So I've decided to get a massage. There is a chain I'd guess you call it, called Massage Envy. they always seem to pop up in the local "Best Of" winners.

So I have 2 questions. If you've been to any of these, did you like it?

And what kind of massage is good for a first timer? I had a massage once maybe 10 years ago at a spa. It was a Christmas gift from my mom. Haven't had 1 since.

They seem to have all the popular ones, swedish, deep tissue etc.

And if it helps I did wake up with charlie horse cramp in my left leg this morning. Haven't had 1 of those in a looong time.

So help me choose please:thumbsup2

I've been going to massage envy for a while and really like it! If it's your first massage in a while, you might want to request a swedish. But tell them your sore areas, if you're looking for relaxation, etc. They usually work with you before and during (asking if the pressure is ok). Have fun!

appointment request is in for tomorrow after work. Alternate request for Sunday. Hope it feels good. I've just been going crazy lately.

Honestly - went once and was not impressed. My usual therapist was sick and my shoulder/neck went spastic on me (right before vacation) so I booked an appointment at the local Massage Envy. The guy was "alright". I had them go ahead and put the "deep freeze" item on my shoulder/neck and he didn't have the forethought to even wipe it off before having me flip.

I'm sure there are good therapists at Massage Envy but I did not enjoy or like the experience at all. From the check-in to the check-out it felt a little to "processing widgets" than a more personalized, relaxing spa experience.

I've never been to a Massage Envy--I've been avoiding it because I've heard there is a high pressure sales pitch at the end to enroll in thier subscription program. The last thing I'd want after a relaxing massage is the stress of a high pressured sales pitch.

Wish you had posted earlier. I would have added a no sales pitch request to the appointment box. Well, what's done is done.

We'll see what happens.

Well, no massage for me.

Wanted my credit card over the phone. An absolute no-no for me. If they had had a secure place to submit it online, I would have done that but there was none.

Not trusting some girl who sounds like she's 12 with my number over the phone.

Too bad, best prices available. Guess i'll be saving my money then.

I've been a member at Massage Envy for about six months and I don't really have any complaints. The trick I found was to try different therapists until you find one that suits you. I either must have low expectations or a high amount of luck since I have been able to score a good therapist after a couple of visits.

I have been to three different Message Envy locations, all of which have taken my membership, and haven't had a bad experience in any.

I never got a heavy sales pitch either since I did my research online and knew what I wanted when I got there. I didn't have a problem signing up since the terms were pretty reasonable.

I only know the prices with regards to having a membership, since that is the only way I have dealt with ME.

The membership price is $39 a month, which entitles me to one free one hour massage each month. I usually go for the hour and half massages though, which is $15 more. If I get a second massage in any given month then it is $39 for an hour or $54 for an hour and a half.

If I don't get a massage during my paid month, then the credit rolls over to the following month. Apparently you can build up an unlimited number of credits as long as your membership is current. But so far this isn't a problem that I have had.

Some locations, usually the really busy ones, will require a credit card number on file to reserve the appointment. I have encountered this at one of the ME I went to in NJ. This is what the OP encountered in a previous post.

My membership is good at any ME location, which I have made great use of on various vacations. It is nice to schedule one right after a long drive or rough airplane ride.

The price is very good. I am in the Syracuse area and a message is about 60 for one hr. We don't have ME here but I hope it comes to central NY. A message a month at there rates will not break the bank. Thank You!
