It’s the same barcode, so you can show them either the phone or the printout, but yes it does become a ticket on your phone. They’ll still give you a paper ticket at first use either way, but the phone ticket can be used for admission the entire trip.

I'm struggling with this very thing now! I hate paying the extra $21.00 ('gate' price vs LMT) but the ease of buying through the app and adding MP then and there makes it so tempting!

I just pre-purchased our 3-day tickets with MP directly from Disney for July. My thought on the savings was the possibility of MP increasing in price before we go in July and negating the savings (because the now-defunct Express Bus service price increased the day after we purchased it on our last trip)!

Can you give more detail on the “now defunct Express Bus”? Do you mean the Disneyland Resort express?

No, last year, for about 5 months, there was an Express Park Hopper bus at Disney World. It was fantastic. We loved it but the price randomly went up without any notice. I just worry that the Max Pass pricing will do the same before we get there in July.
