MAT test experience

So, I just shelled out $90 to take the MAT. Does anyone here have experience with this test? It is for grad school admission in lieu of the GRE which I would never pass due to the math.

I ordered a book to study and saw a few practice questions online, of which I got most of them. I am reasonably good at analogies.

Any input would be appreciated. Need to pass this on the first go because I do not want to pay another $90!

I took the MATs a few years ago - I'm an English teacher, and LOVE analogies, so it was right up my alley! (My program allowed me to choose between the GREs and the MATs). Understanding (but no need to memorize!) the TYPES of analogies is important and running through all the practice tests you have time for! The test itself is incredibly straightforward - just like the practice tests!

I took the MAT, too, instead of the GRE. Mine was done via electronic administration at a local college's testing center. What really helped me was using a study guide to understand the nature of the exam, the relationships between things that I am not sure of. For example, classical music comes to mind.

I thought it was kind of fun.

I can only help and tell you I took it 10 yrs ago for grad school. Do not think that they do not have math on it. They had some math. I found that when I took it that I studied a prep book especially the vocab and it helped. I got 91%tile. It might have changed my now but basically it should be the same.

Make sure you understand the types of analogies...that was huge. I remember there were some words I didn't know, but if I could figure out the relationship, then I was able to get it.

This is an interesting study guide. It has lots of different strategies (I'm not sure I'd use all of them), but on Page 17 it has the Types of Analogies, which is VERY important.
