Matterhorn..

When we were there around MLK weekend there was one line that started on the tomorrowland side and split further up. You could not enter the queue from the front, eveyone had to loop around the side and then split later.

Hmmm, not sure I agree with either conclusion. I don't know that I would say "most people are locals." It's an endless debate, but I think it truly depends on the day and the time as to whether there are more locals or out-of-towners. I definitely think that if there are long lines, most are NOT locals.

As for "most people prefer the Tomorrowland side," count me as a local who likes the Fantasyland side.

There is no debate that most people are locals. Most people are locals, with locals accounting for approximately 70% of Disneyland's guests.

What side do most people prefer and why? :goodvibes

Tomorrowland side-- i feel that it's faster(the ride itself not the line)!!! i don't know if anyone has noticed but the fantasyland side the ride itself feels slower

Probably because most people are local's, and most people prefer the Tomorrowland side. A few weeks ago while there, after the split, it was a walk-on to the Fantasyland side, and a about ~5 minute wait for the Tomorrowland side.

Needless to say, we waited the five minutes. :)

i don;t know what the locals have to do with it. but i prefer Tomorrowland side as i said above....

This is how it was explain to me by a CM:

On the side of Tomorrowland, the bobsleds run on the inside of the mountain & it is supposed to be faster.

On the side of Fantasyland, the bobsleds run on the outside & it is supposed to be slower.

Everytime we have been at DL, they have had both sides open & they operate as different lines, right for Fantasyland side only, left for Tomorrowland side only.

The best experience is to ride both sides & choose your favorite. I personally love the Fantasyland side during the nightime. :goodvibes

We prefer the FL side, if it's open we ride that side every time. :) We like it better, it's smoother and at night the FL lights are amazing. :)

Wow, I didn't realize there were 2 options! We will be riding w/6 & 3 yr olds, so I am wondering if we should do the Fantasyland one. How many can ride together?

We were just there on Sunday and they only had one line open (tomorrowland side) and once you got to the front entrance you could choose which side to go on. We chose the FL side because people had been ignoring it and the line was shorter (we walked halfway down the first line before we had to stop while the TL side was still out the front entrance).

Wouldn't you know it..the OTHER side got here faster than us (I was watching who we would have been behind if we gone to the other side). My son was noting that the TL side had more cast members helping load (checking seat belts etc) so they were dispatching the bobsleds at a much faster rate.

HUMPH! And I thought I was being smart.

I never thought of the the layout of the tracks like that. Next time I'll pay attention.

We always ride the TL side @ night. I'm going to try the FL side now. :)

Two can ride to a seat. :)

We were there Sunday, too, and rode right before the park opened to the public. We went on the FL side first, then the TL side, which had the longer line. Even so, the wait was pretty short. :goodvibes

Mary Jo, the teacup ride has the BEST lights, so fun to see as you come around the corner. :)
