Matching family t-shirts?

Yay or nay? I'm thinking of ordering matching t-shirts for our Disney trip. We are a family of four and 2 grandmothers will be going as well. Our boys will 4 when we go. Are matching shirts too cheesy? Or will we look like a cute family celebrating? Do alot of families wear matching shirts? If I get them if we will wear them just one day at the parks, probably our first day.

We made matching shirts for every day of our last trip. (14 days in all) It was a lot of fun making them. We actually took grandparents with us on that trip and they wore the shirts, too. We got a lot of fun comments. Everyone loved them. Also, I've heard that the CM's love it because they can easily tell how many are in your party. I just went down to the Creative Disigns Board. So many wonderfully talented disigners down there who do great work. They also give directions how to iron the images on your own shirts. Very easy. Oh, we made the Mickey Mouse head tie-dye shirts. That was a fun project and they turned out pretty cool, too.

We did them for both trips with DNiece and DNephew. It was lots of fun - the pictures look great. We got all kinds of comments from CMs too, so the kids really liked it (they were 6 and 8, then 8 and 10 for the 2 trips). The other benefit is it was so much easier to keep track of the group - I used bright colors, so it was easy to spot kids or DH in the crowd.

We haven't done it yet with DS, but likely will as he gets a bit older (only 2 on our last trip) - maybe something to do with the Jan 2011 trip.

The t-shirts are something we just wear at the parks. The kids may wear them after, but DH and I generally put our Disney clothes away and take out for the next trip.

I made them for our last trip, and it was great! I wasn't sure how it would go over - DH wasn't too sure about them, but once we were there they were a hit. It's probably one of the few places I would do them though!
The cast members loved it, pics turned out great, and at DHS ALL of the floats in the Block Party Parade made comments about our "Army of Blue" which the kids thought was great that they got pointed out over everyone else around us. It also made it easy to find everyone.
The only ones I won't do next time is for the travel day, DH didn't like that people were staring at us at restaurants and stuff on the drive down.

NAY, NAY, A THOUSAND TIMES NAY! I think they are cheesy and sometimes you will get snarky comments from people. I got talked into it during our last trip. Never again!

We do them to some degree. We always get a shirt for that year when we get there and wear that around one day. We also do "themed" things...

For instance, we are Oregon Duck Football fans (only college team licensed to use donald!), so we wear duck gear one day... this year it will be two days though since our trip spans two game days. People often want to know where we got the shirts

My DH keeps trying to talk me into a disney star wars themed day, lol.

YES!
Disney is probably the only place in the world that I would do this, too! Lots of families are "matching" there, it is cool to be silly there! Also, it really helps you eyeball your family members and keep track of each other. We had one set of real matching shirts that I did myself. I did it really simple, downloaded a picture from the Internet, added what we wanted, and e-mailed it to a shirt shop who printed an iron on and made me the shirts. Could have done it at home but that would have involved more effort which I didn't have to give . On the other days we wore sort of matching t-shirts, like everyone had a mickey mouse shirt on, or we all wore red, etc. I found that the kids were willing the do anything while there. Once home -- no way!

Who cares if someone thinks it's cheesy....There is actually a practical reason for having matching shirts especially when travelling with small children. If you get separated from one of your kids, what description do you give the CM? A blue shirt....how many shades of blue are there? BUT if you have on an identical shirt, you point to it and they know exactly what your kid is wearing!

We prefer the Mickey head tie dyes and other tie dyed shirts--Yes, I make almost all of ours--because they stand out so much better! Even with the cool iron-on designs, the solid colors tend to blend in more with everyone else. You canNOT miss the tie dye prints! I've even done a Dinosaur t-shirt using the Mickey Head method.

Personally, I love to see groups, family or other-wise, in their matching shirts. It's fun and all part of the atmosphere. While I lack the creativity and time to make some for our gang, we will indeed find some. Since we are Nov travellers, all the year-dated shirts are drastically reduced and we plan to take advantage of that. Not quite as personalized, for sure, but they are great souveniers.

I know there is no way my family would ever wear matching shirts! I am lucky to get them to wear the same color family!

While I think some of them are cute, there have been times that I really feel sorry for many of the people wearing them. Especially men and teens. I have seen some of them that just look miserable!!

I thought matching shirts were cheesy.

But then I got the creative bug and did a bunch of matching shirts for last year's vacation. We got GREAT reactions from cast members and guests!

Set #1 was iron-ons. Each shirt had a different black silhouette of a Peter Pan character with a quote from the movie. So we were matching but not totally matching.

Set #2 was done with fabric paint (LOVE fabric paint, lasts much longer than iron-ons). I bought everyone in our extended party blue shirts from Michael's and made a Mickey Mouse head stencil. Everyone painted their own MM head on their shirt, so once again we matched but still had some individuality.

I will be doing shirts for this year but they will be a little different -- my girls won't be helping to make them as the trip is a surprise! Maybe I'll even work the shirts into the surprise.... still planning...

we matched all 4 kids last trip (just the kids) on 2 days, and then just the 3 youngest on some of the days (oldest dd was 14 then. She didn't want to match at all, gave in for 2 days. DH, OTOH, can't stand matching.)

(Yes, I guess my answer here is definitely YES...we are doing shirts...all matching colors, but not matching iron ons...they will be specific to the child...)

I love the tye-dyed shirts. My hubby also didn't want to do the matching shirts. We did have our boys all in Green lightening McQueen shirts, but that was it. He said he would go for the tye-dye because even though its the same design, no-one tye-dye is the same.

For the kids, up to a certain age, yes. For example, this trip is just me and 3 of the kids, dad and baby are staying home. I made tie dyes for the 11 and 5 yr old, but the 13 yr old and I will not be wearing them. But no for adults, In our family that is. I dont pay attention to what others are wearing, but DH and I wouldnt wear matching shirts.

If every member of your family agrees, then go for it. I wouldn't try to cajole anyone who was against the idea, though.

No one in my family would go for it--including me.
