely to just get a FP with a “normal” return time. I noticed that when I used Maxpass (it came with my AP) during busy days at Christmas/Halloween, I was able to get great passes with occasional immediate return times. But when I’ve visited during lesser crowd times, even with refreshing a bunch, it keeps the same FP time availability.

This is definitely in opposition to someone getting FPS without Maxpass. When it’s busier it’s more likely they will be stuck with a later return time, plus passes running out sooner. But lower crowd times will allow sooner return times and longer time before they run out.

And I have a polar opposite opinion. I think people with MP pull more FPs and the more people who have it, the faster the inventory will run out every day.

For me, MP isn't an expense that's worth it. I use the old system and I can't see that having MP would be significantly easier for us. However, it's because I'm often with friends who also don't have MP, we go fairly often, my AP already includes Photopass, and my kids are teens (often off on their own). For us, it's an extra expense we don't need. I know it's a great convenience for many but just wanted to say that you can do fine without it if it's a cost you'd like to avoid.

Disney and Free?
Not likely. The only thing at Disney that's free is ice water.

With the current ticket price increase I'm glad Disney kept MP at $10.
It's already a challenge for many to afford the cost of a trip to DLR.

Geemo

I think the price will most likely increase as well, it will not go to a free service.
