Is that common for them to close 2 E tickets in July?
They won’t be closed at the same time, so its not as bad as it looks on a list. The real question is why is the Matterhorn going to be closed for so long.

My guess is that they are going to replace the cars again since there are a lot of injuries being caused by these cars. Seriously, they are painful and very difficult for tall guests to get in and out of.What the heck is going on? First BTMRR and now Matterhorn for weeks? They just did a major rehab on that one with the new cars. I wonder if they are just trying to get everything they can done before next June so they can be operating everything at full capacity when the crowds get bananas.
While I love the attraction, I completely agree. Last time I rode it in April I had a huge bruise on my leg and thigh from getting slammed around. The time before that, it threw out my husband's back. Now that I'm thinking of it, I didn't realize how often we got injured from riding it!My guess is that they are going to replace the cars again since there are a lot of injuries being caused by these cars. At least, I truly hope they do....really you aren't missing anything at the moment aside from A LOT of bruises.
Yeah, I just wish more people would insist on written reports when getting injured on the ride so that Disney knows and there are written records of the injuries. While I love the attraction, I completely agree. Wow Matterhorn is reAlly that painful?! Was debating if we should try this with our six year old (he likes kid coasters but nervous about not sitting next to mom or dad) and then saw the refurb so I don't know if it will be up when we go (early sept). But now I'm not sure I'm going to like it lol. Afraid I might need an extra visit to the Chiro after our trip
Thanks for the tips! Pretty crazy that it requires all that to not be in pain! You'll read here that many people recommend that you lean forward and hold onto the handle. You need to brace yourself for the impact of the sled behind you even before the ride starts. It will slam into your sled as you're waiting to take off. My DD didn't listen as I was trying to explain this and she ended up with a sore neck for a few days. My other DD and I were fine on the ride. Also, there are two different tracks for the ride. The one on the right is slower and the one on the left is faster and bit more thrilling. If you're worried ride it on the right side but still hold on and don't let your bent knees flail about.
The problem for me and many others is I can't reach the handles because of how I sit in the car and where they are located. If they had handles in better spirits, it would help, but overall the current cars are a very poor design. You'll read here that many people recommend that you lean forward and hold onto the handle. Wish I had this advice back in December. I rode Matterhorn then and I'm pretty sure it gave me whiplashYou'll read here that many people recommend that you lean forward and hold onto the handle. Hahaha! My first thought was “Why would the people want so many bananas?” Got it now. What the heck is going on? First BTMRR and now Matterhorn for weeks? Matterhorn says “Fall 2018” so who knows? Recently I think we’ve they’ve been doing short refurbs (BTMRR) but not putting end dates on the schedule for a bit. What are the chances that Tiki Birds, Matterhorn, and Pinocchio will be back open in early October?
I see a chiro monthly and I always need a trip a few days after I get back from Disneyland. Matterhorn for sure is the worst of all the rides for me, but tbh the others will get you too. Even the unexpected like quick stops on little kid rides at the end, boats hitting your boat POTC... Just count on it if you’re a chiro regular.Wow Matterhorn is reAlly that painful?! Not everyone considers this a painful ride. I ride it often and am never in pain. A few months ago our group rode it back to back and I was fine when we got off. I was in the second or third seat, I think. I'm not discounting that some people may be sore after the ride, but in my experience I'm fine (my adult daughter, too). Another person in my same group that rode back to back did say that he was 'in pain' (that was Craig if you listen to the Connecting with Walt podcast). I will say that this is definitely not a smooth ride, but if you want the less joltier side, go on the Fantasyland side. I always choose the Tomorrowland side because I like that little dip in the middle. Thanks for the tips! Pretty crazy that it requires all that to not be in pain!
I guess I should expect to need an extra adjustment when I get back. I hadn't considered all the other rides that could trigger that pain. Like I said Matterhorn is the worst for me but I still ride it multiple times a trip because I simply adore the ride. The above advice on how to ride is solid, it’s what I do as well. All that said if you have serious spinal issues you are trying to address with your chiro right now absolutely skip Matterhorn (and Indy! Indy is much more padded so you don’t have the pain but if you’re having back issues it’s killer).
Good to know there are options. Are the cast members pretty understanding if you ask for one side over the other? Not everyone considers this a painful ride. I ride it often and am never in pain. Yes, you can usually pick the side you want to go on.Good to know there are options. Are the cast members pretty understanding if you ask for one side over the other?
