Maximum 50 borrowed point question

I’m the type that likes to maximize my points as early as I can so I‘m typically booking everything with borrowed points - i.e. my 2019 vacation was booked with 2020 points, 2020 trip booked with 2021 points, etc. The email from Terri Schultz from DVC management was thankfully very clear that trips already booked with more than 50 borrowed points would be allowed to stand. Does anyone know if a previously booked trip counts towards the 50 point max or if its just a 50 point maximum on borrowed points allowed on trips going forward? That is, if I’ve already booked a trip using borrowed points, have I already used my 50 point allowance to borrow points or is it 50 additional points that I still borrow.

Unless I misunderstood the email, I thought members can borrow up to 50% of point allotment, not 50 points. I would imagine borrowing can be split into different reservations as long as the total borrowed remains less than 50% although I am not sure about this.

It’s definitely 50%, chat with DVC to be sure, but the most restrictive view is that if you, for example, borrowed 25% of a 100 point contract before the email went out, you only have 25% remaining to use.
Based on the warning on the website, they’re just being manually reviewed.

You are allowed to borrow up 50% of your points per use year and can borrow for two or more trips as long as you do not exceed the 50% limit

You are all right - it’s 50 percent no points! I completely misread that communication from DVC. Thank you for the clarification!

But the basic question still remains: the DVC notice said 50% of points per contract. I have multiple contracts (9, to be precise), all under one membership. I have two trips already booked using borrowed points...the total points borrowed over the 9 contracts is already right around 50%. But I clear all points from one contract before moving to borrow from another...so I still have 3 contracts with more than 50% of their points in them. Can I still borrow up to 50% from those contracts, even though that borrowing will take me over the 50% total from all my contracts? I'd planned to call MS to ask this question next week (when my 7-month window opens and the need to borrow more for a planned upcoming trip arises). But if anyone here already knows the answer, I'd appreciate the advance notice. Thanks.

Members who want to borrow Points to complete a reservation will temporarily only be able to borrow up to 50 percent of their future Use Year Points per contract, as permitted by your Home Resort Rules and Regulations.
This is part of the email we received. It should help with part of the question. But MS will be able to answer your more complicated question. Because they put in the "as of today" maybe you'll be okay to borrow more from your other contracts. I hope it works out for you.

Based on the actual language, you should be able to borrow a few more points from the contracts left,

However, since you also have exceed it for so many of the others, even grandfathered, I’d get confirmation from MS.

They grandfathered everything in that was already done but I wouldn’t be confident to borrow more until you had it confirmed,

I just got off the phone with MS and they confirmed that it's a per-contract restriction...we even went through the specific details of my existing reservations (using borrowed points) and what I want to do in the future...I will wind up w/more than 50% of my total points borrowed, but I can borrow 50% of the points in the contracts that are not already fully borrowed against.

I also asked about modifying existing (grandfathered) reservations...that's trickier, but can be done...clearly, I need to call MS to do it rather than risking doing it online given the borrowed points restrictions...but so long as it's a modification to an existing reservation, it should be fine.

Finally, on an unrelated issue: I asked about the Florida Resident Discover Disney tickets I bought for guests I was taking May 10-May 15 who are now rescheduled for 8/1-8/6....so far, those tix are extended only thru 7/31, but the Disney tickets people said it's likely Disney will further extend them...and if I get to my FP window (June 1) for the rescheduled 8/1 trip I should call them back and they'd work with me to figure things out so I can do fast pass reservations even if I'm still waiting on news as to whether the Discover Disney expiration date might still move.

So, Disney made me VERY happy this morning. Hope things work out just as well for everyone else having to rework trips as a result of this mess we're in...

Happy planning to all of us...

Glad to have it confirmed as I have the same situation! It is also good to know that modifications should be done by calling MS!

Yesterday I decided to go ahead and move my August reservation to June. One of the contracts used for it had > 50% borrowed in. I guess I'll find out if it gets cancelled because I did it online instead of via MS. My assumption is since there was no new borrowing, no one will even look at it (I assume that's what they're looking for), but we'll see...
