Math Wizards---Can you figure this out?

There are 7 girls in a bus.
Each girl has 7 backpacks.
In each backpack, there are 7 big cats.
For every big cat there are 7 little cats.

Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

Blech, I've done this before, and I don't know the answer off the top of my head. I know that the first time I did it I got it wrong though.

I am by no means a math wizard and am probably no where near the correct answer but this is what I came up with:

7 girls X 2 legs = 14 legs
7 girls X 7 backpacks = 49 big cats
49 big cats X 4 legs = 196 legs
49 big cats X 7 little cats = 343 little cats
343 little cats X 4 legs = 1372 legs

add the legs: 14 + 196 + 1372 = 1582

I knew I would get it wrong! I missed that there were 7 big cats in each backpack! I thought there was 1 big cat in each bag

I think this is one of those trick questions... there are fourteen legs in the bus, the rest of the legs are in the backpacks.

7 girls = 14 legs

7 girls each have 7 bags- 49 bags

Each bag has 7 big cats- 49 bags*7 big cats = 343 big cats

343 big cats*4 legs each= 1372

343 big cats*7 little cats = 2401 little cats

2401 little cats*4 legs each = 9604


9604 + 1372 + 14 = 10990

That's what I came up with, but I'm terrible at math. But it seems others came up with it too!

(Not calling anyone with the same number bad at math. I just don't trust myself!)

We don't know for sure if the bus driver is on the bus. However, I think you're on the right track. I think there are two answers and that's the trick. The first is without the bus driver and the second is with (first answer + 2).
