He was on Live the Kelly and Michael today. He does not look good at all. Not only has he not aged well but there was something really weird looking about his mouth. Just curious if anyone else caught it.

On a separate note, he's going to play Oscar Madison in a new version of the Odd Couple. Can't help it but he will always be Chandler Bing!!!

I did not see this today; however, I've seen the previews for the Odd Couple and I agree that he has not aged well. I feel, though, that maybe he has aged "normally" but so many actors have had work done that those who don't look awful? Not sure. But I always feel bad about thinking that for the few that sort of go through aging like the rest of us. But he is about 6 years younger than me and I think I look better than him!

Its funny you say that about his mouth. He was on Graham Norton about a month ago promoting his London play and there was something going on with him. His mouth seemed odd and his speech was weird. It wasn't like he was drunk and slurring but more like he had a mild stroke or nerve damage. I actually googled it to see if something had happened to him but all I found was lots of people wondering the same thing.

If you go back & watch the final years of friends (think - after marrying Monica), he had that same thing going on with his mouth. It just wasn't quite as pronounced.

I noticed the mouth thing, too, when I watched the first few episodes of "Odd Couple" last season.

He's the same age as me and I think he looks awful and way older than he is.

I tried to watch The Odd Couple last season, but Matthew Perry's speech was distracting me. I also looked it up, to see if he had a stroke, or some other medical issue. I didn't find anything either. As PP said, just a lot of people wondering the same thing.

I didn't see him on TV, but I've been watching through the whole series of Friends for the past few months on Netflix, one episode a night. I'm on season 6 and I just noticed yesterday that he was slurring his words and talking a bit funny, so I Googled to see when he had the drug problems. He did say he can't remember any of season 3 through 6, and he went into rehab during season 7. Maybe he has brain damage from excessive drug use?

DH brought the mouth thing to my attention when we watched him in the first season of "The Odd Couple." A PP mentioned the slurred speech and it made me think of my MIL. She started slurring her words too. At first it was hardly noticeable, but over time it kept getting worse and worse. It took years before she was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Since you're rewatching Friends in order, you must have also noticed that at some point (I think Season 3 or 4), Matthew either got false teeth, caps, or dental implants because when the show started he did not have perfect, straight teeth, but during the middle, his smile changed and so did his speech. The drug usage is apparent to me as his weight fluctuated so much. I own the entire series and there is quite a change from the end of a season to the start of the next. The one that strikes me the most is his proposal to Monica and the next season begins and he looks 40 lbs lighter and it's supposed to be a day or two later because the gang is heading to dinner to celebrate the engagement. I absolutely adore MP and think his best look was Season 9. I don't think he looks horrible now but he does appear to have aged quite a bit.

One of my co-workers just got dentures and her speech and mouth/chin have totally changed which is why I think that may be some of what the change is in MP.

I have a friend who sat next to Matthew Perry on a flight when Friends was a current show. They struck up a casual conversation, the usual kind of thing one does on a plane. My friend asked Matthew what line of work he was in, and he politely explained he was an actor. My friend says--and I'm not making this up--
have you done anything I might have seen? Matthew goes on to tell my buddy he's on a show called Friends. My buddy was well aware of the program & its success, but said MP didn't look anything like he does on TV. Perry said something to the effect of "It's the makeup and lighting." He told my friend that he often hears how different he looks IRL.

Didn't see the recent appearance, but hope he's ok. He's a talented guy, I'd like to have him around for a long time to come.

I saw him this morning and agree, I was shocked how bad he looked...poor guy, time and his lifestyle have not been kind to him.

So I just watched the clip on Kelly & Michael on youtube and I didn't think it was all that bad. I guess I expected worse after everyone's comments about how bad he looked. Clearly he is not coloring his hair but he had just flown in from London and I'm sure there was exhaustion from being awake for a while. I didn't hear any slurring and he didn't seem the least bit "out of it" to me.

What kind of drugs was he on?

Ds has a friend that had a bad pill addiction. He is clean now but it permanently affected his speech. From the way y'all are describing it, sounds very similar.

If my memory serves me correctly, he was addicted to prescription pain pills after an accident.

I saw the Graham Norton interview too and wondered what was up with his speech. He sounded very nasal or like his throat was swollen. He was about to begin a stage show in the UK, that's why he wasn't available to be there in person for the Jim Burrows tribute.
