Does anyone here have a master bathroom with no bathtub, just a shower??

For the house that we are building, the master bathroom would have a very large tiled shower with double shower heads, (so 2 can shower at once  :teeth: ) which I love, but am wondering if I would miss having my own bathtub.

There would be other bathtubs in the house, just not in my bathroom.

Opinions please! :goodvibes

TIA

We're putting on a master bedroom/bath addition and not installing a tub, just a large shower. I have yet to find someone who makes good use of their tub in the master bath, no matter how fancy it is. Most say they've used it once or twice- not enough to make it worth the expense for us! I think I've taken one bath in the past ten years myself.

That said, we are getting a hot tub, so if I ever feel the need to soak I'll have that :sunny: .

I love to read in the tub so I have to have one. I may not get to do it as much as I'd like, but I love it when I can.
I also have an arthritic hip. It feels so much better after a soak in a warm tub. You never know when life's gonna throw you a curveball.

In our new house there's a tub in the masterbath and we splurged on the jacuzzi upgrade. We haven't moved in yet but I imagine it'll get a lot of use :cool1:  . Our current house has a roman soaking tub (no jets) in the masterbath along with a stall shower. The only one that uses the tub is DD. She has a tub in her bathroom but likes the bigger one. Honestly, I don't think you'll miss a tub.

I agree with most people having one in the Master Bath because it seems necessary. (Realtors always say to think of Re sale value) but we never use ours. Am I the only person that vaccuums their Garden tub when it looks dusty? :confused3

We just use the big over sized shower as well. :thumbsup2

My masterbath doesn't have a tub. Just a shower. It works out fine. And there's not as much to clean. We have two other bathtubs in the house so if I ever want to take a bath I can. But, I rarely take baths.

The bathroom off our master bedroom only has a shower. I'm not a big bath taker anyway so it's not a big deal to me--plus it's easier to clean. DD's bathroom has a jacuzzi tub so we use that when DH or I want to take a bath.

I use my jetted tub 1-2 times a week. I can't imagine not having a tub in my master bath. It isn't fancy either. It is a normal sized fiberglass tub/shower enclosure. Instead of having a large master bath, I opted to put a large utility closet in the hallway.I think our bathroom measures 6 ft by 10 ft.

When we built our house 6 years ago, we opted to take out the garden tub and make the shower larger. We haven't missed it at all. We do have a tub in the kids bathroom if we needed one. We had a huge garden tub in a previous house and we used it a few times when we first moved in, but after that it just became a big dust collector!

We had just a shower in the master bath of my condo. Can't say I missed it since I have't taken a bath since I was 10. :)

DH likes to soak in hot water to ease muscle pain sometimes and he'd just use the hall bath that had a tub for that.

Our current home doesn't have a master bath. Our upstairs bath has only a shower, and our down stairs bath has a tub but no shower. Again it's not a problem for us. We will be adding a shower downstairs, because we need to re-do the upstairs bathroom and we'll need a shower while the upstairs one is under construction. If it wasn't for that we'd leave the downstairs bath alone.

we sold our home a week ago and i left behind my wonderful master bathroom with a shower (separate) and a garden tub. the rental we are in has 3 bathrooms with only one having a tub (in the bathroom the kids will mostly share). i already miss my tub. i used to be able to unwind by making a HOT bath and listening to my tv, now i will spend much less time relaxing in the tub. i also liked (when the kids were younger) being able to put them in the master bath and supervise them from the comfort of the bedroom (vs. sitting on a camode).

i think re-sale is important to consider. for some reason several home buyers in our former development tore out their showers and garden tubs and put in large tub/shower combos (the type with the sliding glass doors)-this change has made those homes much less desirable when it came to re-sale. i think some buyers are like me and hate the clautrophobic feeling of a tub enclosed by glass doors or a shower curtain.

We ripped our master bathroom, with a large tub, apart last summer and had it totally redone.

Our master bathroom now has a toilet, nice raised sink, two towel bars, and a 8' x 3.5' shower with shower heads on opposite walls, with a small seat on one end, and no tub. The tub simply isn't needed, since we can sit in the shower if we wanted to.

We don't miss the tub at all, since we have 2 other tubs in the house we can use if we must.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

I'm really torn about what to do. I love to take baths to relax, but at the same time the large shower with shower heads on either end is AWESOME!

We had a large garden tub with jets in our old home that I NEVER used. I vaccumed the dust out of ours too! :rotfl:
BUT...

since we've been in this apartment, we have a smaller soaking tub/shower combination that I use the tub in a lot. :confused3 It's bigger than a standard bath tub, but smaller than our old garden tub.

I'm wondering if maybe we could put just a little bigger bathtub in one of the other bathrooms, and I'd be ok with that.

I know I'd have to talk to the builder, but wonder how hard/expensive it would be to just make our bathroom a little bigger?? Maybe put in a claw foot tub??

Oh, and as far as resale goes, I hope this house is it for us, but even if it's not, the trend here is moving away from the big garden tubs.
A lot of the homes we've looked at lately have big showers only, so maybe we'd be pretty standard then??

We moved from our townhouse a year ago and we had a steeping tub and a separate smaller shower. I loved, and now miss, my 6 ft steeping tub, no jets. It was heavenly. Now we have a much smaller masterbath with an oversized stall shower, not quite enough room for two, but more than a standard square shower stall. Whenever we redo our upstairs bathrooms, we will add an oversize tub/shower combo so I can take baths again!

Even if it doesn't matter to you, because of resale I would only consider doing it if you could put a bigger tub (maybe with jets) in a different bathroom.

We don't use our tub often, but it's only a soaking tub. I wish it had jets.

I'm a soak-in-the-tub person. Our condo in FL has only a slightly oversized shower in the master bath and a tub shower in the guest bath. I consider the guest bath to be "mine" and the master bath to be "DH's". I get really annoyed when we have guests and I can't use the tub.

Friends of ours bought a house with three bathrooms and had no tubs at all in it. I would never buy that house.

Our master bath has only a shower stall and I love it! The main bathroom in our house has a tub, so if we need to soak, we DO have a tub in the house.

I was never big on baths to begin with - DH and I are both shower people. Besides, I never have the free time to sit and soak in the tub!

I am a bath girl. Now it's been awhile since I've taken one though, b/c our schedules don't really allow for a nice bath. I am so happy that our master bath has a separate shower and a nice, large, deep, tub...

:lmao: I haven't thought about vacuuming my tub but I could. We hardly ever use ours so it does get dusty....no soap scum there
