Hello. I'm not sure if this is the best board for this question but thought DVC'rs might know the most. (And not just about massages!)

We are leaving Fri. for a two week stay primarily at SSR. (woopee!!!) My husband and myself and his parents agreed on our last stay that we should start our next one with a massage and relaxing day at the pool. Now we had planned on doing that at SSR. However, as it turns out, we will be at Animal Kingdom Lodge for the first two nights. We could still wait for SSR, but I was checking prices today and noticed that SSR is $30 more pp for a 50min massage. Anyone who might have experience at the Spa at SSR and/or AKL -is the difference worth it? I then noticed that SSR offers 10% off for AP'rs. That would bring it down by $11 for a $19 difference. Does anyone know if AKL will offer any discounts?

Any input on either or both places would be great! Thanks!

Krista

I don't know of any discounts at AKL.

The spa at SSR is run by an outside company, from what I understand. You might want to call ahead, as there are discounts for DVC members on special services that seem to change (not sure how often).

Haven't had a massage at AKL, but just used the spa at SSR last month and would definitely do it again. There was a 20% DVC discount on a few of the services, and I took advantage of that. I had the special massage that combined Swedish massage on the back and accupressure to the feet/hands, using a wonderfully fragrant oil. That was $100, with the discount, plus tip. It was great, but I would have been just as happy with the $80 Swedish massage, no fragrant oil.

The spa is very nice -- I was escorted to the women's locker room and provided with a robe. Then to the 'waiting area' where both men and women waited to be called for their treatment. There was water and tea there. Very nice music. The spa room was great --- first class table and didn't hear sounds from outside the door. Afterwards, I took advantage of the jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room in the women's locker room. There's use of the facilities for the day when a treatment is booked. That made the $100 seem like I was getting more for my money. Enjoy!
