We are a family of 5. We have two children that are under 2 right now and one 8 yr old. We heard recently that one bedrooms would accommodate our family of 5 when our babies get older. So there is no need for us to buy more points. Is this the case? Can a one bedroom hold a family of 5 comfortably. I was told there were 2 queen beds and a pull out sofa or trundle bed. Can anyone with experience with the one bedrooms let us know if this is the case? Right now the studios are fine to stay in since we will be using the playpens. But for the future we wanted to see if the one bedrooms would be ok. We have never stayed at the one bedrooms. :Pinkbounc

This is a touchy subject....the rule is one bedrooms are 4 plus a child under 3....so you have that covered for the time being so you are following the "rules"

I PM'd you...

There are 2 queens OR a queen and a pullout. The 1 bedrooms have a king in the master bedroom and a queen size pullout in the livingroom.

According to the rules, DVC studios and 1 bedrroms allow 4 people and a child under 2. For 5 people you are supposed to use a 2 bedroom. Rules aside, you wouldn't be very comfortable in a studio or 1 bed once the kids get bigger. Disney will not supply towels, bedding or keys for a 5th person and you only have 1 bathroom.

Having travelled with teenagers, let me tell you the 2 bedroom is pure heaven! An extra bathroom, plenty of space, and a door you can shut if they tend to stay up later or get up earlier.

Uh oh... questions about room occupancy limits usually get very heated and are soon closed... but to answer your questions...

The posted limit of a one bedroom is 4 people with an additional child under 3 allowed. Anything over that is a breaking of the rules. Some people cheat the system and sneak in additional people. Disney does not check on room occupancy (at least they haven't up til now), but they will not provide any extra bedding or cots. Personally, I don't think I would be very comfortable in a one bedroom with 4 people, let alone 5. I would buy the extra points so you can vacation in comfort and according to the rules in the contract you signed, but only you can decide what is best for your situation.

5champs,
I can't comment on how comfortable you would be, but the 1 BR has 1 King in the BR part (not 2 Queens) and the LR has the fold out.

Our family likes to stretch out, so we always get a 2BR for the 3 of us. :)

As already stated, 1 BRs do NOT have 2 beds. Somehow, you've gotten incorrect information.

There's a King in the BR and a pullout sofa in the LR.

When the children are small, a 1-BR is certainly manageable if children/parents don't mind sharing sleeping accomodations. Though you may hear many people recite "the rules" to you in answer to this question, as long as you inform Member Services about the number of people that will be occupying your room when you make your reservation and they have no problems with it, you will be fine. With that said, a 2-BR is great and when the children get a little older, you will definitely want to look into this.

I’m jumping in before this gets locked. You can fit 5 in the 1 bedroom until the kids get a bit older. I do believe that when they start to grow, you will want a 2 bedroom because it does get tight. I have a family of 5, and have stayed in a 1 bedroom but will try not to in the future.

Good luck,

Your question asks if you would be comfortable.... For now maybe... but later... NO WAY.

As others have stated, there is a king in the master and a pull out sofa in the livingroom. For now, the littleones could bunk with you and the 8YO on the pull out... But as they get bigger... forget it.

Two bedrooms are more points, but IMO worth every point! You dont say what your HOME resort is.... but I would look into buying a few extra points.

After all... it isnt a vacation unless you can relax.

As to comfort, I know families bigger than five that vacation in a tent for weeks and are comfortable. I think only you know what level of comfort you expect.

There is a single bathroom in a one bedroom (I grew up in a house with three kids and a single bathroom, no big deal to us, but others think this is a problem). And unless you are going to sleep three to a bed somewhere, you will have someone camped on the floor.

If you ask member services or a guide this question, they will tell you that they only provide bedding for 4 but you can have 5. If you are upfront and tell member services you have 5 and they accept your reservation, it is not "sneaking" or "cheating". I agree that once your children are older it will not be comfortable.

We were a family of 5, you will need a two bedroom in a couple of years buy more points. Until the cildren reach the age of 4 you can still use the one bedroom but I can never figure out why people would do that. As you move along you will need more points for your family for more reasons then just the resort capacity. You will find yourself going to the parks less and using the resort more. i would think you would want the living room to used for something other than a bedroom. Buy more you will need it soon.

We too are a family of 5. When all 5 of us travel together, We get a 2 bedroom and DD and nana are in the second bedroom, I as well have 3 year old twins, and ds9. I keep all 3 boys in the master bedroom with me. Your older child can be on the pullout for a while, I would keep the 2 little ones in with you for awhile.
As for us we don't use the pullout at all. I travel with an air mattress for the master and put 2 boys on that and one is with me. I simply would not be comfortable with them in the other half of the 2 bedroom. The balcony and outside door make me distinctly uncomfortable. So to answer the question why would you stay in a 1 bedroom? for me I would never relax if they were in the other room so for me that makes much more sense.::yes:: ::yes::

We are a family of 5 with the 2 youngest being 1.5 and almost 3 the oldest is going to be 8 in Sept we had a 1 bdrm this past trip and can't really see it as a problem at all . when everyone gets older we will just bring an airmatress with us for our son to sleep on. We only have a 3 bedroom house with 1 bathroom and have no issues here at all we just have the girls in bunk beds. I say if you feel comfortable in a 1 bdrm then go for it when you feel you no longer fit well in there then upgrade to a 2bdrm. Our oldest daughter and our 3 year old sleep on the pullout and have no problems at all with it.

As stated previously, this subject gets too many inflamed responses and has been banned to the debate board for discussion purposes.

Stated occupancy for a 1 bedroom is 4 persons plus an infant under age 3
