Matterhorn vs Rsr for ride chicken

What did you think of Matterhorn?

To be fair, the Matterhorn is my favorite ride at DLR, so I'm kind of biased. As far as G forces, etc., it's a non-factor on the Matterhorn. The only thing that might bother you is the jerkiness as it's an old coaster. I did get a tiny bruise from the seat belt once riding it, but it was worth it.

I don't remember any hills on RSR, but it's been two years. I've been getting in trouble on spinning rides and high g rides but I don't remember any issues with RSR. I get headaches on Matterhorn and it can hurt my back (and I'm a relatively small person). But I don't think it was g-forces that gave the headache. It's way bumpier and of course my son prefers the Tomorrowland side (bumpier).

I'm a ride chicken as well! I love RSR and hate Matterhorn! Same goes for Space Mtn and Splash Mtn, no thanks.

I also thought RSR was a smoother ride. But, if you do go on Matterhorn, I recommend the side by Fantasyland. It's smoother, and you don't have that small, sharp drop that is on the Tomorrowland side.

+1. The Tomorrowland side is much rowdier. I took my 5-year-old on the Fantasyland side and she loved it. It is bumpy and the seats aren't the most comfortable. I love the Matterhorn but always feel like I need to sit on a hemorrhoid donut after the ride. :headache:

When you guys talk about Fantasyland side vs. Tomorrowland side, what does that mean? Are there two different queues? Or does the queue split at some point and one part is closer to FL and the other is closer to TL?

Yes. There is one main queue, then it splits off to the left (Tomorrowland side) and right (Fantasyland side).

If you get the chance, do both sides because they are a different ride.

RSR is much smoother and milder than Matterhorn, especially after the botched refurb a couple of years ago.

On Matterhorn, I always fold up a coat or sweater and sit on that. It cushions some of the bumpiness.

Update! We went on
3 times! Lol went on the tmrwland side the 2nd time... Felt WAY faster and jerkier!! Also did btmrr 2x, once in the dark and that seemed faster then to me. Chickened out of space because I don't think my motion sickness could handle total darkness for a whole ride. Wonder if I had a chance to do RSR if it would still bother me as much? We are on our way though so I guess I won't know! Thanks for all the info!!

There are some bumps near the end of the ride before you hit the finish line. They don't look like much if you weren't on the ride, but when you're heading towards them at 40 mph there is the brief thought that you're going to fly over them Dukes of Hazzard style.

I'd just note that the top speed of RSR is about 40 MPH, but Matterhorn is under 30 MPH. However, Matterhorn is a roller coaster and uses really tight turns and various visual tricks to make it seem faster.

There's some jerking motions on RSR at slower speeds, but for the most part the fastest part is at the end with the "race" against the other car. I don't think it's that jarring compared to most roller coasters.

State Route 190 through Death Valley has all these little hills following the terrain, and a speed limit of 50 MPH. It kind of felt like the little bunny hills that are often found at the end of a roller coaster, only you're maintaining speed. There was that feeling of weightlessness after hitting each peak and the sense that you're going to fly over each hill. If you love RSR, then you'll love this road. It does get a little hot during summer though. :car:

I absolutely LOVE RSR..and to me it is fun and smooth! No headaches, no aches, no nothing. The Matterhorn...yeah that is a different story! I love the ride and will go on it, but it's pretty jerky. The last week I rode it twice in a row without getting off (tomorrowland side) and it killed. The bumpiness and being thrown around takes away from the fun. I was hoping that we could ride the fantasayland side but it was not open that day..bummer. The next day however I rode the fantasyland side 3 times and was FINE! I always prefer that side and especially even more so now due to the new yetis! I can ride the Fantasyland side over and over with actually enjoying it...can't say the same for the Tomorrowland side.

Funny part is my family did the tmrwland side without me. I tell them the other side is slower and smoother. They ride with me and say no it's the same. We ride the tmrw side again later and my 8 year old says, what did they do to that ride??? I def felt it in my neck and butt!'

Matterhorn is too violent for my body to handle. RSR all the way. Matterhorn is so awful and panful.

So many people hate the Matterhorn, but the line is always so long unless it's first thing in the morning, lol.

It's my favorite. I love the theme, tbh.

Because of the crowds only got to go on RSR and the Matterhorn once each last week...funny thing is we had just spent the prior week touring around SoCal and Arizona and ended up on old Rt 66 north from I-40 into Oatman and Kingman. That portion of the Rt 66 must have been the inspiration for RSR because it had the same curves and dips as RSR...but for miles on end (and at 60mph!). My girls loved almost every last minute of it! But then again, any long stretch of desert highway is probably about the same...just seemed apropos that we were actually on Rt 66.

Even though I thought it was a blast-from-the-past for me (last time I was on them was over 40 years ago), Matterhorn seemed really jerky and "hurt" after awhile...really felt like an older rollercoaster that had been left to deteriorate. The tight turns made the ride feel faster than I'm sure it was, but didn't really "enjoy" it at times. It was a fun little rollercoaster & would do it again if the line wasn't too long...but it's not a must do in my book.

My 12-yo did NOT like it at all and was crying all the way, while my 9-yo that it was right up there with SM (which she loves), though she likes SM a little better (w/ California Screamin' on top). Go figure...
