How is it that rack rate for a garden view room at Riverside on Mousesavers for summer season (7-6 through 7-13) is listed at $240 a night with taxes. When I searched the dates on Orbitz without the additional 15% they are currently offering, that same room for the same dates comes out to $241 a night with taxes. That is no discount. It's not even the summer rate being offered.

It may be that the room category you are looking for is not discounted or available.

None of them are adding up. Even the standard rooms come out to be $2 more than rack rate.

I just did the same search on Orbitz and the garden view room is listed at $213 per night (+tax). I suspect the discounted garden view for POR maybe sold out as the per night cost on the Disney website is also $213 per night (+tax) and has no discount available. Also I noticed the season/rack rate list over on Mousesavers doesn't show the same prices for the date ranges that the actual Disney website has for more than a few of the hotels during a few different seasons.

If Orbitz can't get a discounted room, they quote rack rate, just like Disney. And that's what I see on Orbitz - the Garden room doesn't have the "up to 25% off" text next to it, like some other room categories do, and it's showing as $241. Why it's $1 higher than Disney is not clear; they seem to be adding roughly $1 to the rack rate for no good reason. If you try to book via Disney, you see that the Garden view rooms are not available at the discounted rate, but are available at full price.

When I checked Aug 10-12, which is also in Summer season, the Garden view rooms are available at the discount rates on Disney. I get $240/night for regular rates on Disney or $180/night with the discount, and $181/night on Orbitz, which is roughly 25% off as expected plus the extra $1. If I add the REVIEW15 code that MouseSavers lists, then the rate goes down to $157/night, which is just under 15% off (Orbitz doesn't take the 15% off the tax, and of course they add their $1).

So I'm not seeing any huge discrepancy, other than Orbitz adding a mysterious extra $1/night, but that's pretty common for OTAs. Charge an extra $1/night and over time it adds up to extra money. Most people don't quibble over minor differences in price. It's the "extra profit" fee.

Disney shows room rates without tax, but MouseSavers shows rates with tax. That's almost certainly the discrepancy. When I check some Summer rates, MouseSavers is correct once you add tax.

Ahhh ok! Thanks this makes so much more sense to me now!

Riverside Garden rooms are no longer available for the summer promo for 07/06 - 07/13 dates, only rack rate. Riverside does have the following available for the summer promo: King Bed at $188 (normally $236), Royal standard at $212 (norm $265) all other Royals at $216 (norm $270).

Is it just me, or has Disney priced the term "moderate" right out of their moderate resorts?

I like the Mousesavers rack rates pages as a resource, but recently for 2015 pricing I've found discrepancies between the MouseSavers info and what disneyworld.com is showing for dates I research. For example, Summer period rates for All-Stars are listed higher on Mousesavers than what a sample booking on disneyworld.com will show. So while I think the Mousesavers pages are great, I'm also checking the non-discounted rates are on disneyworld.com before I draw any conclusions. I understand Disney does adjust rates based on supply/demand.

EDIT: dmunsil below reminds me that the Mousesavers pages include the rate+tax, whereas disneyworld.com shows the per night rate and then adds taxes at the end. So the Mousesavers listings are indeed accurate.

As mentioned above, the difference is tax. The quoted rate on Disneyworld.disney.go.com for All-Star Sports for a standard room is $133 weekday and $158 weekend for Summer. Add 13% tax and it's $150.29 and $178.54, which MouseSavers rounds to $150 and $179.

Disney does not typically adjust rack rates based on supply and demand; they adjust their discount percentages and the number and generosity of PIN codes they send out.

Moderate? What's moderate? For Disney moderate is actually Moderate. If that makes sense. Once Wilderness Lodge was considered moderate. It's the between of Value and Deluxe. The price is irrelevant unfortunately.
