Just curious as to why Matterhorn is in refurb? Anything special or just maintenance?

I read on here that it had to do with changing the sleds a bit. I'm sorry I can't remember the guy's name but Hydroguy linked it about a week ago. It had all kinds of refurb info in it.

It is going to be down for months off and on. They are replacing the bob sleds, doing some new things inside, sprucing up and repainting the mountain.

Here is a quote from Al Lutz, from MiceAge.

But from July 11th until Labor Day weekend the Matterhorn will close again for the first phase of a two-phase major refurbishment. The Matterhorn will then stay open for the fall and Christmas season, before closing in early January for the first six months of 2012. It’s during that six month period when the new bobsleds with lap bars will be installed, the mountain will be painted and refurbished cosmetically, and it’s also when Tony Baxter hopes to cram as many technology upgrades and new effects in as his budget will allow.

Thank you! Lap bars should have been installed ages ago!!

While I agree that lap bars should have been installed years ago and it can get awkward when you're riding with casual acquaintances, I will honestly miss the "ultimate date night" aspect of the classic seating situation *sigh*.
