We are 2 couples going to WDW in December. We don't do rides (except for the calmest of them---no water, no motion sickness). We have some activities planned (La Nouba, Chef Mickey, MVMCP, 3 park tour).

Can anyone suggest some in park 'mature' MUST SEES that won't make my hubby nuts? (He just is not a kid-oriented person and still believes Disney is just for kids---I'm working on him, though!!)

Thanks!!

what are his interest?

if space - then Mission:Space - yes it is back on motion sickness. but if you are a space fan - it is a must.

same with test track - not for everyone - but if you are interested in the way cars are tested (okay these aren't really cars - but I still think it does a good job)

how does he feel about California - if he likes it then Soarin'

the ocean - then living seas.

these are all in Epcot.

MK - is cute. Haunted mansion is fun!!!,

need more information as to what he is interested in.

In addition to the ideas that you will certainly get here. Go the library or your local book store and have a look at Birnbaum's Guide to WDW for Adults.

Well, he's not going to totally avoid children. We have been going since the kids were little - they are now both in college. Here are some of our not-so-kid oriented favorites:

MGM/Disney Studio
Great Movie Ride
Indiania Jones Stunt Show
Fantasmic
Tower of Terror - but take the chicken route if you don't like rides...you'll be able to see the theming but can skip the "ride"
Motorcars Stunt Show
Backstage Tour
Beauty and the Beast Show

Magic Kingdom
Hall of President's
Pirates of the Caribbean (a ride, but very calm)
Jungle Cruise (same)
It's a Small World (same...unless you don't like singing)
Tiki House
Peter Pan
Train that goes around the park
Mickey's Philharmagic

Animal Kingdom
It's a Bug's Life
Safari Ride
Conservation Station
Festival of the Lion King
Any of the trails
The bird show? - not been to that but heard it's nice

Epcot
Energy Adventure
Spaceship Earth
Living with the Land
Soarin' (it's a ride, but quite awesome!)
World Showcase (including American Adventure)

All of these parks have shows, parades and various street entertainers ... it is a must to get one of the entertainment guides and take a look at what you might be interested in seeing and then base your touring on that so you aren't having to walk too much.

You find that some of the attractions in World Showcase will have you standing to watch a circle-vision show ... if you are elderly this may not be something you choose to do. Ask at the entrance if you don't know.

There is lots to see, people to watch, food to eat, stores to shop in, and many, many benches throughout all of the parks.

Don't forget to check out the Boardwalk for some evening entertainment - there is a piano "bar" for adults only as well as ESPN Club. We enjoy Bob Jackson at the Riverroost Lounge, Port Orleans Riverside - he does a show which is free from Wed-Sat each week. There will be some children, but it is a bar so you can drink enough to soften the blow. Mostly, it is adults acting like they are children though.

Don't forget that you can always ride on the ferries in the Magic Kingdom area (I know you said no water, but assume you mean water-rides). Especially if the weather is nice out, there is nothing more relaxing than to ride one of the resort launches to and from the various resorts (Poly, GF, CR, Ft Wilderness, WL). Remember that Port Orleans also has a boat from their resort to Downtown Disney which takes you by the golf courses and docks near the Rainforest Cafe.

You'll have a great time ... lots to see and do!!

Thanks all! VAN that is a super list! I'm going to print it out.

We're not trying to avoid children--after all we brought our own kids many years ago! More like avoid "kiddie" activities. I may have to leave him on the park bench while I do some of the fun things (absolutely no motion sickness inducing ones though!) Train and boatrides sound just right!

I don't think we're "elderly" yet (still under 60!) but I'm the one who is the BIG kid!

Thanks for the suggestion of the Birnbaum's book--haven't seen anything like it in our bookstores--I'll look in Amazon.

Thanks again! :thanks: :disrocks:

I thought American Adventure was great for its Patriotism. Also, I loved eating at the Sci-Fi Dine Inn. It's great for those of us who remember the Drive-Inns (and movies) or the 50s. Things have changed-when I took DS (22) there, I had to explain the speaker things next to us, as nowadays the technology is such that they play thru your car radio.

You might also want to looking into the book Passporter it is very detailed. You should consider just hotel hopping to see the various holiday decorations within the resort areas, they are incredible that time of year.

Have a great trip!!!

If I needed to convince my hubby that Disney is a cool place I would take him to Boma or Jiku for dinner at Animal Kingdom Lodge; and then check out the lobby, the savannah viewing areas, and the Zawadi Marketplace. It's just a stunning place to visit, for all ages. The wine selections, the decor, the food, the artwork - they're just amazing.

We spent practically the whole summer going to Disney at least once a week without going on any of the rides. We had such a fabulous, adult-oriented, romantic time. One week we'd dine at Jiko, then Artist Point, have drinks at Mizner's Lounge in the Grand Floridian (fabulous orchestra, btw), eat dinner at the Concourse Steakhouse in the Contemporary and then monorail over to the Poly to listen to the wonderful Hawaiian singer while sipping a tropical drink. We'd stroll over to the GF, tour the shops, have a drink, jump on the monorail and whiz past the MK all lit up at night to take us back to the Contemporary. For our anniversary we had an amazing Bali-themed couples massage at the Dolphin. Or we'd stroll the Boardwalk over to World Showcase, have a bite to eat, a drink, listen to some music and then stroll back again.

We had such a blast, we may never go on a ride again. :)

pbnjrockette,

I absolutely agree with VAN about all the things to do w/o riding anything.
The various shows in each park could really fill up a day. We love to just sit
and watch Streetmosphere shows at MGM. The Lion King show at AK is absolutely gorgeous. And, in December.. just go to the various resorts and look at the decorations. Also, SSR, FW, and WL all have horse drawn carriage rides in the winter months. If you'll have a car, go over to Celebration and see their Christmas decorations. All of the deluxe resorts have lobby entertainment the few weeks before Christmas (various singing groups, bell choirs, etc). Bob Jackson at POR/River Roost is great......we make it a point to stop by at least once during our trips. I've also recently also heard about Elliott Dyson at POFQ/Scat Cat Lounge (we haven't heard him play yet, but, do plan to when we're there next week). We're two fifty something couples with college age kids (kids aren't going on this trip).
